Chapter 383: After the War
At this moment, dawn finally arrived slowly.
The enemy corpses piled up like mountains inside and outside the walls of Helm's Deep, making them extremely difficult to deal with.
Fortunately, the Ents who had dealt with the remaining enemy troops came over at this time. They helped bury the bodies of Uruk in the deep and wide valley until a small hill of earth was piled up and all the bodies were cleared away.
Later, the hill was called "Death Hill" and it was said that there were tens of thousands of corpses underneath.
After the matter of Uruk was dealt with, the next thing to happen was the Dunlmans. After seeing that the situation was hopeless, they chose to surrender.
Rohan did not kill all those who surrendered, but forgave them.
But this forgiveness must be based on actions and vows of atonement.
First they had to bury their dead and repair the damaged defences of Helm's Deep, then they must swear never again to cross the borders of Rohan or invade any part of Rohan's land, and never again to associate with the enemies of Mankind.
Those who can swear and do these things can be sent home to continue their lives.
This is already a fairly lenient approach, showing great mercy.
Rohan's affairs are still being dealt with.
Levi had a visitor.
"Um...are you the leader of the northern men that the two hobbits were talking about?"
Treebeard bent down, put his big face in front of Levi, and looked at him curiously.
Levi responded: "If the person they are talking about is called Levi, then that's me."
Treebeard blinked, stared at Levi for a while, and said, "I have lived in the mountains for too long, and I don't know much about the outside world. The only things I know about you are what the two little hobbits said."
"Forgive us. For us, thousands of years are just a period of sleep. During this period, there will always be some heroes, but they are all like shooting stars, fleeting."
Li Wei smiled and replied, "That's right. I know some of your living habits. It's normal for you not to know the news from the outside world."
"Your body is very hot and it makes my skin dry. Although this feeling is not very comfortable, I don't hate you."
"I know from the land that new trees and vegetation have sprung up from the brown ground," said Treebeard. "And it all came about because of you."
"Welcome, my friend. You can come to my house when you are free. It is at the foot of Fangorn Mountain. I will treat you well if I am awake at that time."
"You are also welcome to visit any territory of the Free City...if you are willing to come out."
As he spoke, Levi looked at Treebeard's wooden head and felt that he might not even know what force the Free Cities were or when they came out.
"Hahaha…"
Treebeard smiled, stood up, and said nothing more. He just performed his duties as the 'Shepherd of a Hundred Trees' and made sure that the living trees returned to the forest and did not run around.
After he left, Merry and Pippin ran over and said, "Hey, Levi, you know, when we were attacking Isengard just now, Treebeard mentioned Balrogs and dragons that could breathe fire, saying that they were the army of the Dark Lord, but in the end, only some Orcs appeared, not even trolls."
"How did he come up with those things?"
Both of them were a little confused.
Levi smiled and rubbed the two men's hair, saying, "That is Morgoth's army, not Sauron's."
"Long ago, the title of Dark Lord belonged to Morgoth, but now it is attributed to Sauron."
"That 'Morgoth' sounds very powerful. Wouldn't he have any objection?"
"He has no objection."
Levi made an assertion.
"But his army does exist."
"What, there really is one?!"
Both were shocked by what Levi said.
Wouldn't an army that couldn't even defeat the Ents be the end of the world?
"Yes, indeed, there were some before I came back."
Levi gave a mysterious smile.
The two clever hobbits immediately guessed some information from his words.
"Could it be that during the time you disappeared in the Northern Wasteland..."
"right."
"I wiped out that army. They will never appear again in the world."
“Wow.”
The two little guys were truly stunned at this moment.
"Hey, Treebeard, I have big news!"
After they recovered, the two of them ran towards Treebeard eagerly, wanting to share this first-hand news with him.
Levi looked at the backs of the two lively little guys and laughed again.
But the smile soon faded.
A team of rangers from the Nanhetao city found Levi and reported the latest news to him.
At this moment, there are 40,000 troops gathered there, confronting the largest force of Mordor.
Although the two sides have been in a tense situation and have not started fighting yet, the Free City has never fallen behind in terms of intelligence. Some rangers are lurking near the Black Gate, observing the developments there every day.
"The Black Gate's forces have dwindled, and they have sent a considerable number of them southward."
"According to the mysterious informant at the crossroads, those troops were sent to Osgiliath. Now the battle in Osgiliath is fierce. The Witch King led his army across the bridge. All the Gondor defenders have been forced to withdraw."
"In addition, there is some news from the south. The person who claimed to be the messenger of the Blue Wizard said that a very large Umbar fleet was heading to Pelargir. The ships were full of Umbar's brutal pirates and Harad's elite warriors. It would be difficult for Pelargir's current garrison to resist them."
"The enemy's number easily exceeds tens of thousands, while Gondor's defenders are only a few thousand. They are isolated and helpless."
"Isolated and helpless?"
Levi smiled.
“No.”
"Send the message back and prepare to attack the Black Gate. The time will be when I arrive."
"Also, pay attention to the movements in the north, especially Dalu Town and River Valley City. They are likely to be harassed by dark humans."
"I still have some things to do here. I'll go back after I'm done."
"Let's put pressure on our great enemy."
"Since he dares to attack the capital of Gondor, I will break into his house and see who gets anxious first."
Whether Sauron is in a hurry or not is another matter.
At this time, another person became anxious first.
On the other side, Pippin and Merry, who had been sitting on Treebeard's shoulders and chatting with him all the way and returned to Isengard together, were enjoying the fruits of victory.
"Saruman really knows how to enjoy himself. This wizard who is said to be calm and wise is actually addicted to pipe weed?"
"It's still the best long-grain leaves. Oh, look over there, isn't that the specialty steak from Roadside Fort? And that tobacco leaf with a smooth flavor, I love it so much!"
The two of them ate and took food, and when they were full they smoked their pipes and poured themselves a glass of beer, and had a great time.
But the news of the recapture of Isengard spread quickly, and they were not the only ones to arrive.
"You two stupid hobbits, stay away from my stuff!"
A white... oh no, it was a colorful and gray old man who heard the news and came over. When he saw that the food in his storage room was being eaten up, he became anxious on the spot.
The two hobbits were stunned.
"Gandalf? No, that's not right. His robes aren't that ugly, and his face isn't that smelly. Uh, although he's not that good at ordinary times either."
They murmured.
"Saruman."
Treebeard, who came upon hearing the noise, called out the name of the visitor.
Saruman, who wanted to continue scolding the two hobbits, was suddenly stuck.
Treebeard stared at him, his big eyes vividly showing an expression of 'anger'.
He said in a loud voice: "You have to give me an explanation."
This made Saruman, who was already anxious, feel dispirited.
"Please listen to me. This is not my intention, my friend. You know, I have always loved the towering ancient trees in the forest and never had any thoughts. This is all our enemy's fault. You don't know how much torture I have suffered. It is simply hell. They are unwilling to kill me and let my soul return, nor are they willing to let me go so that I can have a good life..."
"That sounds like torture."
The two hobbits, who were sitting on the ruins enjoying Saruman's collection of tobacco, continued to watch the show and whisper to each other. Listening to Saruman's gossip, the tobacco became more delicious.
Just as Saruman was hurriedly explaining all this, other people arrived shortly after.
Theoden, Theodred, many members of the Fellowship of the Ring, and Levi.
They came to check on Isengard.
