Chapter 478 Like mother, like daughter

The Minister's wife was brought back to her senses by Zuo Lanzhi's call: "You are the peasant girl that Luo Sheng recently married?"

Xiao Yunying looked directly at her and replied, "Madam should have already investigated my identity."

The implication is that you already know who I am, so stop pretending and asking useless questions and get to the point.

Her attitude was neither humble nor arrogant, neither flustered nor obsequious. The Minister's wife felt that she had underestimated this woman.

"How could you, a woman, be so cruel, almost killing my daughter?"

"Me, vicious?" Xiao Yunying laughed at the shamelessness of the mother and daughter: "Does Madam Shangshu not know what your good daughter has done? If she hadn't provoked me first, why would I have wanted to kill her?"

What about compromising and making peace? What about enduring for a while to avoid trouble? To be accused of being malicious by this kind of person?! I can't tolerate even a little bit of it!

The Minister's wife did not see the guilty look in Zuo Lanzhi's eyes as she stood beside her; she only wanted to get an explanation for her daughter.

"Lanzhi only admires General Luo, yet you want to kill her. What is that if not viciousness?"

As an elder, I advise you: jealousy in a woman is not a good thing. If you can guarantee that you can live peacefully with Lanzhi in the future, I can let you continue to stay by Luo Sheng's side. Lanzhi will have to make some sacrifices, and Luo Sheng will welcome her into the family with the rites due to a secondary wife.

Xiao Yunying was shocked: "Luo Sheng agreed?"

The Minister's wife sat there with a confident air: "I haven't told him directly yet, but his mother and I have been friends for many years, and Lanzhi and he have known each other since childhood. They can be considered childhood sweethearts, so he won't refuse."

Xiao Yunying was even more shocked: "Why don't you ask Luo Sheng first?"

No wonder Zuo Lanzhi is so eccentric; it turns out her mother taught her to be.

Like mother, like daughter.

He's really shameless. Luo Sheng once said that he went to the army when he was very young, or he was studying at school. Before he went to the battlefield, he only met Zuo Lanzhi twice when the Minister's wife brought her to visit his home. He greeted her and then went to do his own thing, without saying more than a few words to her.

The same thing happened when they returned from the battlefield; they were not familiar with each other at all, let alone childhood sweethearts.

She even arranged for Luo Sheng to marry Zuo Lanzhi with the respect due to a concubine. It sounds simple, but anyone who didn't know better would think she was Luo Sheng's mother.

With the support of the Minister's wife, Zuo Lanzhi felt much more confident: "This is none of your business. We're not here to discuss this with you, just to inform you."

Xiao Yunying said nonchalantly, "Sure, as long as Luo Sheng agrees, I wouldn't mind if he divorced me and then married you."

The Minister's wife clearly did not understand her daughter's position in Luo Sheng's heart, and thought she was just saying it in anger: "You and Luo Sheng are married by the Emperor himself, so you cannot easily divorce him. If you can guarantee that you will behave yourself in the future, the General's Mansion can still tolerate you."

Xiao Yunying lifted Luo Xin's little bottom up: "That won't be necessary. I don't plan to go to the capital. You can leave the General's Mansion to your daughter."

The Minister's wife didn't understand: "You don't want to go to the capital; do you intend to stay in that small village and be a peasant girl for the rest of your life?"

"Yes, I plan to live here for the rest of my life."

The Minister's wife felt she couldn't communicate with the woman in front of her and gradually lost patience: "Wishful thinking. Luo Sheng is the Protector General of the Nation, and the Luo family is in the capital. He can't stay here with you forever."

Xiao Yunying said seriously, "I didn't intend to keep him here forever. It's his freedom to settle down wherever he wants. I can't control him, and he can't control me either."

"Absurd! A woman should obey her husband after marriage. Didn't your mother teach you this principle?" The Minister's wife said in an unfriendly tone, "After all, you are a country bumpkin who can't be brought to the table. It's not surprising that your upbringing is like this."

Xiao Yunying's face darkened slightly: "My mother only taught me to know propriety, righteousness, integrity, and shame, and not to covet married men. Perhaps my mother wasn't very educated, but she still understood some principles of being a good person."

You can criticize her, but you can't stand it when it comes to your own family.

The Minister's wife sensed the sarcasm in her words and threw the teacup beside her at her.

"How dare you, a peasant girl, speak to me like that!"

The teacup shattered into pieces at Xiao Yunying's feet, with many shards of porcelain landing on her feet.

Xiao Yunying's face darkened completely, and she shook off the broken porcelain shards from her feet: "If the Minister's wife is only telling me this, I can only answer that as long as Luo Sheng agrees, I have no objection. You can go and talk to him."

As she spoke, she deliberately looked Zuo Lanzhi up and down: "I just don't know what impression your daughter's actions have left on Luo Sheng, and whether he can accept such a femme fatale."

Everyone thought she was just an ordinary peasant girl and that she was easy to bully.

Why should she have to put up with this? Why can't she fight back?

She couldn't bear it any longer today. The Minister's wife wanted Zuo Lanzhi to marry Luo Sheng, so she certainly wouldn't dare to do anything to Luo Xin openly. As for making some harmless verbal retaliations, she figured they couldn't do anything about it.

The Minister's wife frowned, puzzled: "What do you mean..."

Fearing that Xiao Yunying would reveal those things, Zuo Lanzhi walked over to her and said, "Xiao Yunying, don't take advantage of the fact that the children like you and act recklessly. Brother Luo Sheng is only being nice to you because of the children."

As she spoke, she pointed at Xiao Yunying's face and walked closer. Luo Xin still remembered being abused by Zuo Lanzhi, and was so frightened that she buried her face in Xiao Yunying's chest and began to tremble uncontrollably.

Xiao Yunying sensed that the little person she was holding was scared, so she backed away and pushed away Zuo Lanzhi's outstretched arm.

“Speak properly, why are you pointing at me like you're poking my face?”
