Chapter 47 Asking Big Brother for Help Moving Supplies

Chapter 47 Asking Big Brother for Help Moving Supplies

Her grandfather's illness was her biggest worry. Because she had traveled to ancient times before, she hadn't been able to take good care of him. Now that the surgery was arranged, she could finally put her mind at ease.

Upon arriving at the hospital, the line at the payment window was not long in the evening, and Jiang Yutang quickly completed the procedures.

Clutching the payment slip, she hurried to her grandfather's ward. Pushing open the door, she saw the elderly man lying weakly on the bed, wearing a breathing mask, his eyes tightly closed, as if trapped in a dream from which he could not wake. Only the fluctuating curves on the monitor beside him proved that he was still alive.

Jiang Yutang felt a lump in her throat, quietly wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes, walked to the bedside, and gently held her grandfather's cold hand.

"Grandpa, the surgery is all arranged. You'll definitely get better. I'll come back to spend more time with you after I've finished dealing with things over there."

She stayed in the ward for a long time, and only left reluctantly when the nurse came to remind her that visiting hours were over.

To avoid being stuck in ancient times for too long and unable to return to take care of her grandfather, she went to a nursing home and hired an experienced caregiver at a high price, repeatedly instructing her to take good care of her grandfather.

Only after arranging all of this did she feel a little relieved.

Sitting in the taxi, Jiang Yutang recalled what Jiang Sumin had said.

The next town is still two days away.

Suddenly an idea flashed through her mind, and she immediately asked the driver to change routes and go to the supermarket again. Pushing the shopping cart, she headed straight for the snack section and bought two whole boxes of beef jerky.

Back home, Jiang Yutang gathered the newly purchased supplies and her previous belongings together, filling three large bundles.

She checked her phone's battery, confirmed the book was still in her arms, took a deep breath, and triggered the power of time travel once more.

When I opened my eyes, it was still late at night in the exile camp, and the sounds of snoring rose and fell around me.

Jiang Yutang turned over on the straw mat, her eyelids struggling against the sudden onslaught of sleepiness, but finally she could not resist and could only slowly close them.

Before dawn, call someone to help you move the supplies onto the cart.

Jiang Yutang was suddenly awakened from her light sleep. She turned her head to look at the horizon. It was already dawn, and the morning mist was spreading throughout the campsite, blurring the distant trees into indistinct shadows.

She rubbed her sleepy eyes, got up slowly, afraid of waking her sleeping sisters-in-law, and then quietly went around to the fire where Jiang Songzhi was on duty and gently woke them up.

Jiang Songzhi groggily opened his eyes, forcing himself to stay awake: "Little sister?"

"Brother, come with me to the woods. I need to pick up some goods from the 'merchant'." Jiang Yutang lowered his voice, his tone somewhat urgent.

The supplies are still in the woods; we need to move them back before the others wake up.

Upon hearing "pick up the goods," Jiang Songzhi instantly perked up, and the sleepiness in his eyes vanished.

He had long been curious about what the "mysterious businessman" his younger sister had mentioned looked like, fearing she might be deceived by bad people, and now he finally had the chance to see him for himself.

"Okay, I'll go with you! I can lend you a hand."

Taking advantage of the morning mist, the brother and sister quickly walked into the depths of the woods.

Jiang Songzhi was wary of his surroundings, fearing an ambush. He was still thinking about how to get information out of the merchant, but when he arrived at the agreed location, he only saw three large, bulging bundles on the ground, but there was no one in sight.

He frowned and asked in confusion, "Why haven't I seen anyone?"

Jiang Yutang was prepared. She blinked and pretended to be helpless: "Perhaps he had an emergency and left early. He's done this occasionally before, leaving his things here and leaving."

Jiang Songzhi's expression instantly turned serious. He squatted down, carefully examined the bundle, and looked at the footprints around him before standing up and instructing, "Little sister, be more careful when you hand over things to him in the future. This person is elusive and I always feel uneasy about him. What if there is any danger?"

"I know, big brother, don't worry, I'll be careful," Jiang Yutang quickly reassured him, but secretly felt relieved.

The two of them worked together to carry the bundle and headed towards the camp.

As soon as she stepped out of the woods, she felt a gaze fall upon her. Looking up, she saw Cheng Lanzhou standing beside the cart, holding a bowl of porridge, staring at them with an inquisitive look.

To be precise, it's about keeping an eye on the burdens they're carrying.

Jiang Songzhi noticed the gaze and naturally waved to Cheng Lanzhou, greeting her with a smile: "Lanzhou, you're up early."

Cheng Lanzhou withdrew her gaze, nodded slightly, and remained silent.

But Jiang Yutang always felt that the gaze had never left her, and a chill ran down her spine.

He must have sensed that something was wrong.

At breakfast, the yamen runners distributed thin porridge as usual. The porridge was watery and tasteless.

Jiang Huaiyu leaned closer to Jiang Yutang and whispered, "Little sister, take out your 'dark sauce,' just mix a little bit!"

Jiang Yutang thought for a moment, took out a bottle of Lao Gan Ma chili sauce from his bundle, unscrewed the cap, first scooped a spoonful into each of his own bowls, then went over to the Cheng family's side and added a little to the bowls of Cheng Lanzhou, Lin Shi, and Cheng Daier.

The three of them stared at the dark, oily substance in the bowl, their eyes filled with skepticism.

Seeing the Jiang family enjoying their porridge so much, they couldn't resist picking up their spoons and carefully taking a bite themselves.

The spicy aroma instantly spread in my mouth, giving the originally bland porridge a new flavor.

Before they set off, the camp gradually came alive with people as the refugees packed their meager belongings, while the yamen runners impatiently urged them on.

As Jiang Yutang was helping Yun Shi secure the bundle to the cart, Jiang Huaiyu suddenly crept over furtively and lightly nudged her arm with his elbow.

He lowered his voice and asked, "Little sister, do you still have that kind of 'candy' you gave me before? You know, the one that smells nice when you chew it and you can blow bubbles with it."

Jiang Yutang paused for a moment, then realized he was talking about chewing gum. He took out a small tin box from his pocket, shook out a piece, and handed it over: "You mean chewing gum? Here you go."

Jiang Huaiyu waved his hand, a sly smile on his face: "Not enough, not enough, give me three more, I need them!"

Seeing the other person's expression, she instantly understood what he was up to.

He probably wanted to show off his chewing gum, and maybe even tease Cheng Lanzhou's family.

She rolled her eyes helplessly, signaling to him with her eyes that he was "childish," but still poured three more pills out of the tin box and stuffed them into his hand: "Be careful, don't cause any more trouble."

"Don't worry!" Jiang Huaiyu tucked the chewing gum into his pocket, deliberately straightened his back, and strode towards the Cheng family's house, looking just like a show-off local thug.

He walked up to Cheng Daier, waved the chewing gum in his hand, and said with a smile, "Miss Cheng, want to try this? It's a good thing my sister gave me; it's very refreshing to chew."

Cheng Daier frowned, glanced at the small candy in his hand, and didn't take it.

Seeing this, Jiang Huaiyu was not in a hurry. She first opened a pill and put it in her mouth, chewing it exaggeratedly and blowing a small bubble at them.

Seeing this, Cheng Daier became curious, so she reached out and took a piece, carefully put it in her mouth, chewed it a couple of times, and her eyes lit up.

Lin also took one, and Cheng Lanzhou hesitated for a moment before finally taking the last one, putting it in her mouth without any expression, but she didn't spit it out.

Jiang Yutang watched this scene from a short distance away, and couldn't help but shake his head with a muffled chuckle.

She had just turned around and taken a few steps when she vaguely heard Jiang Huaiyu's voice behind her, tinged with smugness, and could only faintly make out the word "block".

Then came Cheng Dai'er's cursing.
