Xiao Yunying instructed anxiously, "Don't break it. If there are no problems, you must bring it back to me in perfect condition."
Luo Sheng took the brocade box: "You seem to really like that girl."
Xiao Yunying admitted from the bottom of her heart, "I do like her. She's very cute, and it makes me feel that having a younger sister who can act cute is pretty good."
The girl was lively and cheerful. Although she was a bit shameless, she was very tactful and never seemed abrupt or annoying. I liked her.
Luo Sheng put the box in his arms: "Don't worry, I won't break it."
Xiao Yunying then remembered that he had just returned home: "Didn't you go to the city with your father to buy materials today? Have you finished buying everything?"
"Most of them have been bought, and the rest have been ordered with the shopkeeper. There won't be any problems."
Have you had lunch yet?
"I ate. Dad took me to eat noodles."
Xiao Yunying thought to herself that her father was as frugal as ever; she had already told them to eat at Huiweilou.
Then it suddenly dawned on him that Luo Sheng called his father "father" so naturally that he didn't feel there was anything wrong with it at all.
She turned around and packed her things: "Isn't just eating noodles too simple for you? Thank you for your hard work. I'll make you more food tonight."
"It's not hard work to do things for you."
Xiao Yunying was never used to his affectionate demeanor, and she didn't know how this seemingly aloof man could always say such things, leaving her unsure of how to respond each time.
"You've had a long day, go wash up and go back to your room to rest. I'll tidy up and call you when it's time for dinner."
"I'm not tired."
Xiao Yunying turned around and gently pushed him: "If you're not tired, go and rest. Don't disturb me while I'm working."
Luo Sheng noticed that she seemed a little shy, so he didn't linger there any longer: "Okay, then I'll go out first."
"Let's go, let's go!"
Xiao Yunying urged him to leave quickly, then turned back to compose herself before continuing to pack her things.
——————
Two days later, most of the necessary materials were ready, and the people hired to build the house began construction.
At this point, there was no need to keep an eye on them all day. Xiao Yunying was known for her good treatment of the workers, with high wages, meat at every meal, and now even vegetables that couldn't be found anywhere else. Everyone worked with great enthusiasm, afraid of being outdone by others.
That morning, she was peeling sweet potatoes in the yard, planning to fry some sweet potato balls for her family as snacks.
Luo Sheng, who was helping out, seemed to be showing off. She peeled the sweet potatoes very quickly. Before she could finish peeling one, Luo Sheng had already peeled the other five.
Zheng Yunwan, who had just finished washing the dishes and wanted to help, saw his actions, glared at him resentfully, and turned to do other things.
Luo Sheng held out his hand: "Give it to me, I can peel it faster than you."
Xiao Yunying slowly peeled the fruit: "I don't need you, I can do it myself. I was just thinking of chatting with Yunwan while doing some non-urgent work. Now that you've peeled it all for me, I have nothing to do."
Luo Yong awkwardly put down the peeler. He had meant well but had ended up doing something wrong.
Suddenly, a whistling sound came from above. Xiao Yunying looked up curiously and saw a huge eagle gliding rapidly toward her.
The old woman, Chang, who was not far away, clutched her chest in fright: "Young Madam, get out of the way!"
Xiao Yunying wanted to dodge, but the eagle descended too quickly, and before she could make a move, its shadow had already fallen over her head.
Just as the eagle was about to pounce on his face, Luo Sheng quickly stood up and stood in front of her.
The eagle landed directly on his shoulder, flapped its wings twice, and then folded them back up.
Zheng Yunwan quickly came over and asked, "Sister Yunying, are you alright?"
Xiao Yunying put down the sweet potato in her hand, feigning composure: "It's nothing."
Her heart was practically pounding out of her chest.
Granny Chang's legs went weak, and she leaned against the wall for support: "You scared this old servant to death."
Xiao Yunying stood up and said, "Meng Xia, come out and help Granny Chang."
Meng Xia responded from the kitchen, and Madam Luo also came out upon hearing the sound. Seeing such a large eagle perched on her son's shoulder, she called out to Xiao Yunying, "Yunying, come here quickly. That eagle's eyesight isn't very good. Don't let it hurt you."
These words inexplicably tickled Xiao Yunying's funny bone, making her burst out laughing.
She remembered that Luo Sheng's eyesight was also impaired due to poisoning, similar to her own nearsightedness, both of them had difficulty seeing clearly.
"I'm fine, Mrs. Luo, don't worry."
However, when he caught a glimpse out of the corner of his eye that the fabric on Luo Sheng's shoulder had been torn by the eagle's sharp claws, he still silently took two steps back.
Madam Luo warned sternly, "Sheng'er, keep a close eye on your eagle. If it hurts Yunying, I won't forgive you."
"Don't worry, Mother, with me here, it won't hurt anyone."
Madam Luo glared at her son before returning to the reception room. Xiao Yunying handed the sweet potatoes to Zheng Yunwan: "Go and steam the sweet potatoes first, and I'll fry the meatballs later."
Once everyone else was around, Xiao Yunying asked, "Is this the eagle you raised?"
Luo Yong moved it onto the stone table, touched the hole in his shoulder, and explained, "It was raised by the Luo family army to deliver messages. Its right eye was injured in a fight with other eagles, which affected its vision. It will deviate slightly from the direction each time it descends, but it has no problem transmitting information."
Xiao Yunying started laughing again.
She was reminded of an owl in a movie, which always had a little problem landing, except that the owl was just plain stupid, while this owl had bad eyesight.
