Xiao Yunying originally thought that Ge Changjian would not come for a few days, but unexpectedly, he came to the Xiao family near noon the next day, whether he was feeling guilty or for some other reason.
The two sisters were preparing ingredients for lunch in the kitchen when they learned that Ge Changjian had arrived, and their expressions both turned grim.
Xiao Yunying immediately adjusted her expression: "Third sister, don't show your disgust for him so obviously. Just bear with it for now and coax him to see a doctor first."
After finishing chopping the vegetables, Xiao Yuntao said, "I know, but little sister, I'm sorry to have troubled you."
"Don't feel wronged. Come on, let's go out and take a look."
After leaving the kitchen, Xiao Yunying leaned against the door, too lazy to go forward, let alone call out to anyone.
Tsk tsk, this time it's not bad. I brought two bags of pastries that looked pretty good, a big piece of pork and a small jar of wine. That's a lot more than what I brought on the second day of the Lunar New Year.
Xiao Yunsong's third son was too young to go to school, so he came over with Xiao Yunbai's youngest daughter and Luo Xin, and asked, "Auntie, what are we having for lunch?"
When Xiao Yunying saw her little niece opening her arms to her, she bent down and picked her up: "Auntie made sweet and sour pork for you, and also made scallion pancakes."
My little nephew slurped his saliva: "It must taste delicious."
Xiao Yunying reached out and flicked her little nephew's nose: "You little glutton."
Luo Xin was a little jealous; her mother had hugged her younger sister but not her, and she was a bit unhappy.
Xiao Yunying glanced at the sullen little girl out of the corner of her eye: "Xin'er, Mother is going to make you your favorite sweet and sour poached eggs, okay?"
The little girl's expression brightened visibly, and she replied crisply, "Okay."
A figure walked over and asked, "Yun Ying, why didn't you go to work today?"
Xiao Yunying's smile slowly faded. She couldn't afford to provoke him now, so she said calmly, "It's rare for Third Sister to come back for a few days, so I asked the master for leave to come back and keep her company."
Xiao Yunbo asked in confusion, "What kind of work? Who did your little sister ask for leave from?"
Xiao Yunying calmly replied, "He knows that I work as a maid in the city."
The members of the Xiao family were not stupid. Hearing her say this, they immediately understood that she must have been seen when she went to Huiweilou or talked with the young master of the Chen family in the city.
Xiao Yuntao was nervous. She knew she couldn't let the Ge family know about her younger sister's investment in Huiweilou. Otherwise, not only would she not be able to get a divorce, but Ge Changjian would definitely continue to harass her younger sister.
She changed the subject, saying, "You must be tired. Come in and sit for a while. Dinner will be ready soon."
Ge Changjian handed the things in his hand to Xiao Yunying, as if showing off something, and said, "I brought pastries and meat, you can make them for lunch."
Xiao Yunying couldn't help but glance at him: "Can't you see I'm holding a child in my arms?"
Ge Changjian saw it, and he thought Xiao Yunying would put down the child to take the things, but he didn't expect her to say it directly.
There was a moment of awkwardness on his face, but then he came to his senses.
It's okay if she has a bad temper now; once she's married, even the worst temper can be corrected.
Xiao Yuntao took the things and said, "You go inside first, little sister, come and help me cook."
Xiao Yunying responded and put her little niece down before going into the kitchen.
My little niece doesn't understand the intricacies of adult relationships, but children are very sensitive to changes in emotions.
She sensed that her aunt's smile vanished the moment she saw the man, and she strained to look at him with her head held high.
She wanted Xiangxiang's aunt to hold her a little longer; it's all that person's fault.
His mother pouted behind his back; she didn't like him either.
After thinking for a moment, seeing that the adults were talking and hadn't noticed him, he took his short legs and walked towards Ge Changjian, stomping on his foot hard.
She was just a little baby; it took a lot of force for her, but for an adult it would only feel a little, not much pain.
After his niece stepped on him, she looked up at him. Ge Changjian felt his foot being stepped on, looked down at her, and for a moment both of them were a little confused, not knowing what to say.
Finally, it was my little niece who spoke first, uttering two words in her childish voice.
"Bad guy."
Luo Xin quickly stepped forward and stood in front of her, saying, "Your little sister is still young, she didn't mean it."
This guy's eyes are terrifying; is he going to hit my sister?
Mrs. Wang witnessed the entire process of her youngest daughter's actions from behind, knowing that the child had done it on purpose. Only after her daughter had finished did she come from behind, pick her up, and say:
"The child is young and doesn't understand. She thinks you're blocking her way, that's why she's acting like this. Don't take it personally with a child."
After saying that, regardless of Ge Changjian's response, she picked up her little daughter, took Luo Xin's hand, and left.
Once inside her room, Wang kissed her little daughter's soft cheek: "My daughter did a great job."
Ge Changjian was displeased but could only keep it to himself. He couldn't actually do anything to the child, so he waved his hand dismissively and said it was fine.
At this moment, Xiao Shanhai returned from building a new house. When he saw Ge Changjian there, he paused, then pretended that nothing was wrong and invited him to come in and sit down.
Xiao Yunying was preparing to cook in the kitchen when Xiao Yuntao snatched the apron from her: "Let me do it. He doesn't deserve to eat your cooking."
Xiao Yunying didn't argue and obediently helped out.
Because of Ge Changjian's arrival, Xiao Yuntao made several dishes of cabbage, radish, and potatoes, with only a few pieces of meat in them, which looked bland and watery.
Xiao Yunying could only explain to Luo Xin and her nephew that the dishes she had promised them could only be made in the evening.
The children could tell it was because of their third uncle, who was disliked by the family, so they didn't make a fuss and sensibly agreed.
This wasn't a formal invitation to the son-in-law; it was just a family meal together, with men and women not sitting at separate tables.
