Jiang Wanwan and the others left. She went into the house and placed the chestnuts on the table. "Mom, I made some sugar-roasted chestnuts and brought some over for you to try."
Mother Lu leaned over and looked out the window. After hearing this, she didn't react as usual and just said calmly, "Just leave it there."
Jiang Wanwan knew that splitting up the family was not what Lu's mother wanted, especially since the Lu family was such a large family, splitting up was rare.
Mother Lu has lived for most of her life, and her original ideas are deeply rooted. In her mind, dividing the family means that she has not managed the family well.
Jiang Wanwan didn't say anything at this moment. She put down the chestnut and turned to leave, but was stopped by Lu's mother.
"Third daughter-in-law, do you think I'm partial?"
Jiang Wanwan stood there, smiling slightly, "I haven't been married to Lu Xiao for long, and we're alone together, so I don't know much about family matters. And I think when Mom asked me this question, she probably already knew the answer."
Mother Lu sighed. "I know what you're thinking. Before the third son got married, he earned more work points and didn't care about these things. He put everything in the old house. San'er is a kind and righteous child. The eldest son's wife always says that I'm partial to the third son. In fact, the one I feel most sorry for is the third son. If it weren't for me, he wouldn't have to move out and live alone. The second son's family is honest. I thought that the second son and his wife are both adults, so they can make do. Chunsheng and Xiaoshu are still young. In a few years, when they are older and more capable, they will earn more work points. The second son will have children of similar age, and then I can support them in return. Wouldn't it be the same inside and outside? I even thought that the third son would be the same. Now he supports the family. When he gets married and has children, the other family members will support him. It will be the same sooner or later. Why are they all so unsatisfied? They all feel they are at a disadvantage. Why can't they wait..."
Mother Lu kept on chattering, as if she was talking to Jiang Wanwan, but also as if she was talking to herself alone.
"Mom, you've overlooked human nature. You've forgotten the saying that greed is insatiable. You think that no one is wronged by following your wishes, but you're afraid that some people will take the current kindness for granted, and when they have to repay you, it's more painful than digging out their heart. Everyone has different ideas."
It was not known whether Mother Lu had heard it or not, as she was still chattering away. However, Jiang Wanwan did not say anything else and just walked out of the house.
"Third sister-in-law," Wang Sanni called her, and secretly glanced in the direction of the main room. Seeing that there was no movement there, she secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Jiang Wanwan entered their room, and Wang Sanni lowered her voice and asked her, "Did Mom say anything to you?"
Even though Mother Lu had already said that the family should be divided, she still felt uneasy.
Over the years, my mother-in-law has often threatened my eldest sister-in-law with the issue of dividing the family property, but she has never gotten a share.
She was also afraid that her third sister-in-law and her husband would change their minds. After all, they did not live together in the old house, and even received the things distributed by the team separately. It made no difference whether they divided the family or not. If her mother-in-law gave her some advice, her third sister-in-law might not necessarily go along with her mother-in-law for the sake of face.
"Mom didn't say anything, just nagging a few words casually," Jiang Wanwan said.
"Then do you think your family can get a share?" Wang Sanni looked at her eagerly.
Jiang Wanwan smiled slightly, "Whether we can get a share depends on my second brother and second sister-in-law."
Wang Sanni was relieved now. She grabbed Jiang Wanwan's hand and said, "Thank you, sister-in-law."
In the big house, Lu Hui and Zhang Xiu Lan were also discussing this matter. Lu Hui was extremely reluctant to divide the family property.
"It's all your fault. You should have bowed to your mother, but you had to make her angry. Now that the family is divided, you can be the boss. Are you satisfied?"
Zhang Xiulan, of course, refused to admit her fault. "Who am I doing this for? Mother told me to take out the money I had before and share it with the second and third children. Don't you know if we have any money? If I don't fight for it, what can I give them? Don't forget, you knew about selling food on the black market. Now that something's wrong, it's all my fault."
Lu Hui lowered his head and sighed, "Why don't you go and have a good talk with the second son's wife. The third son's family doesn't have the same rations as us, and the grain we sell only gets a share for the second son's family. If you can coax her into doing so, will she still be able to ask you for money or grain? Then I'll talk to mother, and maybe we won't have to divide this family."
It would have been fine if Wang Sanni wasn't mentioned, but as soon as she was mentioned, Zhang Xiu Lan became furious.
"Can't you see? It's the second son's wife who wants to divide the family. Over the years, when has mother ever said anything about dividing the family and not just let it go?"
It was precisely because Wang Sanni stood up and said those words this time that her mother-in-law was forced to divide the family.
"I've long seen that the second brother's wife is not a good person. As the saying goes, a dog that bites doesn't bark. She looks so honest, but what's the result? She's just a snob. The same goes for the second brother. Ever since the third brother married an educated youth, you see that couple has been trying to curry favor with the third brother all day long. Who would take you, the eldest brother, seriously anymore?"
"No, I'm going to talk to mom. This family can't be divided."
The more Lu Hui thought about it, the angrier he became. He stopped eating and went to Lu's mother's room.
As soon as she entered the house, she called out to her mother in a wronged tone, "I don't want to split up the family, I just want to be with me. Mother, we are living so well, why do we have to split up the family? Talk to the second and third children and tell them that I won't let Xiulan touch the food in the public garden anymore. Let's continue to live the same way as before."
Mother Lu looked at her eldest son. He was almost 40 years old, and his son was almost as tall as his shoulders, but he was still like this when he spoke.
When the old lady was alive, he would always act coquettishly towards her, and she would fall for it.
After the old lady left, she started to act like this in front of her. She never thought it was shameful to act like a spoiled child in front of her mother.
Looking at the other two sons, not to mention the third son, even the second son no longer acts like a spoiled child in front of her.
