Chapter 77 I Won’t Let You Work in vain
Old Mrs. Shang knew that Yangmei's family was living a difficult life, so when Shang Ruoting left, she packed a few large steamed cakes in a small basket and asked her to take them to Yangmei and her brother.
Shang Ruoting had already planned to secretly take some food for them on the way, but she didn't expect that Old Lady Shang would be so kind.
She carried the basket and went straight to Yangmei's house.
On the way, Shang Ruoting took advantage of the fact that no one was around and took two cabbages and a small bag of cornmeal from the space to temporarily alleviate the food crisis in Yangmei's family.
When I arrived outside Yangmei's yard, I saw Yang Xiu crying in the yard: "Xiu Xiu is hungry..."
Yang Tao held a teacup and coaxed her, "Xiu Xiu, be good. Drink more water, and you won't be hungry soon."
Shang Ruoting saw this and hurried in, handing the basket to Yang Tao: "Tao'er, I brought some steamed cakes. Give some to Xiuxiu first."
Yang Tao looked at Shang Ruoting gratefully before accepting the basket. "Thank you, Sister Ruoting. My family is completely out of food. Luckily, Brother Erniu brought some cornmeal yesterday. I ate some porridge this morning, but Xiuxiu is still hungry."
As she spoke, she broke off a piece of steamed cake and put it in Yang Xiu's hand.
Shang Ruoting looked at Yang Xiu who was wolfing down her food and reminded her, "Xiu Xiu, eat slowly. Don't eat too fast when you're hungry."
Perhaps Yang Xiu understood what she said and his movements slowed down a lot.
Looking at the young children in this family, Shang Ruoting was really worried about Yangmei.
"Tao'er, where's your elder sister?"
Yang Tao pointed in the direction of the backyard: "My eldest sister is planting a vegetable garden in the backyard!"
Shang Ruoting put down the things she brought and went straight to the backyard.
Yang Mei was seen sowing seeds with Yang Liu and Yang Xu. Yang Xu frowned and said to Yang Mei, "Sister, I hope these vegetables can grow soon. This way, Xiu Xiu won't have to cry out for hunger all day."
Yangmei wiped the sweat from her forehead and forced a smile: "Well, if our vegetables grow well, we won't have to starve anymore."
"Yangmei." Shang Ruoting interrupted the brother and sister.
Yangmei raised her head and saw Shang Ruoting, and hurried over.
Shang Ruoting knew that Yangmei was busy at the moment and didn't want to delay her work, so she directly explained her purpose: "Yangmei, you know I've taken on the job of running three chicken coops in the brigade, right?"
Yangmei nodded and motioned for her to continue.
"I'm going to the capital with Tan Chen in a couple of days. As you know, my grandma is injured. Besides, there's a lot of work to do in the three chicken coops, and she can't handle it all by herself. I thought, since the team has given you a two-week vacation, I wanted to ask if you could go over and help out for a few days."
"Don't worry, I won't let you work in vain. I'll give you all my work points from those days."
Yang Mei answered readily: "It's no problem for me to help, but I don't want the work points."
"How can that be? Your family is having a hard time right now, so you have to take the work points. Otherwise, I'll find someone else."
Yang Mei was a little anxious when she heard Shang Ruoting say this: "Okay, okay, I'll go help you and I'll take the work points. But, I'm not very good at raising chickens. If the egg production is not good, you can't blame me."
"No, you just need to clean the chicken coop every day and deliver the eggs to the warehouse. I guess my grandma will help you too. It's not difficult."
Shang Ruoting was not too worried about this. After all, she had been feeding the chickens spiritual spring water for several days, and the chickens' body functions had undergone essential changes. Even if they did not drink the spiritual spring water for a few days, it would not have much impact.
Yang Mei felt relieved when she heard Shang Ruoting say this: "Okay, I'm not afraid of hard work. If it doesn't work out, Yang Tao can help."
Shang Ruoting was very satisfied with Yang Mei's attitude: "Tan Chen and I haven't decided on a specific time yet, it will probably be one or two days. I'll let you know when it's decided."
Yang Mei nodded: "Well, it's settled."
Shang Ruoting had achieved her purpose of coming here, and she didn't want to delay Yangmei's work, so the two exchanged a few words and left.
She went directly to the chicken coop to collect the eggs and sent them to the production team. In this way, except for feeding the chickens in the afternoon, she had the whole day free.
This was the most relaxing day she had felt since she came here.
Since there is nothing to do, I might as well design my future new house and draw a blueprint of the greenhouse.
She remembered that there were books in Tan Chen’s box, and wondered if there was paper and pen?
Thinking about things in her mind, Shang Ruoting returned to Old Lady Shang's house.
After Tan Chen's eyesight recovered, he was reluctant to be idle for a moment. He was currently cultivating the vegetable garden in the backyard that was half-cultivated by Old Lady Shang.
Seeing Shang Ruoting coming back, Tan Chen asked, "Did Yangmei agree?"
Shang Ruoting nodded: "Yes, I agree."
Then she directly explained the purpose of her visit: "Do you have a pen and paper? I happen to have nothing to do today, and I want to draw a structural diagram of the house and greenhouse."
Tan Chen raised his eyebrows, looking a little surprised: "You can draw?"
Shang Ruoting smiled awkwardly: "I want to try to draw what's in my mind, but I don't know if it will work!"
