Chapter 40: Something is missing

Few people from my family come over; it's mostly just me. Sometimes I'll have a get-together with a group of close girlfriends, but otherwise, no outsiders come over.

However, the safe was opened with a combination, meaning it wasn't a thief, but probably someone nearby.

Finding out who stole them is easy; just ask around, buy back the lost items, and you can reverse the process to find out who took them.

The big star stood up and took a deep breath.

"Arrange a few professional bodyguards for me; they'll come out with me in a day."

The big star went to the wardrobe, changed into a set of casual clothes, and came out. This matter must be investigated thoroughly. So many things have been lost, and these things represent all their hard work. Whoever dares to steal them will have to pay the price!

And anyone who dares to accept these things will have to pay the price!

Soon, the big star got out of the car. Several Mercedes-Benz cars were already waiting outside. He got in, closed his eyes, and said, "Let's go see who's so bold as to steal my things!"

Inside the shop, Zhang Fan sat behind a slightly worn wooden table. He already knew that the precious jewelry he had acquired privately on the last two occasions belonged to the private collection of Wang Qingyan, a famous star in the entertainment industry.

At this moment, several black Mercedes-Benzes were already parked outside, their windows closed, and the drivers looked solemn, as if they were ready to face the impending storm at any moment.

Zhang Fan waited quietly, wanting to see this big star.

Just then, the shop door was gently pushed open, and a breeze swept in, bringing with it a sense of both freshness and unease.

Wang Qingyan entered the shop with an unprecedented demeanor.

Despite wearing a mask, her unique aura was like a magnetic field, instantly attracting everyone's attention.

Her steps were light yet powerful, each step revealing composure and nobility; even her simple attire could not conceal the innate radiance she possessed.

Several burly bodyguards followed closely behind, standing in a corner with sharp eyes, scanning the surroundings like hawks to ensure Wang Qingyan's safety.

A tense and subtle atmosphere filled the air, as if a storm was about to break.

Wang Qingyan walked up to Zhang Fan, her bright eyes peering through the gap above her mask, staring directly at him with an indescribable anger in her gaze.

Her eyes were deep and powerful, seemingly able to see into people's hearts, making it impossible to look directly at her. Although she tried her best to remain calm and restrained, the anger and disappointment emanating from her very bones still made Zhang Fan feel an unprecedented sense of oppression.

"Did you accept these things?" Wang Qingyan's voice was deep and powerful, each word seemingly squeezed out from between her teeth, full of questioning and dissatisfaction.

Her tone conveyed both anger at the stolen items and disappointment at human greed.

"Who sold it to you?" she asked immediately, her tone even more stern, as if waiting for an answer that would satisfy her, or perhaps giving Zhang Fan one last chance to confess everything.

Faced with Wang Qingyan's questioning, Zhang Fan smiled faintly. He calmly pulled out a stack of neatly organized documents from the depths of the drawer. These were the commitment letters and transaction records signed when the jewelry was acquired.

He gently spread the documents out on the table, showing them to Wang Qingyan in an almost provocative manner, as if silently declaring his innocence and compliance.

“Who sold it to me? Naturally, it was the seller who signed a formal transaction contract with me.” Zhang Fan’s voice was calm and confident, and every word revealed his insistence on and defense of his actions. “I acquired them through legitimate channels, and every piece of jewelry has a clear source and transaction record.”

Wang Qingyan's gaze swept over the pledges, a barely perceptible sneer flashing in her eyes.

She had anticipated this scene. On the way here, she had repeatedly considered the possible scenarios and was already somewhat confident.

Lin Dong, who was once the person she trusted most, has now become the prime suspect.

But at this moment, what matters more is how to quickly retrieve their jewelry, rather than investigating the grudges and feuds behind it.

She looked down at Zhang Fan, her bright eyes revealing an undeniable firmness: "Take out the stuff, and this matter is no longer your concern. I believe you are a smart man and should know how to choose."

Upon hearing this, Zhang Fan laughed even harder, and shook his head slightly, as if he disregarded Wang Qingyan's suggestion: "I bought this with my own money, and you think you can just take it out like that? That's not how the rules of this world are set."

A playful smile appeared on Wang Qingyan's lips, her eyes gleaming with intelligence: "You know the value of antiques very well, don't you? You call this buying it legitimately? You bought it at a low price! You knew it was of dubious origin and still bought it? You think you can escape legal punishment like this? If I report you to the police, will you go to jail?"

Her words conveyed an undeniable threat, but even more so, a sense of sarcasm and disdain for Zhang Fan's behavior.

She knew that although Zhang Fan was cunning, under the dual pressure of law and morality, he would eventually make a wise choice.

"Then call the police, I'm waiting."

Zhang Fan shrugged, appearing completely unfazed.

Even if the police get involved, it will be a matter of returning the stolen goods and making sure Lin Dong goes to jail. That's a treasure worth several small sums of money.

Zhang Fan was certain that Wang Qingyan wouldn't want Lin Dong to go in.

"You should know my identity. It's better for everyone if you reveal it. We've already met. If you're going to do this, then you should know my strength and what kind of family the Wang family is."

Wang Qingyan sneered.

Lin Dong was her secret boyfriend; reporting him to the police would be tantamount to sending him to jail, so she definitely wouldn't report him.

But this kid didn't give me any face at all.

That won't do.

They need to be taught a lesson.

Didn't you see how many bodyguards you had with you?

"If you don't cooperate like this, I find it hard to believe how much harm I could do to you if I went crazy."

Wang Qingyan looked outside; the bodyguards had already come in.

They've already shown enough respect by being courteous before resorting to force.

But if they still refuse to yield, then force will have to be used.

Those things were all bought with great difficulty over the years, and they are very valuable.

"If you really need it, you can buy it back at its current market value."

If Zhang Fan were to add a word, he would surely be happy to sell it.

Everyone's making money, so of course this big star has to contribute.

"My stuff, I'm paying double? You really dare to think that way."

As Wang Qingyan walked back, the bodyguards, already itching to teach Zhang Fan a lesson, went inside.
