Chapter 370 Possible Ending
Let’s put aside Gandalf’s astonishment for now.
During the time when he fell deep into the earth and chased and fought with the Balrog all the way from the deep underground pool to the top of the mountain, the members of the Fellowship of the Ring were forced by the situation to temporarily escape from their sorrow and head east to seek help from nearby Lothlórien.
However, they were stopped by a group of border guards not long after they started walking.
Led by Haldir, an acquaintance of Levi and the captain of the border guards, he took everyone to a sentry platform on the border and temporarily placed them there to rest.
By the way, discuss the specific matters regarding the group's actions.
Because a messenger from Rivendell had visited Golden Forest before the Fellowship of the Ring set out and delivered information about the Fellowship of the Ring's actions, Golden Forest was friendly towards the team and was willing to provide help.
But as the captain of the guard directly responsible for the security of the Golden Forest border, Haldir was unwilling to expose himself - especially unwilling to expose the route to the heart of the Golden Forest to the dwarves.
Not everyone can have a great reputation like Levi before arriving at a place, which can make people in the corresponding place willing to let down their guard and actively receive him.
Especially the dwarves, Haldir proposed to blindfold Gimli alone. This different treatment made Gimli very angry and he had many quarrels with the elves.
Finally, at Aragorn's suggestion, everyone blindfolded themselves and moved forward, which solved the problem.
Lothlórien obviously attached great importance to the Fellowship of the Ring. The lord and his lady came out to receive them.
Seeing that the Fellowship of the Ring was safe and sound, the two elven leaders breathed a sigh of relief.
If Gandalf were here, he might have noticed that Lady Galadriel looked a little haggard, as if she had used too much power.
But unfortunately he was not there.
"The enemy already knows you are here. If you still hope to operate in secret, I'm afraid your idea will be in vain."
Celeborn, Lord of the Golden Forest Elf, said, "Dol Guldur, Mordor, and a rebel army created by Saruman himself are besieging nearby city-states. If it weren't for the resistance of the humans in the North and South Hetao, I'm afraid even this place wouldn't be at peace."
"In addition, the army of Moria hidden by the enemy has joined forces with Dol Guldur to attack the town of Kaer, which is led by the descendants of Beorn the Skinchanger. The road ahead is very dangerous, and you..."
"As far as I know, there should have been nine of you when you set out, but now there are only eight of you here."
"Tell me where Gandalf is. I would love to talk to him."
Everyone was silent.
Lady Galadriel, who was beside Celeborn, gave them the answer.
Gandalf has fallen into the abyss.
As the eight remained silent, Galadriel used his power to convey to them what he had sensed through them.
Everyone either sees the future they care about or receives some words of enlightenment.
The Fellowship of the Ring needs a rest.
The lord and his wife realized this and did not bother them too much. Instead, they ordered people to arrange a resting place for them.
Only then did the allied team finally breathe a sigh of relief and have time to think back on what had happened in the previous few days.
“I still can’t accept it.”
Rather unexpectedly, Sam was the first to speak.
He stroked the sword Levi gave him, which was engraved with Levi's name and blessings, and felt dazed.
Frodo stared at the name on the sword in a daze.
"The beautiful and noble lady said she could not sense Gandalf's presence because he had fallen into a deep pit in the earth or was dead."
"So, Levi also..."
"Our journey has just begun and it has already become like this."
"Cheer up, Sam," Frodo whispered soothingly.
But it was just consolation, and he didn't know what to say next.
In fact, he was more sad and confused than anyone else, but he just didn't show it.
In the dead of night, Frodo stared blankly at the sky, lost in thought.
A certain thought arises in my heart and cannot be shaken off.
The journey had just begun when Levi and Gandalf left one after another. If they continued like this, there would probably be more sadness and separation.
How nice it would be if none of this had happened, or if I could handle all of this by myself without involving others.
"Frodo."
Boromir approached quietly. Thinking of Boromir's previous behavior, especially his desire for the ring, Frodo was instinctively a little alert, but he soon found that his vigilance was a little unnecessary.
Boromir sat aside and said softly, "Whether it's Gandalf or Levi, their efforts have not been in vain."
"You have already taken on enough, Frodo."
"Don't let the dead weigh on your mind."
After saying this, Boromir and Frodo looked at each other and left.
In that brief glance Frodo saw determination.
So he was also encouraged.
At the same time, his prejudice against Boromir also decreased a lot.
It's late at night.
The ethereal singing sounded in the forest.
Legolas looked up at the direction where the voice came from and said:
"They are singing a lament for Gandalf, and they are also singing praises for Levi's exploits."
The song was sad, ethereal and touching. Even Pippin and Merry, who were usually noisy, quieted down and listened carefully.
Even though they didn't understand at all.
"I guess their songs don't mention Gandalf's fireworks or Levi's cooking."
As Sam spoke, he stood up and prepared to recite a poem to complete the points that the two elves would probably not mention.
He stood in the clearing and chanted a little poem that had come to him on the spur of the moment, and Aragorn stopped sharpening his sword so that he could hear it.
But there are still some distractions around.
Gimli, the only one of the party who was asleep, slept so soundly that his snoring almost drowned out the sound of Sam's poetry.
Aragorn, who was looking forward to hearing Sam's poem, became a little anxious. He turned around and slapped Gimli's face, which was as hard as stone, with quite a lot of force.
Snap! Gimli was awakened by the beating and felt angry.
"Oh - what, only the elves are allowed to sing, but the dwarves are not allowed to snore?"
"That's too much. You also discriminate."
He complained a few words, turned over, turned his back to Aragorn and continued to sleep in a huff.
Like a kid weighing several hundred pounds.
After listening to Sam's not-so-exquisite poem and Aragorn finishing sharpening his sword, he stood up, looked around, and found that Boromir seemed quite depressed.
So the two of them started chatting.
"In the revelation of that lady, I saw destruction, but there is still hope, and our people need hope."
"Do you hear the clear silver trumpet calling you home?"
At this moment, Boromir expressed his approval of Aragorn in his own way.
"I expect to hear the tower guards announce one day: 'The Lord of Gondor has returned.'"
Aragorn remained silent and did not respond.
Boromir had a heavy burden on his shoulders, and when the burden was placed on him in the form of expectations, he also felt the heavy responsibility.
It was so heavy that he dared not respond.
While the two were talking, Lady Galadriel approached Frodo and took him to the Water Mirror, trying to give him more detailed revelations.
Under the guidance of Lady Galadriel, Frodo also successfully saw some scenes of the future.
Disaster, destruction, war, fires burning everywhere, the ferocious orcs seem to be right in front of us, the powerful free cities fell into chaos, unable to protect the surrounding areas, the Shire was attacked, and many familiar friends became slaves in chains.
At the end, a huge demonic eye surrounded by flames covered everything.
The water mirror brought Frodo a possible future, but also brought him fear, and attracted the being who created the fear, Sauron.
He turned his gaze here.
Just as Frodo was about to faint and fall into the pool.
Suddenly, a familiar black sword with dark red patterns swung over, expelling the evil eye and replacing it with a reassuring figure.
And the army behind him that bares its swords to all evil and darkness.
indistinct--
All illusions and revelations disappeared, and Frodo grabbed the ring that was about to fall out and stepped back, breathing rapidly and his face covered with cold sweat.
While observing the future, he also experienced a test of his will.
"I know what you saw."
Lady Galadriel looked over with some surprise.
"If you fail in your journey, that is what will happen. The flames will spread across all of Middle-earth."
"Things won't be that simple. Even absolute power may not be able to reverse everything..."
Lady Galadriel gently moved the water mirror, and a picture appeared inside again.
The power of the shadow was greatly enhanced with the return of the One Ring. The world was shrouded in darkness, and only one glorious place in the north remained strong.
But the Lord of the Glorious Land, the Legend of the North, just sat on the pile of enemy corpses, fell into silence, and did not speak for a long time.
Perhaps that would create a new era in which the opposition between light and darkness was the most direct, obvious, and extreme, and only one would survive to the end, marking the end of yet another era.
But as this possibility looms, once again, something changes.
Far away in the roadside fort on the other side of the mountains, Xiaofen opened his eyes after sensing the surrounding noise and people's strange emotions.
He had long noticed that in recent days the residents in the territory seemed to be hiding something from him.
But no matter how silent they tried, the movements in Roadside Fort could not be concealed. Several legion commanders, representatives of various communities and managers gathered together to discuss something, and called on the people to hold a referendum. Then Roadside Fort entered a state of combat readiness and began to mobilize soldiers on a large scale.
Except for the necessary guards, everyone else boarded the Sky Road and headed east.
The city suddenly became much quieter.
But Xiaofen couldn't sleep. These few days, he always felt empty inside.
The news could not be concealed after all.
That day, Xiaofen spread his huge wings on the golden Maolong tree, revealing his ferocious side for the first time in his life.
Behrdan - the Guardian. He gave himself this name in order to protect the land where he had lived and loved since childhood.
His character is unlike any dragon in history.
If I have to describe it, it's like an old yellow dog, mature, steady and loyal.
And that's what he has done. He has been living here quietly for many years, protecting the land where he lives and his family who live on this land.
It was so quiet that many people forgot his existence.
It’s because his role is really not very obvious.
It is only because there has been a person standing in the front and bearing everything for many years that this giant dragon, a force that no one can ignore, looks quite leisurely. He can eat and sleep all day, and occasionally read a book or listen to a story.
Even subconsciously ignored.
But now, the person who raised him and stood at the forefront to withstand everything has left and is nowhere to be found.
The land needs him.
Then Behrdan opened his eyes and let out a roar that resounded through the sky. Orange-red flames shot straight into the sky with the roar, burning through the dark clouds above and setting the entire sky on fire.
The huge figure crossed the mountains and headed towards the war zone in the east.
