Zhang Xudong told the captain and the militia company commander about his discovery. The captain knew that this was a serious matter and must be reported immediately.
"Da Zhuang, quietly gather the militiamen at the brigade headquarters, distribute guns and bullets, and wait for orders here. Don't tell them what it is for now, keep it confidential." The brigade leader ordered.
"Okay, Uncle San, I'll go now." Zhang Dazhuang received the order from the captain and immediately went out to gather people.
"Dongzi, can you lend some of your family's food to the team? It's necessary for the militia to fill their stomachs. Even if they are going to fight, they need to have a full stomach to have strength. What's more, we are going to fight!" The captain looked helpless and said to Zhang Xudong in a hopeful tone.
"Third Uncle, don't even mention borrowing. This incident started because of me, so this meal is mine. Two steamed buns per person, okay?"
"Okay, your kid is a good kid. This is what the brigade and Third Uncle owe you. There will be an explanation later. Go home now to prepare steamed buns for twenty people. I will take a mule cart to the commune. Fortunately, we haven't used a knife on it today." Third Uncle made arrangements.
"Uncle Xingsan, I'll get ready right away."
Zhang Xudong and the team leader went their separate ways. Zhang Xudong returned home to find his grandmother excitedly talking about all the things she had bought that day. His younger sister sat beside him, rummaging through things while listening to his grandmother's talk.
Zhang Xudong didn't bother to greet the two and went straight into the kitchen. He called out to his grandmother as he took out five pounds of white flour, fifteen pounds of sorghum flour, and ten pounds of corn flour. It wasn't that Zhang Xudong was reluctant to use more white flour, but he was afraid it would make the woman greedy.
When his grandmother heard the shouting and walked into the kitchen, Zhang Xudong told her what had happened. He couldn't hide this from his grandmother, so he might as well tell her sooner rather than later. However, he didn't mention the fact that he had seen the murderer of his father.
After hearing this, grandma sighed helplessly and said nothing more. She washed her hands and helped steam the steamed buns.
The grandparents were busy steaming steamed buns. The team leader urged Wang Changgen to quickly harness the mule cart and head to the commune. Arriving at the commune, the team leader found the president's office and barged in without even knocking. Before the president could say anything, Team Leader Zhang rushed through the story.
After finishing his report, Captain Zhang heaved a sigh of relief. Without even looking at the president who was stunned by his report, he picked up the president's teacup, sat down and slowly drank the water.
The president shook his dizzy head, nodded to Captain Zhang, and started making phone calls without saying anything. After calling the county to report the incident, he called the armed forces department and asked the militia to gather and stand by. After that, he said to Captain Zhang:
"If this is true, this young man in your team has done a great service."
"It's true. Don't underestimate her age, but she's a skilled martial artist, a skilled doctor, and a smart brain. If he didn't know how many spies would arrive tomorrow, these three or five ugly girls wouldn't be enough for him to handle all by himself."
"Is it really as good as you say?"
"I'm lying to you. How can you provide food? You know the family of seven who were sent here yesterday? The old woman couldn't move when she was sent here yesterday, right? That's because Dongzi poked her with a finger.
Those three brothers are strong, right? They were beaten by Dongzi alone and cried for their parents, but there was no wound on their bodies. The captain was a little excited, took a sip of water and continued to praise Zhang Xudong:
"Did you see that stubborn mule in the yard? It bit a child's hand yesterday, the right hand of the youngest son of the livestock handler. The animal was blocking the child and no one dared to approach. Dongzi came and grabbed the bridle with one hand and pressed the neck with the other, and knocked the mule down in one go."
The team leader took a sip of water and continued, "You don't know, at that time, the child's hand was almost bitten off, and the bleeding would not stop. Dongzi gave him three injections, and the bleeding stopped, and the child no longer felt pain. Does your commune doctor have such ability?"
He took another sip of water and said, "I didn't just hear about it. I saw it with my own eyes. I saw Dongzi reattach the child's thumb. I saw Dongzi sew the hand back together after it was about to be broken in two. Does the doctor in your commune have the ability to do this?"
He took a sip of water and continued, "Do you know what medicine Dongzi prescribed? You can't guess. Dongzi just asked the child to drink water boiled with mugwort twice a day. In two days, the child did not have a fever. It didn't cost a penny. Look at the medicine prescribed by the doctor in your commune. It costs a lot of money, but how many times does it work?
I asked him to be a village doctor, but what did he say? He didn't have a license, so he refused! Look, those without a license are capable, while those with a license are incompetent. What's going on?
"Captain Zhang, what do you mean? Are you here to ask for his certificate?"
"You're not that good-looking, but you're dreaming about beauty. He just passed the entrance exam and got a county hukou. He'll get a job in the machinery factory sooner or later. Why would he care about a certificate? He's capable, so he can make a living anywhere. He can slaughter a 400-pound wild boar just like that. What do you think he cares about you?"
Captain Zhang took a sip of water and continued to talk nonsense: "I am just using my status to put pressure on him. Otherwise, he really wouldn't even take your commune seriously, let alone our brigade."
"Then what do you mean by saying so much?"
"What do you mean? I'm asking you to find a way to keep him here. If you can keep him here, I'll give him the captaincy right now. No one in the village would be dissatisfied."
"Captain Zhang," can we get down to business first? The spy business can't be delayed."
"I have gathered all the militiamen. All we need is your leader's orders and commands. What else do I have to do?" This sounded fine, but the president felt a little uncomfortable.
"Knock knock", at this moment there was a knock on the door.
"Come in," the president said
