You don't even recognize the word "The male lead is going on another blind date" in Chapter 13? High school level...
Yes, you read that right. Ji Yu went on another blind date halfway through her workday today.
Since he returned from military service, he has been constantly going on blind dates.
At first, he really did want to find a wife, someone sweet and soft to hold in his arms, what more could a husband ask for?
So when a leader or colleague tries to introduce him to a potential partner, he is very proactive, attentive, and grateful. But gradually, he realizes that something is not quite right.
It seems they didn't really want to find him a wife; rather, they were treating his single status and stable job as a resource to be traded away.
After several unsuccessful blind dates, his interest gradually faded. He figured there was nothing he could do if fate wouldn't bring him the right person.
The girl he went on a blind date with today is a high school Chinese teacher. She's the daughter of a relative of his supervisor, and his supervisor even granted him leave for that purpose.
This time, he learned from his previous experience at the farm and specifically chose the city library as the location for the blind date. His Chinese teacher must really enjoy reading.
Ji Yu arrived at the agreed location early and wandered around the library entrance aimlessly.
Suddenly, a woman appeared in the distance, wearing a floral dress and carrying a canvas bag. She walked gracefully and slowly towards us.
It was his new blind date, Lin Wan.
Ji Yu stepped forward to greet him, and then the two went inside together.
"Teacher Lin, what kinds of books do you usually like to read?" the man asked, initiating the conversation.
Lin Wanwen smiled gently, "I've read more Chinese and foreign classics, what about you?"
"I..." Ji Yu frantically racked her brains for a long time before finally coming up with an answer, "I usually read books on military matters."
Ji Yu: I was forced to read it by my superiors in the army, and I also had to write a thousand-word reading note, otherwise I would be punished with pull-ups until I wanted to cry.
Lin Wan looked up at the tall man beside her with a hint of surprise. When her second uncle introduced him, he only said that he was a policeman.
But judging from the implication of his words, "Officer Ji came back from the military?"
Ji Yu: "Mm."
Lin Wan understood, and her first impression of men improved even more; soldiers always gave people a very reliable feeling.
"Officer Ji is truly a promising young man," Lin Wan praised, then casually took a copy of "Dream of the Red Chamber" from the bookshelf beside her and held it in her arms, gesturing to the man to choose one as well.
Ji Yu's gaze swept over the various classical literary works on the bookshelf, and finally, with difficulty, picked up "Romance of the Sui and Tang Dynasties." This one looks like it's about war; it should be interesting, right?
Lin Wan smiled and said, "I've also read the book you chose. We can exchange our thoughts on it later."
Ji Yu seemed lost in thought and didn't reply, only nodding silently. After choosing their books, the two found a desk in a corner and sat down to read quietly.
Before long, Lin Wan was immersed in the world of Dream of the Red Chamber. She had actually read the book many times, but each time she read it, she would have new insights.
At the beginning of this semester, she assigned her students homework to read "Dream of the Red Chamber," and next week they will discuss their reflections in class.
Therefore, she herself needs to reread Dream of the Red Chamber and organize the course content in advance so that she can have something to say when she teaches.
On the other side, Ji Yu opened the book and immediately felt dizzy. The whole book was full of literary descriptions. He tried to do some reading comprehension for a while, but his eyelids kept drooping.
It was as if I had returned to my high school Chinese class. My head swayed back and forth, and I closed my eyes in a daze, slowly leaning over the table to absorb literary knowledge up close.
After a while, Lin Wan wanted to take out paper and pen from her bag to jot down some inspiration, but suddenly heard a slightly heavy breathing sound.
Looking up, I saw Ji Yu lying face down on the book, fast asleep. Her breathing was even, indicating that she had been asleep for a while.
Lin Wan: I'm a lady, I'm not angry, smiling.jpg.
Lin Wan silently thought to herself, "Police work is tough; he's probably just too tired." Then she decided to ignore the man and, after jotting down her inspiration, continue immersing herself in the book.
An hour later, Ji Yu woke up.
He felt he had slept really well; it really was the best time to sleep during Chinese class. The teacher didn't even call him up to be punished; had she finally realized her mistake?
He stretched and opened his eyes to see Lin Wan sitting opposite him. The man froze and gave an awkward smile.
He completely forgot he was there for a blind date; it's all because the other person's Chinese teacher had such a captivating aura.
Lin Wan saw that the man was awake, but she wasn't angry. She just asked in a low voice with concern, "Officer Ji, did you work too hard yesterday? Is that why you're not in good spirits today?"
Ji Yu said frankly, "No, not really. I just find this book boring and uninteresting. It makes me sleepy as soon as I start reading it." She then yawned again.
Upon hearing this, Lin Wan's smile froze slightly. After a long pause, she handed over the copy of "Dream of the Red Chamber" she was holding. "Why don't you try this one? It's my favorite book. I never get tired of reading it."
The man took the book from her hand, flipped through a few pages, and frowned more and more as he read. "What kind of nonsense is this? It's all so pretentious."
"Why can't you just say what's on your mind? All this beating around the bush is so annoying..."
Lin Wan clenched her fists tightly, her fingertips digging into her palms until they hurt slightly. She took a deep breath and tried her best to maintain her composure and grace in front of her blind date.
Her eyes were already fixed on the man, as if she wanted to bite him in anger—this was her favorite book! How dare he!
Ji Yu: "And what about these characters? What's the pronunciation of the one with a roof radical on top of the character '辰'?"
Lin Wan was furious and could no longer bear it. She snatched the book from the man's hand and scolded, "Ji Yu, do you never read books? Are you illiterate?"
Lin Wan: "You don't even recognize this character? How did you learn Chinese in high school?!"
After saying that, she subconsciously explained to him, "宸, originally means eaves, specifically referring to the emperor or things related to the emperor, remember that?"
Lin Wan: This damn occupational hazard of mine.
Chen Mian, who was looking for a book in front of the bookshelf not far away, happened to hear the last two sentences and inexplicably felt that the tone of the voice was somewhat like that of a Chinese teacher.
Holding the book in her hands, she curiously peeked out from behind the bookshelf and saw a gentle-looking older sister wearing a floral dress with long, smooth, black hair cascading over her shoulders.
She looked somewhat angry. A tall man sat opposite her, and judging from his back, it was none other than the familiar Officer Ji.
Lin Wan also saw her and thought that she had spoken a little too loudly and disturbed the other person's reading, so she quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, young lady, did I disturb you? I'll pack up and leave right away."
Chen Mian smiled awkwardly, somewhat embarrassed, when she realized that she had been discovered.
She shook her head silently again, her little head slowly shrinking back, but Ji Yu, who had just turned around, had already seen her.
Ji Yu asked in confusion, "Chen Mian, what are you doing here?"
Upon hearing this, Chen Mian turned around, grabbed her book, and ran away. The man, confused, quickly got up and chased after her.
Lin Wan stared blankly at the scene behind her, then silently picked up the two books and canvas bag from the table and walked towards the library entrance.
Although she didn't know what the relationship was between this young girl and Ji Yu, since the man was willing to abandon her, his blind date, to chase after her, their relationship must be quite close.
She loved reading since she was a child, and later became a high school Chinese teacher. Her ideal partner is a man who is gentle and refined, has literary knowledge, and is romantic.
She longed for a love that resonated with her soul. The man before her might have an excellent job and character, but their souls and interests were far apart, and ultimately, they were destined to be apart.
Meanwhile, after a thrilling chase, the "peeping thief" was finally caught by the brave Officer Ji.
The thief ran away in a hurry, dropping all the books he was holding. Seeing this, the kind-hearted Officer Ji offered to help him pick them up.
The thief's cheeks were flushed, his hair slightly disheveled, and he was squatting on the ground, panting softly. Chen Mian didn't know why she had just run away; by the time she realized it, she was already on the road.
Chen Mian: I didn't do anything wrong, why should I feel guilty and act so self-righteous.jpg
After picking up the books, Ji Yu remembered that Lin Wan was still there. She quickly went back to check, only to find that no one was on the table and the two books had been taken away.
After pondering for a moment, I figured that Teacher Lin might have left early because of something, so I didn't think much of it.
He turned back and picked up the mushrooms from the ground. "Let's go, I'll take you home."
Mushroom: "Why are you taking me home again? Someone's coming to pick me up."
Upon hearing this, Ji Yu asked, "Who?"
Chen Mian said proudly, "I'm not telling you, anyway, someone's coming to pick me up."
"Besides, I haven't finished my business yet. I need to find some books about Xinjiang crops to read."
The man replied, "I'll help you look for it, and then I'll take you home."
Chen Mian explained helplessly, "You really don't need to trouble yourself, Brother Ji. I came with Aunt Yu. She'll come pick me up after she finishes her tea."
The man was relieved. The security situation hadn't been good lately, and it was too dangerous for the young girl to go home alone, given her frail appearance.
After finding the books, Chen Mian went to the front desk to check them out. Ji Yu said goodbye to her and prepared to go back to the police station to work overtime.
As soon as I stepped out of the library, I saw my mother's motorcycle parked at the bottom of the steps, with a bunch of farm tools strapped to the back seat.
Yu Xiaoyue was worried about how she and Chen Mian would get back with a bunch of farm tools when she looked up and saw her son.
Although I don't know why my son is here at this time, it doesn't matter.
Yu Xiaoyue: "Son, come quick! Did you drive? Help Mom take these things home."
Ji Yu silently moved the things back into the trunk of the jeep. As she was closing the door, she caught a glimpse of Yu Xiaoyue starting her motorcycle and leaving, leaving behind only the words, "Remember to take the kapok with you. I'm going back to cook."
Ji Yu: How hungry must my mom be to run so fast...?
After completing the formalities, Chen Mian walked out with the books in her arms, looking around for a long time but not seeing Yu Xiaoyue.
Ji Yu: "Don't bother looking anymore, my mom has already gone home."
Chen Mian: "?"
A note from the author:
----------------------
Mini-theater:
Crucian carp: A day when I was controlled by my high school Chinese teacher was truly terrifying.
Little Cotton: It's clearly you who went too far, you made the teacher angry.
Lin Wan takes a deep breath: I'm a teacher, I'm not angry, I teach everyone regardless of background, smile.jpg
A random thought: My family (though I don't know how many of you there are, none of you talk to me, *crying*), I've finally finished outlining this book (including the plot points of each chapter)! Congratulations! We currently have 110 chapters of main text and 5 chapters of side stories. The main storyline strictly follows the content when we applied for the contract. To increase the richness, we've also added a few subplots interwoven together. I no longer have to worry about the author leaving the ending unfinished!
I will try my best to finish writing it by June 2025. I'm setting this goal now.
