Chapter 152: A Blessing or a Curse?
The curtain was lifted, and the person disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Watching her flustered retreating figure, Cheng Daier belatedly turned to Cheng Lanzhou, her eyes wide with surprise: "You two just now..."
Cheng Lanzhou covered her mouth, turned her face to the side, and pretended to cough, but the tips of her ears turned red. She didn't reply.
Lin bent down, picked up the cotton wadding that had fallen to the ground, patted off the dust, and a knowing smile played on her lips.
"In my opinion, shouldn't our two families set up another tent?"
Cheng Lanzhou turned her face away, unable to find any words to refute, and could only let Lin Shi and Cheng Dai'er tease her.
On the other side, Jiang Yutang, who had fled back to her own tent, covered her face and squatted under the curtain as soon as she entered, her ears turning red all the way down to her neck.
She slowly raised her hand to her neck and shoulders, and the place where her fingertips touched seemed to still have the lingering heat of Cheng Lanzhou's breath, and her heart began to beat faster uncontrollably again.
"How could I be so stupid..." she muttered to herself, wishing she could disappear into a crack in the ground.
The next morning, just as dawn was breaking, Jiang Yutang lifted the tent flap and saw Cheng Lanzhou standing outside. His tall figure was accentuated by his blue casual clothes, and he had obviously been waiting for a long time.
Their eyes met unexpectedly, and they both froze on the spot.
Cheng Lanzhou was the first to react, clearing her throat to break the silence: "Are you going to the clinic? I'll take you."
Jiang Yutang nodded slightly.
She nestled quietly against Cheng Lanzhou's back, feeling his steady heartbeat, and after a long while, she mustered the courage to speak: "I really didn't know anything about yesterday's medicine..."
"Yes, it's alright," Cheng Lanzhou responded softly, her voice carrying a hint of amusement. "I know you didn't mean it."
Upon arriving at the clinic entrance, Cheng Lanzhou carefully put her down and said, "I have official business to attend to, so I'll have to go now."
Jiang Yutang watched him leave, and only after his figure disappeared around the corner did she lean on her cane and rush into the clinic.
Doctor Xu was sitting at the table grinding medicine when he saw her hurried appearance and immediately smiled knowingly: "You've arrived?"
After stammering for a long time, Jiang Yutang finally managed to say, "Dr. Xu, what did you add to the second bowl of medicine you gave me yesterday?"
Seeing her shy demeanor, Dr. Xu assumed that their relationship had made a breakthrough, and with a relieved expression, he waved his hand.
"Hey, what else could it be but some mild tonics and aphrodisiacs? You two just made up, and your relationship needed to heat up a bit more, so I just added fuel to the fire."
With a loud "boom," Jiang Yutang's face turned completely red. She was so embarrassed that she almost dug a hole in the clinic floor with her toes, and helplessly held her forehead.
"Dr. Xu, you're being too..."
She really didn't know what to say. She thought to herself that Dr. Xu himself was all alone, so how could he be more insightful than anyone else when it came to giving advice to others?
Doctor Xu smiled nonchalantly and asked, "Do you still want me to prepare some herbal medicine and send it over today? I'll prescribe a milder one for you."
"No need, no need!" Jiang Yutang quickly waved her hand, shaking her head like a rattle drum. "I won't need it anymore!"
Cheng Lanzhou was a man of impeccable character, and had not had any relationship with anyone for many years. It seems that after holding back for so many years, yesterday's bowl of herbal soup almost depleted his health bar.
After that day, the matter of expanding agriculture was fraught with difficulties for another five days before it was finally settled.
Late at night, Jiang Songzhi put down his book and sighed, "It's faster than I imagined. Fortunately, I can finish it before Zhu gives birth, which puts my mind at ease."
Jiang Jiuzhe shook his head, his tone grave: "This is just the beginning. We'll be busy with land reclamation, seed sowing, and manpower allocation."
Jiang Yutang rested her chin on her hand and looked at Jiang Jiuzhe, saying, "If nothing unexpected happens, it will be the middle of next month when Second Sister-in-law is due to give birth. Second Brother, try not to go too far. In case of any emergencies, you have to come back immediately."
Jiang Jiuzhe nodded heavily: "I know. I have already reported to the Northern Garrison Commander. The rest will be handled by the deputy. I will stay at the camp to keep watch."
Tomorrow is the day Cheng Lanzhou returns to the military camp, and Jiang Yutang specially went to the city gate to see him off.
Cheng Lanzhou gently stroked her hair, his eyes filled with affection: "If anything happens, come to the military camp to find me."
He paused, then added softly, "...It's okay, I can come."
Jiang Yutang was amused by his serious expression: "I know, I will."
As Cheng Lanzhou was about to turn away, he suddenly remembered something and turned back to add, "I have already reported your idea of opening a small shop to the higher-ups, and the approval has been granted. I expect the official document will be delivered to you soon."
"Really?" Jiang Yutang's eyes lit up instantly. She squeezed his hand tightly and thanked him repeatedly.
"That's wonderful! Thank you, Lan Zhou!"
Cheng Lanzhou ruffled her hair, and his figure quickly disappeared into the dust outside the city gate.
After Cheng Lanzhou left, Jiang Yutang focused most of his energy on Zhu Shi, fearing that something might happen to her.
That afternoon, Doctor Xu went out to treat farmers outside the camp, while Jiang Yutang was grinding medicine alone in the clinic.
Suddenly, a series of hurried footsteps approached, and a soldier in military boots strode into the clinic. His eyes swept across the room, and he asked loudly, "Which one of you is Jiang Yutang?"
Jiang Yutang stood up blankly and clapped the powder off her hands: "That's me."
The soldier quickly stepped forward, took out a neatly folded document from his pocket, and handed it to her: "The land matter entrusted by General Cheng has been approved from above. This is the approval document."
Jiang Yutang was so excited that her fingers trembled slightly. She quickly unfolded the document and carefully examined it. After confirming that the seals and comments on it were correct, her face lit up with a smile.
Looking at her, the soldier asked, "Miss, would you like to go see her now? I'm ordered to take you there."
"Yes! Of course I want it!"
Jiang Yutang nodded hurriedly. Just then, Dr. Xu, who had gone out for medical treatment, returned with his medicine box.
She quickly stepped forward and explained the situation. Dr. Xu smiled and waved his hand, saying, "Go ahead, go ahead. I'll keep an eye on things here, so don't worry."
Jiang Yutang followed the soldiers out of the camp wall and walked towards the east side of the camp, eventually stopping in front of a dilapidated house.
Looking at the familiar dilapidated house in front of her, she froze on the spot.
This is clearly the dilapidated house she stayed in before she transmigrated!
"Isn't this place too remote?"
Jiang Yutang whispered a suggestion: "It's probably not very convenient for ordinary people to have to take a long detour to buy things."
The soldier pointed to several other empty, dilapidated houses in front of the main house and explained, "Don't worry, young lady, no one lives in these houses anymore. Winters in Danzhou are exceptionally cold, and many poor people freeze to death every year. These dilapidated houses were originally planned to be demolished. Once the houses in front are demolished, this house will be exposed on the side of the main road, in a very good location."
Jiang Yutang then nodded in understanding.
After quickly thanking the soldiers, Jiang Yutang returned to the clinic with the documents in his pocket.
When they arrived at the clinic, they found the door tightly shut, with not even a note on the door.
She scratched her head and was about to open the door when she suddenly heard Jiang Sumin's anxious shout from behind.
"Jiang Yutang! You're finally back!"
Jiang Sumin, panting heavily, rushed up to her, grabbed her arm, and ran towards the camp: "Quick! Second Sister-in-law is about to give birth! You're not at the clinic, so Doctor Xu has already gone there!"
