Chapter 89 Asking questions knowingly
To verify this hypothesis, Jiang Yutang had no choice but to stay for another seven days to see when the next refresh would occur.
Thinking of this, her anxiety eased slightly. She turned around and rummaged through the bundles on the cart to prepare dinner for her family.
She took out a bag of oatmeal and a few packets of dried meat from the bag, and just as she was about to reach into another bag for glucose, a piece of chocolate wrapped in tin foil fell to the ground with a "thud".
She bent down and picked up the limp chocolate; it had melted a little because of the heat.
Looking at the half-eaten chocolate, she couldn't help but laugh, recalling how Jiang Huaiyu had secretly eaten the chocolate this morning, even licking the foil packaging clean.
That greedy yet arrogant look still makes her laugh when she thinks about it now.
In the middle of the night, Jiang Yutang was fast asleep when a sharp pain suddenly shot through her lower abdomen, one after another. The pain was so intense that she had no choice but to force herself to sit up.
She frowned deeply and pressed her hand against her lower abdomen, feeling a sensation that was both strange and familiar...
She lifted the thick towel to check, when she felt a warm current in her lower body. It took her a while to realize what was happening.
I am having my period.
She is in good health nowadays and has never suffered from menstrual cramps, but she has heard people around her mention the problem.
Despite the waves of pain, she fumbled for the sanitary napkins she had prepared in her bag and quietly got up to walk towards the woods.
When she returned, the pain was even worse. She practically shuffled back to the cart, curled up in a ball, and her forehead was covered in a fine layer of cold sweat. The menstrual cramps were much harder to endure than she had imagined.
The next morning, she greeted her family weakly with dark circles under her eyes.
She hadn't slept well all night, and the persistent abdominal pain left her pale, listless, and barely able to speak.
"Tang'er, what's wrong with you?"
Madam Yun immediately noticed something was wrong with her and reached out to touch her forehead: "You're not sick, why do you look so pale?"
Jiang Yutang forced a smile, her voice weak: "Mother, I'm fine, it's just... I got my period."
Yun was stunned, her face changed drastically, and her tone was full of anxiety: "Why did you have to come at this time! Quick, go back to the cart and lie down to rest, you can't move around anymore!"
She turned around and called out, "Huaiyu! Come here quickly and help your sister lie down on the cart!"
Upon hearing this, Jiang Huaiyu immediately put down the bamboo mat she was holding and ran over. Seeing Jiang Yutang's sickly appearance, she asked worriedly, "Little sister, where do you feel unwell? I'll carry you over!"
Jiang Yutang quickly waved her hand, somewhat flattered: "No need, no need, I'm just feeling a little unwell, but not so bad that I can't walk. I'll be fine in a bit."
Madam Yun looked at her with sorrow, her eyes full of heartache: "My child, why are you still being so stubborn at a time like this? In the past, whenever this happened, you would be in so much pain that you would be bedridden and need to rest for three whole days before you could get out of bed. How dare you try to tough it out this time?"
Jiang Yutang was stunned and thought to herself: This is too exaggerated!
Could it be that the original owner was faking illness to avoid needlework or chores? Although she did something similar when she was in school, she was eventually tricked into going back by her grandfather using the excuse of buying a cake.
"Mom, I'm really fine." She tried to move her body a little. Although she was still uncomfortable, she felt much better than in the middle of the night.
"It might not be that serious this time. I can walk slowly, it'll be fine."
Her family gathered around and urged her to rest. She couldn't refuse their good intentions and could only nod in agreement.
"Okay, okay, I won't push myself. I'll rest on the cart later, alright?"
Yun breathed a sigh of relief and then instructed, "I'll get you a bowl of hot porridge. Lie down and don't move. If you need anything, just call your brothers."
Jiang Yutang nodded and, with Mu's help, slowly walked to the cart and lay down.
Is it finally her turn to "slack off"?
Just thinking about the original owner's constitution of "being in pain for three days straight" made her smile bitterly: This ancient body really needs to be properly cared for.
Jiang Yutang lay on the cart for a short while, and the pain in her lower abdomen became more and more intense until she almost lost the strength to speak.
She gritted her teeth and endured for a while, but couldn't hold on any longer, and could only call out to Jiang Songzhi, who was not far away, "Big brother..."
Jiang Songzhi rushed over and, seeing her pained expression, felt a pang of heartache: "Why is it hurting so badly?"
Jiang Yutang's face was contorted with pain, and her voice was weak: "Big brother, could you... go to the Cheng family and get me one of the painkillers we gave them before?"
"Alright, I'll go right away!"
Watching Jiang Songzhi's retreating figure, Jiang Yutang felt a mix of amusement and exasperation.
She never expected that the painkillers she had specially given to Cheng Lanzhou would eventually lead to her having to borrow them from someone else because of menstrual cramps.
"Miss Cheng," Jiang Songzhi said politely, "could I borrow one of the painkillers my little sister gave you before?"
Cheng Dai'er was taken aback upon hearing this, and asked in surprise, "Who's sick?"
Jiang Songzhi said softly, his tone tinged with urgency, "It's my younger sister. She's really unwell and can't hold on any longer, so I came to your house."
Cheng Dai'er then realized what was happening, and quickly turned around to rummage through her bundle, taking out all the remaining ibuprofen and handing it to him.
"Lanzhou's wound doesn't hurt anymore, so you don't need these medicines. You can take them all back."
"Thank you." Jiang Songzhi took the medicine, thanked him quickly, and turned to run back.
All of this was observed by Cheng Lanzhou, who was standing in an open space not far away.
He ignored it and continued practicing his skills.
With each punch and kick, his movements were swift and decisive, exuding a unique and powerful aura that quickly attracted a crowd of onlookers, who occasionally let out quiet exclamations of admiration.
Cheng Lanzhou was already used to being watched like this, and remained focused on immersing herself in her own rhythm.
But the three escorts standing nearby were thrilled and rubbed their hands together as they came closer.
"Oh, General Cheng, your kung fu is amazing!"
The pockmarked escort rubbed his hands excitedly and stepped forward, shouting, "Could you please teach us? We only know a little bit of rudimentary martial arts, which is no match for bandits. If we can learn some real skills from you, we'll be better able to protect ourselves!"
The other two guards quickly chimed in, "Yes, yes, General Cheng, please teach us!"
Cheng Lanzhou paused, his brows furrowing in a look of helplessness: "I am no longer a general."
He originally just wanted to regain his strength through training and also get back the muscles he had lost, but he didn't expect it to cause such trouble.
He glanced at the escorts who had gathered around him, then at the onlookers, and said indifferently, "I don't have time to teach."
The pockmarked escort was unwilling to give up and wanted to continue persuading him, but he was stopped by a cold look from him.
The aura emanating from his eyes was so powerful that the guards immediately dared not speak and could only awkwardly retreat to the side.
But they still couldn't bear to leave, and quietly followed behind, imitating each other in a very convincing way.
Cheng Lanzhou ignored them and resumed practicing his punches, but he felt inexplicably uneasy.
He subconsciously glanced in the direction of the Jiang family again. The people on the cart were huddled up, covered with thick towels, and looked extremely vulnerable.
With a restless mind, he lost all interest in practicing. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and walked away.
Returning to Cheng Daier's side, he pretended to rummage through something and casually asked about it.
"Elder sister, where did the medicine you took a few days ago go?"
