Chapter 146 Missing me, they came looking for me.

Chapter 146 Missing me, they came looking for me.

As soon as the words were spoken, the Jiang family fell silent, each of them stunned for a long time.

Jiang Shengan stroked his beard, his gaze fixed on Cheng Lanzhou, and asked uncertainly, "General Cheng, do you mean you're unwilling to divorce my daughter?"

"Yes." Cheng Lanzhou replied decisively, without the slightest hesitation.

Yun rubbed her forehead, her tone full of surprise: "But you kept saying you wanted a divorce, why did you suddenly change your mind?"

"mother......"

Jiang Yutang hurriedly interrupted to explain, but before she could utter the word "Mother," she was glared at by Madam Yun and could only shrink back in grievance and obediently shut her mouth.

"What else could it be?" Jiang Huaiyu sneered, her tone full of sarcasm.

"It must be because when my younger sister was helping the wounded in the outer camp, other captains kept showing her affection, and General Cheng only realized how good she was and couldn't bear to let her go."

Cheng Lanzhou clenched her fists without refuting, looked up at Jiang Shengan and Madam Yun, and said sincerely, "There were indeed misunderstandings between Yutang and me in the past, and it was my fault for being too slow and wasting two years of her life. I am sorry to her. But I am now truly repentant and only want to be with her. I beg you two to grant my request!"

The tent fell silent again; no one spoke.

Seeing this, Madam Lin sighed softly and slowly said, "Indeed, both our families were dissatisfied with the marriage of the two children back then, and there were quite a few misunderstandings in between. But now that both children are interested, why not let them give it another try?"

"Try? On what grounds?" Jiang Huaiyu slammed her hand on the table and stood up abruptly. "Just because Cheng Lanzhou says he wants to try, does that mean he has to sacrifice my little sister's precious time? Wasting two years wasn't enough, does he expect to waste another four?"

These words thoroughly enraged Cheng Dai'er. She stood up abruptly and questioned sharply, "What do you mean by that! It was your family that tried every means to arrange the marriage before? Now you say you want to break it off, and you just do that, but when we say we want to continue it, you're not happy about it. What a display of official arrogance!"

"You!" Jiang Huaiyu was furious and rolled up her sleeves, ready to argue.

"Enough!" Jiang Shengan shouted sternly, his beard trembling slightly with anger. "When elders are speaking, what right do juniors have to interrupt!"

Madam Lin's face darkened, and she snapped at Cheng Dai'er, "Sit down! Who taught you manners!"

Cheng Daier stubbornly pursed her lips, glared fiercely at Jiang Huaiyu, and reluctantly sat back down in her original seat.

Xiaoxiao, who was behind the curtain, was so frightened by the tense atmosphere that she started crying loudly. Mu Shi had no choice but to carry her out of the tent quietly, trying not to disturb the conversation inside.

Jiang Shengan took a deep breath, glanced at everyone, and slowly said, "It was my mistake to have my two children hastily married back then. Since it was a mistake, I can't let it continue."

Cheng Lanzhou immediately kowtowed to Jiang Shengan, his tone solemn: "I, Cheng Lanzhou, hereby swear that I will treat Yutang well from now on, cherish and protect her, and never repeat the mistakes of the past. If I violate this oath, I am willing to accept military punishment!"

"Hmph, all talk and no action..." Jiang Sumin muttered.

Jiang Huaiyu scoffed and was about to continue her mockery when Jiang Jiuze covered her mouth and dragged her out of the tent. Outside the tent, Jiang Huaiyu's "mmm" sounds could be heard.

Jiang Songzhi looked at Jiang Yutang, his tone gentle yet serious: "Little sister, this marriage concerns your entire life, and we all want to hear your thoughts."

Finally, it was her turn to speak. Jiang Yutang straightened her back, met her family's concerned gazes, and nodded vigorously: "I do."

"Tsk."

Jiang Sumin rolled his eyes and let out a cryptic sigh.

Madam Yun took her hand, her face full of worry: "Tang'er, you must think this through! Marriage is not a game; you can't act impulsively and repeat the mistakes of the past!"

“Mother, I’ve thought it through.” Jiang Yutang’s eyes were sincere and firm. “I’ve grown a lot in the past two years and I know what I want. The misunderstandings of the past have been cleared up, and I won’t make those mistakes again. I want to rekindle my relationship with Lanzhou and live a good life together.”

"You're harming the child, you're so foolish..." Madam Yun looked anxiously at Jiang Shengan for help.

Jiang Sheng stared at her intently for a long time before slowly asking, "Are you really sure about this?"

“Yes!” Jiang Yutang nodded emphatically.

After a long silence, Jiang Shengan sighed and waved his hand, "So be it."

The struggles outside the tent grew more intense. If Jiang Jiuze hadn't stopped him, Jiang Yuhuai would probably have rushed in long ago.

Jiang Yutang and Cheng Lanzhou both breathed a sigh of relief and smiled at each other.

After the two families talked things out, the tense atmosphere finally eased, though there was still a lingering awkwardness.

Yun smiled awkwardly and pointed to the fruit plate on the table: "These snacks were all obtained by Tang'er with great difficulty. You should try them; they taste quite unique."

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Jiang Yutang rummaged through the wooden cabinet and took out a bar of soap, shampoo, and shower gel. She took one of each and pushed them in front of Lin Shi and Cheng Daier.

"Mother, Aunt, these are some nice toiletries I found. Try them first, and if you like them, I'll bring you some more next time."

Lin picked up the soap and smelled it. A fresh floral scent wafted out, much better than the soap pods they usually used. She immediately smiled and accepted it, saying, "Thank you so much. This child is so thoughtful."

In fact, the more she spent time with Jiang Yutang, the more pleasing he seemed to her.

It's understandable that she would want to divorce her son after learning that he was truly in love with her.

Cheng Daier didn't speak, her gaze unconsciously drifting towards Jiang Huaiyu sitting on the other side.

Jiang Huaiyu noticed her gaze, but simply turned her head away indifferently and looked at the night sky outside the tent.

A hint of loneliness flashed in Cheng Dai'er's eyes, and she pursed her lips.

As it grew late, Madam Lin rose to take her leave: "I have troubled you for so long today, I will not keep you from resting any longer."

The Jiang family members quickly got up to see them off. Jiang Yutang also leaned on her cane to see them off, but Cheng Lanzhou stepped forward quickly, took over the support from Yun Shi, and naturally put his arm around her.

The two stepped out of the tent, completely disregarding their families behind them.

Cheng Lanzhou helped her slowly walk to the edge of the camp where there was no one. Jiang Sumin came back to his senses and wanted to talk to his younger sister, but when he looked up, the two of them had already gone far away.

"I thought this matter wouldn't work out today."

Jiang Yutang broke the silence first, her tone relaxed after the event: "Especially when my third brother and aunt were at odds, I was on the edge of my seat."

Cheng Lanzhou looked at her seriously, his eyes firm: "If it doesn't work this time, there will be a next time. If it doesn't work next time either, we'll keep waiting until it succeeds."

Jiang Yutang's cheeks flushed at his blunt words, but she smiled and changed the subject: "By the way, when are you going back to the military camp this time?"

"I have to go back in two days."

"Oh." Jiang Yutang puffed out her cheeks and looked down at her feet.

Seeing her reluctant expression, Cheng Lanzhou smiled and gently stroked the tip of her nose.

"Don't look at me like that. I specially applied for a family visit permit this time. If you miss me, just take the permit and come to the military camp to find me."

Jiang Yutang's eyes lit up, and she teased, "That token isn't just a random piece of paper, is it?"

Cheng Lanzhou chuckled softly, "How could I be so perfunctory?" He then took her hand and placed a warm wooden plaque in her palm.

The wooden plaque was polished smooth and rounded, with the character "Cheng" engraved on the front and his military rank insignia on the back. A simple pattern was also carefully engraved around the edge.

Jiang Yutang held the wooden plaque, her fingertips tracing its patterns, feeling a warm glow in her heart.

Cheng Lanzhou looked at her docile cat-like eyes and was about to raise his hand to stroke her cheek when the other woman suddenly looked up, her eyes filled with curiosity.

"By the way, do you know what happened between my aunt and my third brother?"
