Chapter 10: Entering the Mountains

The night passed in silence. Zhang Xudong woke up early. He checked his watch and saw it wasn't even five yet, so he logged into his space. He hadn't tended to the vegetable patch in his space for two or three days.

The vegetable patch in the space is only a fraction larger than the private plot outside. The vegetables here are much better than those in the private plot.

The cucumbers were tender and juicy, their greens glistening. The tomatoes were round and huddled together, some green, some white, and some red, all juicy and vibrant. The long beans, peppers, and Shanghai greens were all lush and green, a delight to behold.

I picked a dozen cucumbers, a few red tomatoes, and a handful of beans. If I didn't pick them now, they would get old. Since I couldn't eat them, I put them in an empty basket at the supermarket.

After picking the vegetables, I watered them all with well water. This time, I wanted to see how much effect this spatial well water could have on the crops.

After watering the vegetables, he came out of the space and ran to his private plot without even bothering to wash his face.

I finally breathed a sigh of relief after taking a look at the field. While all the vegetables had perked up and were showing signs of life, they weren't as overbearing as if they were already laden with fruit and ripe, falling off their stems overnight.

That's all, it's better not to be too much better than others. It's not the lack of wealth that's worrying, but the inequality of it. Being low-key is the best way to go.

I took out two of the smallest cucumbers from the space and carried them home. When I got home, my grandmother was braiding my little sister's hair.

"Grandma, look, I picked two cucumbers from the vegetable garden."

"You've grown so big? Wasn't it only the size of a finger yesterday?"

"These two are closer to the inside and are blocked by leaves. I probably didn't see them yesterday." He's going to get drunk by telling so many lies just for a bite of food.

After the little girl had her braids done, I started teaching her to practice standing meditation. Practicing boxing without practicing standing meditation is like wandering around aimlessly. If you want to practice martial arts, you have to start with standing meditation.

At first, I didn't dare let her stand for too long; ten minutes or so was enough. I briefly taught her how to move her legs and feet after standing still, and that was the end of the day's training. You have to gradually increase the intensity later; you can't become fat all at once.

"Grandma, I'm going up the mountain to collect firewood." After dinner, I said goodbye to my grandma, put on my backpack and took the axe and prepared to set off.

"Don't go too far, and don't go into the mountains. There are wild boars there. It's too dangerous!" Grandma shouted in the kitchen.

"Got it," he replied and left the house. He thought to himself: I went into the mountains to find wild boars. Without wild boars, where would I get meat to eat?

After jogging all the way and crossing a few bare mountains, some green spots appeared in front of us.

After walking for another half an hour, the forest gradually became denser, with more and more trees and bushes. As I walked, I collected dead branches and trees into the space. I couldn't return empty-handed after passing through a treasure mountain. After all, firewood was indispensable.

If you see any herbs, you must not miss them. You must pick them and prepare them so that you can use them sooner or later.

Along the way, we saw several mountain red and grape vines. There were many fruits on them, but they were not ripe yet and were very sour.

I was picking a herb when I heard a rustling sound in front of me. I looked up and saw a gray rabbit running straight towards me. It was as fast as a cannonball.

When it was about four or five meters away from him, the rabbit made a sharp turn, and with a bang, it hit a tree head-on and lay there motionless.

What kind of a trick is this? Without the rabbit's mindset, I really don't understand it. It seems that waiting for the rabbit to appear is not a myth.

Pick up the rabbit and throw it into the space. No matter whether it is alive or dead, it will end up in the pot.

I've gained something, even though it was for nothing, but it's a good start. Being able to gain something for nothing is a skill.

After walking a few steps forward, I heard a few "cuckoo" sounds nearby, which should be the pheasants calling.

I picked up a few longan-sized stones on the ground and quietly moved over. When I was about five or six meters away, I tried to use the space to collect them, but it didn't work.

He moved closer by more than one meter, and seeing the pheasant was about to fly away with a "cluck", he quickly threw a stone at it, smashing its head.

Now that I've found you, you still want to run away? Dream on. I put the pheasant and a few pheasant eggs into the space, and found some mushrooms and wood ear mushrooms nearby.

I walked slowly, searching for fruits and collecting anything edible. I also noted the locations of the jujube, persimmon, and chestnut trees I found, and would come back to pick more in two months.

Maybe it's because no one has been in for a long time, the forest is really rich. There are mushrooms and black fungus everywhere, and enoki mushrooms and straw mushrooms can be seen everywhere.

Just when I was happy about my rich harvest, I suddenly found myself surrounded. I looked around and saw that there were five wolves surrounding me. That was quite a lot. They thought highly of me.

He put the hatchet and backpack into the space, took out the Tang sword that he had specially asked someone to make in his previous life, held the handle of the sword with both hands, slowly stepped back, and stood bent over next to a big tree.

Several wolves were slowly closing the circle, inching closer. Wolves are the most patient and intelligent animals, and the best hunters at collaborative hunting.

When they were a few steps away, the three wolves in front stopped coming closer, and the two wolves behind also came to a distance of three steps away, one on the left and one on the right.

The wolves had their fur standing on end, their front legs slightly stretched forward, and they crouched low, looking for opportunities.

Without waiting for the wolf to move, he took a sideways step and stabbed the wolf on his right in the neck. Before the remaining wolves could react, he drew his knife and leaned against a tree, then stood facing the four wolves.

As soon as he stood up, two wolves pounced on him from both sides. Two diagonal slashes from left and right directly cut off half of the wolves' necks. He was also sprayed with wolf blood, the stench was nauseating.
