Chapter 180 The Wizard's Curiosity
Gollum, who was speeding across the wilderness under the scorching sun, had no idea that he had escaped a disaster invisibly.
Compared to him, old Gandalf, who was riding on a fast horse, was obviously more concerned about the movements in Lonely Mountain and the River Valley.
"I really can't bear to be quiet for a moment."
It was very rare for Levi to take the initiative to lead his troops to conquer a certain place.
If this isn't curious, then is he still a wizard?
I couldn't bear it anymore, I had to go see what was going on.
Early in the morning.
In the Valley City, Gandalf tied the horse to the manger of the inn, fed it a handful of wheat as usual, patted the horse's head gently, and walked towards the palace at the highest point of the city.
"It is Gandalf."
From a distance, the sharp-eyed dwarf Fili saw the old man in gray climbing up the stairs.
As if hearing the exclamation, Gandalf waved his hand upwards.
Fili also jumped and waved in response.
Gandalf came up slowly and asked with a smile:
"How have you been lately?"
"It couldn't be better, my goodness, Gandalf, you don't know what you've been missing - a perfect battle and a great party!"
"That's a shame. I've been traveling around trying my luck."
"Try your luck?"
"Yes, try your luck."
Gandalf said cheerfully, "There are countless coincidences happening every moment in this world. I never know when one of these coincidences will happen to me. Don't you think this is interesting?"
Philip listened carefully, but felt a little confused. He shook his head and said:
"Then you will definitely miss a lot of coincidences. Okay, let's not talk about these twists and turns. Levi and Bard are both inside, and Thorin will be here soon. We have a final celebratory dinner tonight, and Levi will cook it himself. Don't miss this coincidence."
Gandalf raised his eyebrows and responded, "That's great, but I don't agree with your first sentence, Fili. What's important is not coincidence or inevitability, but personal participation and the process of exploration."
"Just like eating, you definitely don't come here just to fill your stomach, right?"
Now Philip understood.
"Of course, there aren't many times when you get to see Levi cooking."
"It's hard to understand why someone with such good cooking skills still likes to eat dry food. If it were Bombur, he would definitely stay in the kitchen all day and not go out."
"Who knows?"
Gandalf answered casually, and walked into the gate with Fili.
Soon, he saw two people at a conference table.
Levi and Bud, also the lord and his deputy, seemed to be discussing something.
"I agree with this."
Levi said, "Since the road has been repaired and there are no threats nearby, why not build more houses to spread out the town?"
"That's settled then."
After the simple meeting, Gandalf and Fili just happened to come over.
Gandalf smiled and was about to say hello, but when he met Levi's meaningful eyes, he seemed to have thought of something and immediately shut his mouth.
Levi didn't say anything either.
There was silence for a moment.
"Ahem."
"On this sunny morning, doesn't anyone say anything to an old man like me who has come from afar, like a greeting or something?"
This vengeful old man.
Levi smiled and said, "Well, the weather is indeed sunny. Have you eaten?"
Old Gandalf had never expected to use "Have you eaten?" as a greeting.
I'm afraid he learned this from the Hobbits.
He had to swallow the words he had prepared.
"have eaten."
"Then remember not to eat too much at noon, there will be a small banquet in the evening."
"Of course not. I'm not the type of person who can't hold back my stomach."
"I heard that you were going on a expedition against the Orc town."
Gandalf, who failed to take revenge on the last "Good morning", went straight to the point and said: "As a lord, you really can't rest for a moment."
"It has been only a year since we last saw each other, but the Orc Town, this scourge rooted in the mountains, has been cleared. Those who remain in the vicinity, especially Beorn's family, will be grateful to you."
"Who let them block my way?"
Levi shrugged.
This is absolutely true, the road is blocked by them in a physical sense.
After a brief chat, Levi asked, "Any news recently?"
A wizard never visits without a purpose.
Unless he really is here for tourism.
"Nothing big."
After saying this, Gandalf thought for a moment and added: "But if I must say something, there are still some things I can mention."
"On the way here, I saw a strange creature that ran out from the Misty Mountains. It crawled on all fours, like a degenerate goblin."
"Could it be a goblin that escaped?" Bard expressed his opinion.
"No, although they are just as thin and similar in body shape as goblins, they are definitely not the same species. I can tell that."
Gandalf shook his head.
"It might be Gollum." Levi thought of that guy first.
"Gulu?"
Gandalf frowned, looking thoughtful.
After a moment, he suddenly said:
"Oh, oh - I seem to have some impression of this name. He was a weird bad guy who did evil things everywhere and was finally driven out of the town."
"He has many secrets, and seems to have lived too long..."
Shaking his head, Gandalf said, "Maybe it's some kind of curse, or some kind of dark magic. It's definitely not a good thing."
"He's a poor fellow, too."
"Probably." Levi didn't discuss this topic too much.
Gandalf also chose to skip Gollum, and continued: "I went to Gondor not long ago."
"Gondor's situation has been good recently. The pressure from Mordor has suddenly decreased a lot. They have successfully recovered some territory during this period and continued to advance. One commando team even reached the gate of Minas Morgul."
“But they didn’t go in.”
Gandalf warned intentionally: "The territory where Minas Morgul is located is shrouded in deadly poisonous fog and curse. Just breathing there is a torture for mortals. Even if you cover your mouth and nose, as long as you stay in that land, you will soon become seriously ill."
"That place is filled with despair. Even if 10,000 well-equipped soldiers went there, they would die."
"Don't worry, I won't let my subjects attack that place."
At most, go and see for yourself.
"But you mentioned that the pressure on Gondor has decreased." Levi continued with his previous words.
"Yes, the southern Haradrim suddenly stopped their offensive, and the army of Mordor also withdrew a lot."
"I suspect something went wrong internally."
"Something went wrong."
"You know?"
"I know."
Levi nodded and said:
"The Easterlings and Mordor formed a coalition to fight against the Khand and the traitors who defected to the Khand. The Haradrim also participated in this battle, and they also dispatched mammoth war elephants."
Gandalf showed a look of understanding, then narrowed his eyes and stared at Levi.
"How do you know that?"
"I just came back from there."
