Chapter 327: The Purging of Angmar
"It's sunny now."
In the North, on the Great Wall, Gandalf looked up at the sky of Angmar in the distance and muttered something.
"No, that's not right."
After muttering, Gandalf looked left and right, and then denied himself.
Only part of the sky cleared.
That part was the place that had been cleared by the expeditionary army, and the remnants of black magic gradually disappeared as the evil creatures were cleared.
And this decline is spreading from the center to both sides as the cleanup continues.
At this efficiency, this vast polluted land can be completely cleaned up in one or two years.
This speed is definitely not slow.
"It looks like my help is not needed here."
Shaking his head, Gandalf walked down the city wall and continued to walk leisurely westward, heading straight for the Shire.
With a cart full of fireworks.
The new year has arrived.
Wizards displayed brilliant fireworks at the lively annual party in the Shire and brought news from the North to friends everywhere.
One year is enough time for this major event to spread to all parts of Middle-earth.
Later, people called this expedition to Angmar the "Northern Crusade".
In early 2999, the Northern Expedition entered its final stage.
Most of the land of Angmar was completely cleared. Wherever the army passed, it was covered with the black blood of evil creatures, and there was a fishy smell in the air.
“Assemble!”
In the cold mountains covered with snow and ice at the westernmost end of Angmar, Levi shouted, and the legion behind him immediately began to gather and line up, as neat and solemn as usual.
Since the opponents were composed of a group of miscellaneous soldiers that were difficult to organize, our losses were minimal.
This result is undoubtedly exaggerated.
"Carn-dûm."
On the top of the mountain, Levi looked at the abandoned fortress in the distance where a large number of monsters gathered and read out its name.
That was once the capital of the Witch Kingdom of Angmar. Thousands of years ago, it was conquered by a coalition of forces, the Witch King was defeated and fled, and this place was abandoned.
However, thousands of years later, this relic has gathered a large number of evil things, among which a faint morbid green light can be seen coming from the walls of this building.
"It looks like there's still some magic attached to this fortress."
Snap, Snap…
Just as Levi was thinking about whether he should go over and try to break the magic defense with a pickaxe, the sound of horse hooves came from behind him.
The soldiers moved in an orderly manner to make way for the galloping horses to run to the front.
"Gandalf."
Looking at the person running over, Levi raised his hand and waved.
"Levi!"
The horses stopped and Gandalf quickly dismounted, shouting.
He nodded to Aragorn beside him as a greeting, then took a breath and said, "I heard that you were planning to attack that fortress."
"That's right. Now the entire Angmar has been cleared. Except for this place, all the remaining enemies have hidden in that fortress. As long as we can capture it and clear out the enemies inside, then this expedition can be declared over."
Levi looked at the dirty brown clouds over the fortress of Carn-dûm in front of him and the cold snow beneath them, then turned his head to look at the clear sky and bright land behind him, and said: "From now on, Angmar will no longer be able to shelter evil."
Gandalf smiled.
"This is a great achievement, and history will remember it."
"And you, Gandalf, are you here to bear witness?"
"No."
Gandalf shook his head and said, "More than a witness."
"Let me also contribute."
He stood at the front of the army, leaning on his cane, facing the evil land on the cold snowy plain ahead and said, "Leave the magic in that fortress to me."
"Actually… well, well, I'll leave it to you, our trusty wizard."
After thinking about it, Levi said this.
In fact, even if we don’t deal with it, there are many ways to solve this fortress.
But since there are more convenient means available, why not do it?
So the human side added a wizard as a helper - this is exactly what a wizard should do.
Compared with other wizards, Gandalf can truly be said to be a model worker among the wizards in Middle-earth.
Boom! As the staff radiated light, the faint green light on the fortress faded, revealing the dark walls underneath with a layer of solid frost.
And so, the final encirclement and suppression began.
Boom!
The sound of explosions came from the front. When the green light on the city wall protecting the fortress faded, just a few TNTs opened a big hole in the city gate. Immediately afterwards, more parts of the fortress were hit hard and almost the entire side collapsed.
The dark creatures and enemies inside have no place to hide anymore, they can only come out to fight.
After the final preparations were made, the army pressed forward in unison, and their momentum was so great that it directly pushed away the dark clouds in the sky.
It is recorded that the Lord of the North, the wizard and three commanders rushed to the front with swords in hand, setting an example for the army.
In less than a day, the unfortified fortress fell and the last of the enemy was liquidated.
While they were hiding in the fortress, they also blocked their own retreat, and no enemy escaped during the entire operation.
The last of the dark clouds lifted from Angmar, ushering in clear skies and bright sunshine.
Sooner or later, the polluted brown land will turn green, and like other places, grass may cover the entire plateau like a blanket.
Now, the last remaining possibility of Angmar's restoration was extinguished, and even the Orcs or Wargs hiding in the secret caves in the deep mountains and forests were pulled out.
The west side of the Misty Mountains was completely safe.
Looking across the entire mountain range now, there is only one place where there are still a large number of enemies - that is Gundabad in the northernmost part of the Misty Mountains.
This magnificent mountain range was the place where the ancestors of the Dwarves awakened, but was later occupied by the Orcs and became their capital.
When Angmar was purged, the Orcs of Gundabad were trembling with fear, for now they saw enemies everywhere, and it seemed that there was no room for them to move.
Not at all.
And that's exactly what they thought.
Soon, the army changed direction and set its sights on Mount Gundabad, intending to clear out the remaining Orcs here in one fell swoop.
Faced with Levi and the army he brought, the Orcs were disheartened and even their final struggle seemed powerless.
But some people were anxious.
"At least this one should be taken with us, right?"
The dwarves mobilized a force overnight to join the attack on Gundabad.
After all, this is the place where the first dwarf in the world - the ancestor of all dwarves, the first king of Khazad-dûm, 'Undead' Durin I awakened. It is of great significance to the dwarves and is the source of their existence in this world.
In late autumn of 2999, Gundabad Mountain was declared cleared, with not a single orc left.
The holy land of the dwarves was also recovered.
Gundabad became a new Free Folk-controlled location with some dwarven and human activity, but not much.
At the end of the year, a watchtower was built high up in the Gundabad Mountains to monitor the surrounding area and further north.
Perhaps because the Gundabad Mountains are indeed too desolate and there is not much scenery to see, it is not taken seriously. Apart from the guards at the outposts, there are few signs of human activities here.
Only dwarves are relatively common, but most of them are pilgrims who come here to climb the mountains with great effort, to remember their ancestors and commemorate the past.
History has turned a new page.
