"My brother?"
Xiao Yunying muttered something under her breath.
It's certain that she only has two biological brothers. As for the brothers in the village's uncles' and aunts' families, she has met them all. If they want to find her, they can just come to her house. Why bother making a scene at the shop?
Wait a minute, the shopkeeper is right. I've met all my father's brothers, but I haven't met my mother's brothers yet.
She thought about it carefully, but it seemed that since the original owner could remember, there had been no news of Mu Lianrong's family.
"Meng Chun, I'm going back to my parents' house to ask what's going on. If I don't come back by mealtime, I've gone into town. You don't need to wait for me to eat."
"Understood, young mistress."
Xiao Yunying hurriedly returned to her parents' home; she needed to quickly confirm whether her mother's family had any brothers.
She knew Zheng Yunwan's personality; on the surface, she appeared gentle and weak, but in reality, she possessed a decisiveness and stubbornness no less than her own.
If that person really is her mother's brother, but Zheng Yunwan mistook him for a troublemaker, the relationship between the two sides is likely to sour.
As soon as she entered her mother's house, Xiao Yunying called out, "Mother, are you home?"
Xiao Yuntao came out of the house and said, "Yunying, you're here?"
"Third sister, is Mother home?"
"Mom is taking care of the vegetable seedlings she's growing for you in the empty room in the backyard."
"Third sister, I have something to ask Mother, so I'll have to talk to you later."
"Then you should go quickly."
Xiao Yunying went to the backyard: "Mother, which room are you in?"
Mu Lianrong came out when she heard the voice: "Here I am, my daughter. What do you need, mother?"
"I wanted to ask my mother if I have any brothers or sisters, and if I have any older brothers at my maternal grandmother's house."
Mu Lianrong's expression changed slightly: "Why are you asking this?"
Xiao Yunying explained, "My shop assistant just told me that there have been people coming to the shop looking for me these past two days, claiming to be my brother. I thought they probably weren't my uncles or cousins, otherwise we'd all be from the same village, they could have just come to my house."
Mu Lianrong frowned: "They came looking for you?"
"Mom, don't worry, we don't know who it is yet. I don't think you've ever talked much about Grandma's side of the family, so I'm not very familiar with the relatives there and came to ask..."
Mu Lianrong said angrily, "Who knows, it might really be true. These bastards probably heard about your shop from someone and are going over there to cause trouble and demand money. Come on, let's go take a look."
Xiao Yunying stopped her: "Wait a minute, Mom, does that mean I really have several older brothers on Grandma's side? What are their names? Can you tell me?"
"There's nothing to say. There's no one good over there. They've infuriated your grandparents. I've cut ties with them long ago. Whoever it is, just have them thrown out, or report them to the authorities to be arrested. Don't give me any face."
Xiao Yunying then understood why her mother never mentioned her family.
Now that she knew her mother's attitude towards that side, Xiao Yunying felt more at ease.
“Then I know what to do, Mother. Don’t worry, Yunwan is over it. She will handle this matter. I’m just afraid that the person is really my maternal grandmother’s brother, and that there will be some unnecessary misunderstandings that could damage the relationship between the two families.”
"There's no room for sentimentality anymore. Just deal with it as it comes. Treat them as troublemakers and report them to the authorities for arrest."
"Okay, I understand. Mother, don't be too angry. Maybe it's just a scoundrel making excuses to ask for money."
Mu Lianrong waved her hand and said, "Don't ask me about anything over there in the future. Just do what needs to be done."
"Alright, then I'll be going now, Mom."
"Go."
After learning of Mu Lianrong's attitude, Xiao Yunying was no longer in a hurry to enter the city.
Regardless of whether that person was her maternal grandparents' brother or not, her mother had already severed ties with her, and the two families had no connection whatsoever, so there was nothing to worry about.
She leisurely returned home, preparing to cook something to treat Zheng Yunwan.
Zheng Yunwan didn't return until the afternoon. As soon as she entered the door, Xiao Yunying sensed something was wrong.
"Yun Wan, what's wrong with you? Did you fight with him?"
There were several nail scratches on her face. Although her hair looked fairly neat, there were still a few thin strands hanging behind her ears, which was obviously due to carelessness in her haste.
Zheng Yunwan touched her cheek: "It was pulled a few times."
Xiao Yunying asked suspiciously, "Was that man pulling at you?"
Unless they are relatives or utterly shameless scoundrels, very few men would get into a physical altercation with a woman they don't know.
If this were taken to the authorities, the person would be charged with hooliganism and would be punished with thirty strokes of the cane.
Furthermore, the shop's employees are not idle; two of them even know some martial arts, so it's impossible for them to let the troublemaking men hurt Zheng Yunwan.
Unless they were unsure whether to intervene at first, it was precisely because they hesitated that they gave the other party the opportunity to hurt Zheng Yunwan.
Zheng Yunwan poured herself a glass of water: "The man's mother also went. His mother and I tugged at each other for a bit, and in the chaos, she grabbed me. I dodged quickly, and she didn't grab me properly, so it's nothing serious."
Xiao Yunying pulled her closer and examined her face carefully. After confirming that it was just a minor cut on the skin and no serious injury, she asked, "Did you find out who it was and how it was treated?"
"He shouldn't be related to Sister Yunying at all. He's just talking nonsense. He's just causing trouble and trying to extort money. I had them driven away immediately, and they shouldn't cause trouble again."
Zheng Yunwan finished her water in a few gulps, and Xiao Yunying poured her another cup: "I asked my mother, and she said that my maternal grandparents have passed away, apparently because they were angered by my mother's brothers and sisters."
