Chapter 6: Showing off your cooking skills

Jiang Ning woke up at dawn. Hearing the noise, he saw that the people at home also got up one after another and began to prepare for a day of hard work.

There was already a fragrant smell coming from the kitchen.

Jiang Ning also quickly got up and prepared to wash up. Although her family was not so poor that they could not afford to eat, they certainly did not have any extra money to buy toothpaste, so there was no hope of brushing her teeth properly. So she added a little salt to the water cup and rinsed her mouth, and then washed her face with a towel soaked in hot water in the basin.

Not to mention that it’s still a bit chilly in the mornings in autumn, it’s quite comfortable to wash your face with hot water.

After Jiang Ning finished cleaning up, it was time for dinner at home.

Because farm work is done all day long and requires a lot of physical strength, people in rural areas usually start eating in the morning. After all, only with strength can you work better.

Jiang Ning glanced at the food on the table. It was a large bowl of cornmeal, but it wasn't quite rice. The white rice grains stood out against the yellow cornmeal. There were only a few sparse grains of rice, completely negligible. The food consisted of the mushrooms and wild vegetables he and his second brother had picked up in the mountains yesterday. He couldn't bear to eat the wild rabbit he had found, so he left it hanging in the kitchen.

But the whole family ate with gusto. Even Jiang Ning, who used to only eat an egg and a piece of toast in the morning, now ate a large bowl of rice. It's worth mentioning that the dishes in this era are all natural and pollution-free green vegetables, and they taste quite good.

After breakfast, the family went to work in the fields. It was September, the golden autumn, and the rice in the fields was bent by the grains.

But Jiang Ning was left at home. The first reason was that there was a stranger in the house and the two little kids could not be taken care of. The second reason was that after Jiang Ning went to the back mountain yesterday, Aunt Hua came to the house and made a scene. In order to avoid Aunt Hua embarrassing Jiang Ning today, the family voted unanimously to let Jiang Ning stay at home.

Considering that the mysterious man had not yet woken up, Jiang Ning had no choice but to agree. She also said that her aunt didn't need to come back early to prepare lunch at noon, as she would take care of it all.

Jiang Ning was bored and walked around the house. It was no exaggeration to say that the whole house was bare.

Can this earn you a million? Jiang Ning felt his vision go dark.

"System, I can't meet these conditions!"

"I'm confident in you. You can do it. Human potential is limitless. Come on, it's no problem!"

It was almost noon and the family was about to go home for lunch, but the mysterious man still didn't seem to be waking up, so Jiang Ning had to go cook first.

She went to the kitchen and took a look at the rice jar at home.

Well, very good. There was not much rice left in the rice jar, so Jiang Ning had to use corn powder and a little rice to continue making corn rice. Finally, he put a few potatoes in the rice while stewing it.

Fortunately, she had cooked such firewood meals when she was a child, so it was not difficult for her to make a fire and cook.

After the rice was cooked, Jiang Ning planned to cook the wild rabbit that the system rewarded him yesterday. Anyway, there were still 4 wild rabbits and a wild boar as rewards that had not been claimed. This family probably had not eaten meat for a long time, so they decided to have some meat today.

So Jiang Ning skillfully cut the rabbit into two. The rabbit was fat enough anyway, so he could eat half today and the other half tomorrow.

So let’s have stir-fried rabbit cubes for lunch today and show off the skills of a modern chef.

After everything was ready, Jiang Ning started to do it.

She used a spatula to scoop a large spoonful of lard from the enamel bowl. Jiang Ning felt that this spoonful of lard was enough for her family to eat for a week.

After the oil heated up, Jiang Ning added the diced rabbit to the wok and stir-fried until cooked through. He then placed the dish on a plate and added garlic, ginger slices, a small amount of Sichuan peppercorns, and other spices. Once they were fragrant, he added the diced rabbit and stir-fried it. He then added some corn wine from Jiang Lao's father to remove the fishy smell. Finally, he added a bowl of water to cover the diced rabbit, then added the chili peppers and simmered the dish over high heat until the sauce thickened. Finally, he placed the dish on a plate. He then stir-fried another vegetable and prepared to eat.

When the Jiang family came back, they smelled a strong aroma of meat as soon as they entered the door. Everyone couldn't help but drool because it was so fragrant.

Eating meat is not an easy thing in this day and age. Usually, you can only taste the meat during the Chinese New Year.

Father Jiang spoke first: "Ning girl, what delicious food did you make? It smells so good."

"Yes, yes, it smells so good that I can't help drooling." The second brother on the side echoed.

Everyone couldn't help but burst into laughter after hearing this.

Soon the family sat around the table and started eating.

"Ning girl, your cooking skills are pretty good, even better than your aunt's. This rabbit cube is delicious."

For them, dishes like this are even better than Chinese New Year, because even during Chinese New Year, you may not be able to eat such dishes. For them, this meal is very satisfying.

Today, for the first time ever, the whole family ate very well, and some even felt a little bloated.

After dinner, Jiang Xiaomei took the initiative to wash the dishes.

After a short rest at home, the family started working in the fields together again. Only by working in the fields every day and earning work points could they get more food at the end of the year.

Jiang Ning put the unwashed clothes he had taken off yesterday into a basket and prepared to go to the river to wash them.

The clothes should have been washed in the morning, but because Jiang Ning was busy getting familiar with the house all morning and was afraid that the mysterious man would wake up at any time and she would not be able to find him, the clothes were delayed and not washed.

Before leaving, she repeatedly told the two little rascals to keep an eye on the man and call her back when he woke up. The two little rascals saluted Jiang Ning like the soldiers they had seen returning home to visit their families, saying, "Auntie, I promise to complete the mission."
