Xiao Yunying didn't know how to tell Madam Luo the truth about her relationship with Luo Sheng, so she could only silently watch as Granny Chang and the others moved Luo Sheng's things in.
Madam Luo said, "I heard from Xin'er that you don't like others touching your things without permission, so I won't let anyone tidy them up. You can tidy them up yourself in a little while."
With Luo Sheng absent, Xiao Yunying could only agree for now: "Okay."
"Then you pack up, I'll head back now."
After seeing Madam Luo off, Xiao Yunying closed the door, turned around to look at Luo Sheng's belongings, and sighed.
Luo Xin raised her head and asked, "Mother, will you be sleeping with Father from now on?"
Xiao Yunying didn't rush to tidy up. She pulled Luo Xin to sit on the kang (a heated brick bed) and said, "Mother would rather sleep with Xin'er. Doesn't Xin'er want to sleep with Mother?"
Luo Xin climbed onto the kang (a heated brick bed): "Xin'er wants to sleep with her mother, but she wants her mother and father to sleep together even more, so that Xin'er can have younger brothers and sisters soon."
Xiao Yunying silently repeated "children's words are innocent" three times in her mind: "Who told you this?"
Luo Xin said, "This morning, Grandmother and Granny Chang were talking, and Xin'er overheard them."
Xiao Yunying playfully pinched her little nose: "You little rascal, why are you eavesdropping everywhere?"
Luo Xin touched her nose: "Xin'er didn't eavesdrop. You adults are all too serious when you talk. No one noticed when I passed by."
"Alright, then Mother misunderstood you."
Luo Xin asked again, "So when is Mother going to give me a younger brother or sister? I want a little sister first, okay?"
Xiao Yunying never dreamed that she would be pressured to have children by a little girl who was not even four years old. She said helplessly, "I won't have any younger brothers or sisters. Mother is nearsighted and can't have any."
Luo Xin didn't understand: "What is nearsightedness? Why can't I have children?"
Xiao Yunying was amused by Luo Xin's earnest question. This little girl didn't understand modern slang: "It means she has an eye disease and can't have children."
"Then Xin'er doesn't want younger brothers and sisters anymore. Xin'er wants her mother to be healthy."
Xiao Yunying put her arm around Luo Xin: "Good Xin'er, you got up early today, take off your coat and sleep for a while."
When Luo Sheng returned, Luo Xin was already asleep.
Xiao Yunying opened the door for him and said in a low voice, "Come in first."
Luo Sheng came in and looked at the sleeping Luo Xin, saying, "I'm sorry, I didn't know Mother would move my things over here directly. There are some things I didn't tell her, and she thought that we are now... mutually in love..."
Xiao Yunying didn't want to hear apologies or explanations; she only wanted a solution: "So what do we do now?"
We can't actually live together, can we?
It wouldn't be impossible to simply live together and fool Mrs. Luo, but she frequently goes in and out of the supermarket, so having Luo Sheng around is really inconvenient.
"Could I leave my things here temporarily?"
Xiao Yunying frowned: "You really want to stay here?!"
"As long as others think I live here, I can find another place to stay at night."
Xiao Yunying thought he meant that they could stay in other empty rooms that night, and reluctantly agreed: "Okay."
After all, if his mother knew that they were married but still living in separate rooms, she would probably come over and nag them.
Ever since her mother learned that she and Luo Sheng had consummated their marriage, she completely forgot what she had said before and genuinely treated Luo Sheng as her son-in-law, which made Xiao Yunying's lips twitch.
It's good to fool both sets of parents together like this; it saves a lot of trouble.
With the cohabitation issue resolved, the two found themselves in an awkward atmosphere once again.
Xiao Yunying rubbed her hands together: "You...sit for a while?"
Luo Sheng said, "No need. I'll go to the front hall and study the improved weapon drawings you made earlier."
"All right."
After Luo Sheng came out, he heard the door close behind him, so he stopped and turned around to look at the closed door.
I don't know what he was thinking, but he didn't leave for a long time.
Just as they had agreed, after dinner and washing up, Xiao Yunying would first coax Luo Xin to sleep.
They were both busy with their own things until they were sure the children and Madam Luo were asleep. Only then did Luo Sheng leave the room, and Xiao Yunying breathed a sigh of relief.
Fortunately, Luo Sheng remembered, otherwise she really wouldn't know how to ask Luo Sheng to leave without making things awkward.
After living like this for a few days, Xiao Yunying had begun to get used to this routine.
In early July, the weather in Donglin City began to get hot and dry.
Xiao Yunying washed a few clothes, and when Luo Sheng saw this, he offered to help wring them out and hang them to dry.
She had come to terms with what happened that night. They were both adults, and they would probably be spending a long time together. There was no need to make things awkward for each other because of an accident; it would make neither of them feel comfortable.
Besides, Luo Yong's help with housework has indeed made things much easier for me, so why should I refuse?
You get thicker-skinned with use.
After washing the last piece of clothing, Xiao Yunying handed it to Luo Sheng, poured out the water in the basin, and stretched.
Luo Li was squatting down beside them, playing with the two dogs, when she suddenly said, "Mom, please don't let Dad sleep outside, okay?"
Xiao Yunying thought she had misheard: "What did you say? Your father is sleeping outside?"
Luo Sheng, who was on the other side of the yard, turned to the side and continued to hang the clothes in his hands on the clothesline.
Luo Li stood up and said, "Didn't Mother tell Father to sleep outside?"
"No, don't talk nonsense. Where is your dad sleeping?"
Luo Li pointed to a big tree outside the door: "He sleeps there."
Xiao Yunying glanced at Luo Sheng's back and thought to herself, "What's wrong with this guy? He has so many empty rooms at home, why is he sleeping in a big tree?"
She asked, puzzled, "How did you know?"
