Chapter 68: The Shadow of Dol Guldur
Levi rewarded Legolas, the elf who showed him his fighting skills without reservation and helped him unlock new modules, with a golden apple.
The elves seem to like this thing very much. It is beautiful and practical.
Although there seemed to be a lot of golden apples given away recently, Levi really didn't know what to give as a thank you gift. This thing in his backpack was the most suitable gift, and there were relatively many of them.
But to be honest, I guess no one can refuse the golden apple. It just suits the aesthetic taste of most creatures, and even Oaks say it's good when they see it.
After unlocking the basic swordsmanship, Levi never went to the practice field again, which confused Legolas. Why did this person stop learning after just one day? However, what made the temporary instructor feel relieved was that Levi often went to the nearby area to chop some spiders and wandering orcs after that.
Although he always talks about collecting things, and no one knows what he means, all the elves see his actions. No matter what, everything he does is beneficial to the Woodland Kingdom, and this alone deserves respect.
"Today's drop rate is so high."
In the forest, Levi chopped off another spider with an embarrassed look on his face.
In the past few days, I have killed hundreds of spiders of all sizes and destroyed several nests. My backpack is almost full of spider eyes, but I only dropped a basic sword skill and a dodge skill ball.
After raising his basic sword skills to level two and his dodge to level one, Levi put away his sword and returned to the Woodland Kingdom.
Tomorrow is the Starlight Feast, and it is also the day we have agreed to gather.
"I sensed a number of orcs lurking at the eastern border of the forest. They seemed to be searching for something."
To the east of the woods is the river leading to Lake Town, which is also an important trade route for the elves. It is definitely not a good thing to have Orcs entrenched there.
Back at the palace, Levi brought the intelligence to the king, and after receiving an answer that Thranduil would value, he set out for Dol Guldur Fortress.
The day after Levi left, a banquet was held in the Woodland Kingdom. The elves carried buckets of fine wine to the banquet hall and raised their glasses to celebrate.
However, on this wonderful day, bad news came.
"The dwarves ran away."
Upon hearing the news, Thranduil was no longer in the mood to drink and simply put the wine glass aside.
"Legolas, you lead the team, go--"
The king paused as if he suddenly thought of something, and continued, "Go and clear out the orcs nearby. Don't let them ruin our dinner."
"And the dwarf?"
Legolas asked.
"Don't worry about them. Let them go with the river. Life or death is their own business. I don't care."
"Also, remember to bring back a live person when you clean up the orcs. I have something to ask you."
Although he had many doubts, Legolas still accepted the order and led a team of elves to the river mouth.
The king sat on his throne, deep in thought.
Dol Guldur - the former residence of the woodland elves, has been abandoned since the elves migrated north in the Second Age.
However, in the Third Age, an evil force took over this place.
It looks shabby and is surrounded by silence, as if nothing is moving here. However, all this is just an illusion to deceive the outside world. Even the rumor about the "necromancer" may have been released proactively, with the purpose of confusing people and buying more time for development.
Levi stepped on dead branches and rotten leaves, approaching the gate of the fortress step by step.
"Gandalf?" he called.
"Is this late?"
"No."
Suddenly a voice came from behind the stone pillar beside him. Levi turned his head and saw two wizards, Gandalf and Radagast in brown robe, walking out together.
"A wizard is never late." Gandalf said the classic line.
"That's right, my hare is here, and others are just late!" Radagast echoed.
"I am almost certain, Levi, that the enemy is here."
Gandalf came closer and whispered, and the three of them gathered in a circle and began to discuss.
"There is a hidden spell covering this place. His actions show that he has not yet recovered his full strength and is not brave enough to show up in public."
"Radagast, go and take a message to the Lady of the Golden Forest, asking for support. We must force the enemy out."
"Don't follow me in. Got it? Levi and I are the only ones left to investigate here."
Radagast was stunned. So you think I’m not strong enough to fight and want me to run errands?
"Okay, okay, okay, I'll go."
Radagast got on the hare and sped away.
Watching the brown robe leave, Levi asked, "What should we do next? Should we just go in?"
"There is no other way. Let's go in and explore. If something goes wrong, we will retreat immediately."
As he spoke, Gandalf drew out Glamdring, held the staff in his left hand and the sword in his right hand, and led the way ahead of Levi, while Levi followed behind him, paying attention to the rear.
Looking at Gandalf's back, Levi couldn't help but think of a phrase: "traveling to the ends of the earth with a cane and a sword" - referring to chopping to the ends of the earth with a cane and a sword.
"Why don't we wait for reinforcements?"
Levi suggested to Gandalf. To be honest, he was still a little scared when he thought of some battle scenes.
After all, even if Sauron lost the One Ring and is now a remnant soul with only a small portion of his power left, his power is still considerable, at least he can easily defeat Gandalf.
I just don't know if this armor will be able to withstand the attack if a fight breaks out.
"It's too late. I must know what Sauron is planning." Gandalf, who has always been cautious, decided to take a risk this time.
"Let's make a deal. If anything goes wrong, we'll run. Don't stay here too long."
"I will, believe me, my life is still useful, I can't just throw it away."
During their careful exploration, the two of them went deep into the dilapidated fortress.
Here, the sky is always overcast, and there is almost no difference between day and night. On the way, Levi looked up and saw a pile of iron cages on both sides. They were full of dry bones of various sizes. It was obvious that many people had been tortured here until they died.
Their torture may even be unprovoked, simply because the Orcs enjoy the act of 'torturing'.
"This is where Thráin was once imprisoned. I met him long ago when I came here to explore."
Gandalf looked at the iron cage above his head and shook his head.
"He was captured and tortured here for five years. No one knows what he had suffered. When I found him, he was already unconscious and couldn't even remember who he was. He passed away not long after he gave me the key and map."
Just as Gandalf was playing the role of the Encyclopedia of Middle-earth as usual, explaining the history of this place to Levi.
brush--
A shadow suddenly flashed by, Levi turned around suddenly, but found nothing. Gandalf also looked over and was about to ask, when suddenly, a sword emerged from behind Gandalf and stabbed down fiercely.
Ding! Levi's nameless sword and Gandalf's Glamdring were drawn out at the same time, blocking the sword that was going straight to the vital point.
