During her break, Xiao Yunying continued reading her novel, but out of the corner of her eye, she saw Luo Sheng looking at the items on the shelf with childlike curiosity.
Perhaps because of his previous instructions, he didn't go to look, but instead obediently leaned against the bed and moved his gaze around.
She said, "If you're really curious, you can go take a look, just don't touch the wiring."
Luo Sheng looked away: "Forget it, I won't break it again."
Xiao Yunying couldn't bear to see him so repressed and frustrated, so she put down her book and said, "Let's go, I'll go with you."
Luo Sheng quickly got out of bed and put on his shoes: "Okay, let's go together."
Xiao Yunying was amused by his quick change of expression and strolled with him slowly from the third floor to the first floor.
Luo Sheng had a lot of questions. He would curiously fiddle with everything he saw, and Xiao Yunying would explain the uses of these things to him.
Passing by the snack section, after getting her permission, Luo Sheng wanted to try everything and even gave her feedback.
Xiao Yunying looked at Luo Sheng picking out snacks and suddenly remembered that he was only a 21-year-old boy this year, which would be considered a college student in modern times.
It's just that he's usually too composed, which makes me always overlook his age.
Xiao Yunying didn't want to spoil his fun, so she let him browse the supermarket to his heart's content. As evening approached, Luo Sheng had browsed the entire supermarket before he realized he had forgotten his important business.
"We were so focused on looking at these things that we forgot to go out and find our way."
Xiao Yunying comforted him, "You're injured, and I walk slowly. We can't get very far by searching for a way, so why rush things?"
She went to the shelf and grabbed a high-powered outdoor flashlight to test its brightness.
Luo Sheng asked, "Is this the source of the light from the roof?"
“That’s right, this is how the light bulb is powered by electricity. Wait here for me, I’ll go out and tie the flashlight to the tree, so that if anyone comes looking for us, they can see the light from far away.”
“Let me go with you. There are many wild animals in the deep mountains and forests.”
Xiao Yunying took a roll of tape: "No need, I'll be back after I put the flashlight away."
She went outside and used tape to wrap the flashlight around a taller tree trunk. After making sure she had wrapped it securely enough, she quickly returned to the supermarket.
The next two days were spent like this: during the day, searching for the way out of the mountains along the east side, and at night, using outdoor flashlights as a signal to try and attract people.
On the fourth night, not long after Xiao Yunying tied on her flashlight, she heard the sound of something alive approaching.
She put down her novel and listened intently.
Luo Sheng asked, "What's wrong?"
"It sounds like something alive is approaching."
Luo Sheng tried listening and said, "I didn't hear anything."
Xiao Yunying wasn't sure either: "It's probably because this supermarket belongs to me."
Just as she was wondering what animal was making the noise outside, she suddenly heard someone speaking in a low voice.
"What kind of object is this that can make the surrounding area as bright as day?"
Xiao Yunying quickly told Luo Sheng, "I heard someone talking, but I don't know if they are friend or foe."
Luo Sheng couldn't hear the sounds outside, so he could only say, "Don't rush out, listen again."
Just then, another male voice rang out from outside: "You all step back, I'll go and take a look."
Xiao Yunying recognized the voice: "It's Wei Xun. Shall we go out?"
Luo Sheng glanced at his own clothes before saying, "Isn't it a bit reckless to just appear out of nowhere like this?"
Xiao Yunying thought for a moment: "How about I ask the supermarket to put us in the denser canopy of trees around here?"
"Can."
Just as she was about to grab Luo Sheng's arm, Luo Sheng took her hand first and held it tightly.
Then, somewhat awkwardly, he explained, "You can't stand steadily on a tree like you can on flat ground. You don't know martial arts, so it's safer for me to hold you."
Xiao Yunying knew what he was thinking, but she didn't dislike the feeling, so she didn't try to break free.
She just felt... that she might actually like this man a little.
But she just couldn't get over that mental hurdle.
Now is not the time to think about these things. Xiao Yunying said goodbye and in the blink of an eye appeared on the canopy of a large tree not far from the flashlight.
The moment Xiao Yunying came out, she first steadied herself by holding onto a tree trunk, and said to Luo Sheng, "Alright, you can call them now."
Before Luo Sheng could speak, his subordinates, one by one, turned to look at them with growing vigilance.
Wei Xun, who was in the lead, drew his long sword: "Who's there?"
Luo Sheng spoke up: "It's me."
"master?"
Luo Sheng didn't say anything more, grabbed Xiao Yunying's waist, and jumped down from the tree.
The sudden freefall startled Xiao Yunying. Her body reacted before her brain could process it, and she tightly hugged Luo Sheng, burying her head in his arms.
Luo Sheng glanced down at the girl in his arms, a slight smile playing on his lips, but it vanished as he landed.
Xiao Yunying felt her feet touch the ground, looked up and punched his chest: "Could you have told me before you jumped down? You scared me to death."
Luo Sheng deliberately gasped, and Xiao Yunying immediately asked anxiously, "What's wrong? Did I hit your wound?"
Luo Yong grasped her hand as she tried to untie her belt: "I'm fine."
Xiao Yunying then realized that the man didn't have any wounds on his chest at all; he was just faking it. She withdrew her hand and said, "You're really too idle. Hurry up and have your subordinates lead us out of the mountain. There are so many mosquitoes here."
Wei Xun watched curiously as she untied the flashlight from the tree trunk and whispered, "Master, is this the magical artifact that Miss Xiao brought out?"
