Chapter 137 Kiss Me

Chapter 137 Kiss Me

"In this kind of weather, even a tow truck won't come! Who would come to the mountains? I shouldn't have taken this order." The driver cursed and blamed her for the bad luck.

Qin Tian opened his phone and transferred the money to him. She opened the car door and took her luggage from the trunk.

"What are you doing!" the driver rolled down the window and shouted at her.

"Master, there's not much distance left. I can walk there myself."

Qin Tian pushed her luggage and carried a cake as she walked forward in the rainy night. She had a folding umbrella in her bag, but she didn't have any extra hands to hold it. She thought about asking Tong Zhongyuan to pick her up, but it was so late, he might have already fallen asleep. Even if he came, he didn't have a car, and there was no need to bring another person with him on a rainy night and a mountain road. There were still two kilometers to go, and she would reach her destination if she held on. She had experienced more difficult times than this. She would just go back and take a hot shower.

To her surprise, the cake was in a paper bag. The rain lashed it, and the bag fell apart. She felt her grip lighten, and with a startled cry, she let go of her luggage, catching the cake just in time. The road was uphill, and the luggage, uncontrolled, tumbled downhill until she lost her balance and fell to the ground.

Her phone vibrated in her pocket. She stood in the rain, holding the cake in her hands, her hair and body dripping with water.

He couldn't wait any longer. What could have caused her not to answer the phone? The uneasiness took shape, tightening his chest. He grabbed his car keys, rushed out the door, and started the car. The headlights came on, casting two long beams of light through the darkness. At the end of the beams, she stood in the cold winter rain, holding a box in her arms, shielding her eyes with the back of her hand.

He slowly opened the car door and stepped into the rain. His shadow, drawn long by the headlights, quietly shortened the distance between them. He walked toward her, his steps quickening until he was running. The winter rain lashed his face, and in his eyes, the world was filled with only the howling sound of wind and rain.

Qin Tian stood there, unable to open her eyes. The figure, darting towards her against the light, was him. She knew it was him. Why did she want to cry? She wasn't feeling wronged; she was doing this willingly. She'd run a thousand kilometers just to say one thing.

"Happy birthday."

She held the cake, raised her eyes, and her eyelashes were covered with raindrops.

He raised his hands to his burning eyes, then lowered them, took a deep breath, and stretched out his arms, wanting to hug her, only to bump into the box again. He cupped her face in his hands, then hastily lowered them, peeling off his wet coat and draping it futilely around her shoulders. He cupped her face again, his thumbs rubbing her cool cheeks, his chest ablaze with fire. Her glassy eyes held him, only him.

"The bag was rotten... so I had to hold it..." she explained.

"I know."

"My luggage fell in front, I'll pick it up later."

"I know."

"I'm sorry, I should have been earlier..."

She didn't say anything else. His hand covered her lips. His hair was soaked, and raindrops fell into his eyes and on his lips.

"sorry."

His hoarse voice pierced through the wind and rain, sounding gentle and distressed.

"Why apologize?" she murmured.

"I don't know..." He said blankly, "I just want to apologize."

I'm sorry for not recognizing you right away. I'm sorry for not taking good care of you in England. I'm sorry for breaking my promise and making you sad. I'm sorry for making you travel a thousand kilometers on a rainy night. And for the countless moments in the future that will make you angry, I'm sorry.

Qin Tian sneezed and woke up. He took the cake box from her hand and hugged her into the house.

"Go take a shower quickly and use the hot water for a while longer." He let her go and turned the air conditioner to the maximum heat.

"You go wash up too."

"I'm going to pick up my luggage and will be right back."

She sneezed again and went upstairs to shower. He returned to the car and slowly searched along the mountain road. Two kilometers away, her suitcase lay beside a tree. He got out of the car and picked it up. The pain and sense of guilt returned. She had walked all this way in the rain.

He returned the same way, carried her luggage back to the room, and took a quick shower in the bathroom of his bedroom and dried his hair.

He went downstairs to heat a cup of milk, and then lingered at her door. He didn't want to be so obscene, but he couldn't help it. From time to time, he pressed against the door to listen to the sound, wondering when she would finish washing.

A moment later, there were sounds of movement in her room, and a buzzing sound. He knocked on the door, but no answer. He listened with bated breath, certain it was the hair dryer that made the knocking sound impossible. He hesitated, turned the doorknob, and pushed the door open.

Qin Tian saw him and stopped the hair dryer.

"I'll be right there."

He walked over, put down the hot milk, took the hair dryer from her hand, lifted a strand of her hair and started to blow dry it.

Qin Tian turned his head uneasily, wanting to take back control of the hair dryer, but he quickly moved out of the way.

"I can do it myself." She hesitated.

He didn't answer. His fingers threaded through her hair, the hot air from the hairdryer humming in her ears. She saw Tong Zhongyuan in the mirror. He lowered his head, his beautiful fingers combing through her hair with care, patient and gentle. The warm wind ruffled her heartbeat and reddened the back of her fair neck.

Time passed by minute by minute. She lowered her head and touched her hair.

"Okay."

"It's not dry inside yet." He was very persistent. He liked the feeling between his fingers at this moment.

She had thick hair, so it would take a long time to blow it through completely. She checked the time and saw that it would be midnight in 15 minutes.

"Eat the cake first. I'll blow dry it later."

Qin Tian walked downstairs and opened the cake box. Fortunately, the top of the box was made of transparent plastic. After the bumpy ride, the cake was still intact and undamaged. She took out the candles and counted them, then turned to ask Tong Zhongyuan.

"There are only ten candles in total. Should we light all of them, or just one?"

Tong Zhongyuan smiled and said, "Just one."

Qin Tian walked over to the stove, started a fire, lit a candle, and stuck it on the cake. Just as he was about to turn around and ask, the lights suddenly went out. Tong Zhongyuan had turned off all the lights in the room, leaving only this flickering light and the faint sunlight outside the window.

He sat down beside her, the firelight reflected on his face, casting a deep and shaky shadow like a movie story. The firelight reflected on her face, a graceful and full curve, a mysterious unknown.

"Do you want to... make a wish?" Her lips opened slightly.

"Um."

He closed his eyes.

Qin Tian stared at him. Only at this moment could she look at him without any scruples.

He opened his eyes.

"alright."

He blew out the candle. A wisp of smoke rose, the light went out, and the room fell into darkness.

She fumbled with her phone, stood up to turn on the light, and her wrist was grabbed.

"You didn't ask me what my birthday wish was." His voice came from the darkness.

"Birthday wishes...aren't they all kept secret?"

"Mine can be said."

She was silent and at a loss in the darkness, the throbbing sound of her heartbeat making itself felt in the silence.

He slid his hand down from her wrist and took her hand, whispering a request.

"Ask me."

Her heartbeat pounded in her eardrums. She didn't want to ask, she didn't want to know. But this moment, the final few minutes of his 30th birthday, was worth every wish fulfilled.

She asked softly, "What's your birthday wish?"

His breathing was clearly audible in the quiet night, his breath brushing against her lips.

"."

She was stunned. She had already asked. She took a breath, mustered her courage again, and asked, "What's your birthday wish..."

Her words were swallowed.

He reached out and cupped her face. Gently, silently, dreamily, his lips pressed against hers. Lingering and affectionate, gentle and passionate. A subtle, tingling sensation like an electric current coursed through her body the moment their lips touched.

She opened her eyes wide in the darkness, but could see nothing. His scent was overwhelming, the down on the tip of her nose soft and warm. The rain outside the window fell incessantly, the rustling white noise like an old gramophone running idle.
