Chapter 1: Traveling Through Time

After seeing off the last patient, it was not too late.

However, Zhang Xudong closed the two doors of the clinic early and quit.

This clinic and the entire courtyard were left by the grandfather who adopted me.

Not only do you not have to pay rent, but you also receive rent from the street-facing house in the backyard every year.

So Zhang Xudong's life should be easy, comfortable and beautiful.

But Zhang Xudong's mood has always been bad.

Zhang Xudong has been naughty since he was a child. He climbed up the roof to remove tiles, climbed trees to walk his bird, and did all kinds of mischievous things.

If it wasn't for the fact that it was the 100th day after his grandfather's death, and Zhang Xudong still had some thoughts about his grandfather, he would have gone to relax without knowing where to go.

My grandfather is from Beijing. Because his ancestors have been practicing traditional Chinese medicine for generations, he is quite famous in the circle and was hired as a professor at the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Life was originally good, but forty years ago, my grandfather came here with my grandmother to avoid revenge from a powerful enemy.

Although their enemies were gone later, they didn't want to go back to Beidu, so they built a yard and settled down in the town, opening a clinic to make a living.

Zhang Xudong heard from his grandfather that he was abandoned at the door of the clinic one morning.

At that time, he was only two months old and had a high fever. His little face was red and he was crying like a cat.

The old couple felt sorry for him and took him to the clinic. They took care of him day and night for three or four days before he recovered. From then on, they adopted him.

Although he was adopted, the old couple treated him as their own grandson.

He was taught ancient medicine and martial arts since he was young, and all his skills were passed down to him.

Zhang Xudong grew up day by day, but the two old people also grew older day by day.

Grandma passed away the year Zhang Xudong was admitted to university. Looking at Zhang Xudong's university admission letter, grandma closed her eyes with peace of mind.

On the eve of his university graduation, Zhang Xudong's childhood sweetheart was in a car accident while returning from an internship. She died crying his name.

This year, grandpa passed away quietly in his sleep, and Zhang Xudong became an orphan again.

So he was always in a bad mood. He felt that God was against him and wanted him to live alone.

Zhang Xudong went to the backyard and lay on a lounge chair under the grape trellis, drinking beer and complaining about the injustice of heaven.

After drinking four or five bottles of beer, he fell asleep, growled, "God, if you have the guts, chop me up," and gradually fell asleep.

Zhang Xudong, who was asleep, didn't know that dark clouds were pressing down from the sky. The whole yard became dead silent, as if the pause button had been pressed.

A flash of lightning suddenly appeared in the sky and struck the grape trellis directly.

Then, Zhang Xudong disappeared from under the grape trellis. The beer bottle was still there, but the man was gone.

"You heartless little bastard, you dare to hit your mother, aren't you afraid of being struck by lightning?

Stop pretending to be dead, get up and come with me to the factory, this work quota must be mine."

Zhang Xudong was awakened by a burst of quarreling and cursing.

"Why is it so noisy? How come someone comes in when the clinic isn't even open yet?" He wanted to open his eyes, but his eyelids felt heavy and he couldn't open them.

The back of my head also hurt a lot, as if someone had hit me with a stick.

Then, a strange memory appeared in his mind.

I think I'm in 1960, also named Zhang Xudong. I'm 16 years old and just started the third year of junior high school.

My father, Zhang Youlin, was an only child. He was raised by his widowed mother. After serving in the army, he became a truck driver at the county machinery factory.

Being a driver was a prestigious profession in that era. However, he was tricked by the village girl Li Guizhi and married her without knowing why.

The original owner also had a younger sister who was eight years younger than her.

Life was originally okay, although Li Guizhi was lazy and greedy and didn't take much care of her two children.

But their father had a high income and was hardworking, and with their grandmother's help, the brother and sister grew up relatively safely.

Just three months ago, disaster struck. Zhang Youlin encountered robbers on his way to work. He and his colleague died, and one was seriously injured.

Because they fought to the death and saved the money, one became a martyr and the other became an advanced worker. The martyr was Zhang Youlin.

Of course, the factory could not treat the hero unfairly, so it gave the Zhang family an 800 yuan pension and also gave Zhang Xudong a work target.

But who would have thought that Li Guizhi would remarry less than a month after Zhang Youlin's death, abandoning her son and daughter to remarry.

You can remarry, but she took away all the money and tickets of the Zhang family.

He didn't even take a penny of the 800 yuan pension away, leaving no way for the old man and two children to survive.

The old lady was so angry that she fell ill and has been lying in bed for two months without any recovery.

Now that Zhang Youlin is gone, the house allocated by the factory has to be returned.

The mother and her two children returned to their hometown and lived a hard life relying on the little stored food and some vegetables from their private plots.

Li Guizhi was not done yet, and she started to think about finding a job again. She wanted to change her husband's temporary job into a regular one.

She went to the factory herself, but they ignored her, saying that no one could take the job without Zhang Xudong's involvement.

So she went to Zhang's house to make trouble again.

She wants to work, but Grandma Zhang and Zhang Xudong definitely can't give her money.

During the quarrel, Li Guizhi grabbed a rolling pin and beat Zhang Xudong. Grandma Zhang hurried to protect her grandson, but was pushed by Li Guizhi and fell.

When Zhang Xudong went to help his grandmother, Li Guizhi hit him on the back of the head with a rolling pin, knocking him unconscious.

After sorting out the memories in his mind, Zhang Xudong was so angry that his liver ached. What kind of mother was this? She was not even as good as a neighbor.

"Brother, wake up! That bad woman is going to hit grandma! Get up quickly!"
