Chapter 330 Prologue
"Frodo, I am not as good as you think."
One night at Bag End, when Frodo had gone to sleep, Bilbo lit a lamp in his study and began to write a letter.
"I don't know what made me make this decision, but it's definitely not out of kindness. Maybe I feel that among all my relatives - those with the name Baggins, only you have the true style of the Baggins family."
"So, I have decided to entrust Bag End and all my property to you."
"As for me, don't worry. I just want to take one last trip before my life ends. I've been thinking about this for a long time, and I'm afraid it will be too late if I hesitate any longer."
The sound of tiny writing could be heard from the study. It was obvious that Bilbo had been writing a lot that night.
As a Hobbit, Bilbo can be said to have reached the peak of his life. He is wealthy, respected, the oldest Hobbit in the Shire, and the patriarch of the Baggins family. All these can definitely be described as 'highly respected'.
But the adventurous spirit eventually overcame the desire for a comfortable life.
Just like the decision he made sixty years ago.
After writing this letter, or should I say "will", Bilbo sealed it up carefully and started writing another letter.
A banquet invitation letter.
"To Levi."
…
"A hundred and eleventh birthday party of the greatest magnitude ever, Bilbo said."
In September of the year 3001, in Roadside Castle, Levi opened a newly-delivered letter and read it carefully.
Then he started discussing with Gandalf on the side.
"Yes, I know. I have made a lot of preparations for this."
Gandalf had a pipe in his hand, with smoke coming out of his mouth.
"Are you talking about the truckload of fireworks over there?" Levi tilted his head and looked.
He noticed it when Gandalf came. This guy used a pony to pull a whole cart of fireworks of various shapes, and it seemed that he was planning to show it off at Bilbo's birthday party.
"Hmm, don't underestimate my special fireworks, Levi. They may not be very powerful, but they are definitely much better looking than the fireworks you use for fighting."
"Believe me, I have practiced this craft for thousands of years."
"Really? Then I'm really looking forward to it."
"It will be a feast for your eyes."
Gandalf nodded cheerfully, as if to say, "Just wait and see what happens."
"There's no time to lose. I must get going. The pony pulling the cart doesn't go very fast. Bilbo will complain bitterly if I'm late because of this."
"pony…"
Li Wei asked casually, "Why not use that fast horse?"
Gandalf was silent for a moment, then said quietly, "A fast horse. Yes, it was very fast. Too fast. It was so fast that the carriage I was riding in flipped over once, and I fell down with it. You don't want to know what happened at that time. My waist still hurts now."
"That's really..."
Levi shrugged.
It seems that when the cargo load is too large, running too fast is not necessarily a good thing.
"What about you? When do you plan to go?" Gandalf asked Levi.
"A few days later, I will arrive before the banquet."
"All right."
Gandalf left.
Levi leaned back in his chair a little, tapping his fingers on the table, his mind drifting to the north.
Since Angmar was completely cleared, the environment there has gradually eased over time, and green grass has slowly but steadily spread there.
Many outposts were also established in the former capital of Angmar and in areas further north to monitor what was happening behind the great snow-capped mountains further north.
Logically speaking, there should be no need to do this, but for some reason, the uninhabited snowfield over there made Levi feel uneasy from the bottom of his heart.
Even the rangers felt the same way.
For this reason, neither Angmar nor the Ettenmoor were used as new gathering places.
Instead, they just put up a few outposts there to show their claim.
——It was still a decision made out of a conservative strategy. Before the possible hidden dangers were resolved, neither Levi nor the people in charge of related work in Roadside Fort would easily let people settle there.
Most people still lived behind the Wall, wary of the northern wastes further north than Angmar.
After dealing with many affairs of the territory a few days later, seeing that the time was almost up, Levi mounted his horse and followed Gandalf's movements all the way west.
Go to attend the banquet that has been prepared for a long time.
Gurgle…
The wheels rolled along the country path, occasionally making clanging sounds due to the potholes on the ground.
"From now on, the journey will never end~"
"Even though the road ahead is long~"
"But you have to be quick..."
A melodious and relaxing melody came from a distance. The tune was catchy, smooth and pleasant.
It was driven by a gentle voice.
"You are late, Gandalf."
High up on the hill, a young hobbit held his chest and rebuked the singer.
"A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins."
Gandalf stopped the carriage, looked up, and continued, "He will not arrive early, but on time as he wishes."
The two of them stood there staring at each other for a while.
After a moment, they all burst into laughter at the same time.
"How good it is to see you, Gandalf!"
Frodo rushed forward excitedly.
"Oh, you don't think I'm going to miss Bilbo's birthday, do you? Ha, ha ...
"I heard from Levi that this banquet was 'unprecedentedly grand'."
"Indeed, the whole of Shire was in chaos and chaos."
“Half the Shire is invited to the feast,” said Frodo. “As for the other half who are not invited—they will come of their own accord.”
"Hmm... that means everyone in the entire Ciel will be here. It's just as he said, an unprecedented event."
Gandalf lit his pipe and smiled.
It was a good idea to bring the fireworks today. This kind of thing is only fun when there are a lot of people around.
It's very lively.
Just as he was thinking, Frodo suddenly said, "Uncle Bilbo has been staring at the map and his attention has been wandering lately."
"I know you have something to do with this, don't you, Gandalf?"
"What?" Gandalf looked at Frodo with an innocent look in his eyes.
"Just pretend."
"Before you came, the Baggins family had a very good reputation, and no one ever thought of taking any risks."
"That may not be certain." Gandalf shook his head.
"You can't blame me for this. Bilbo certainly didn't tell you that he was very naughty when he was little. Once he ran straight from Bag End to the Old Wood and didn't come back until the evening. His parents were very worried."
"Well, I haven't heard of this." Frodo seemed a little surprised.
His impression of Bilbo, his closest uncle, is more of a "mysterious old man with many stories". Even though the two have known each other for decades, this sense of mystery has not diminished at all. As long as you are willing to look carefully, you can always find something new about him.
"Well, it's a good thing you haven't heard it. He won't tell you about his embarrassing stories."
"Anyway, believe it or not, I only gave him a little push at the time, and most of the decisions were made by him."
"Really?" Frodo asked doubtfully.
"Whether it has anything to do with you or not, you have been given the title of 'troublemaker' by Ciel."
“Is this true or false?”
Old Gandalf's eyes became more innocent.
He glanced at a Hobbit who was tending to the small garden in front of his house on the side of the road. The Hobbit also looked at him and smiled.
The next second, the laughing hobbit was hit on the head by his wife who came out of the house.
"Oh well, it seems that prejudice is really serious here."
"Gandalf!"
At this moment, a group of children rushed out from the garden nearby, shouting Gandalf's name and shouting words like "fireworks".
"But you see, little children are not subject to prejudice."
Whoosh—bang!
Under the urging of the Ring of Fire, a small firework flew out and exploded, turning into several firework butterflies. After flying for a while, they dissipated in mid-air.
The children were immediately delighted.
Hearing the children's laughter, the two people in the car looked at each other and started laughing too.
The prologue of the story begins here.
