Since none of them are good, what's there to be afraid of?
The fat man's tension eased slightly, and his gaze fell on the locked room 403 next door. His eyes darted around calculatingly, and he deliberately lingered in the same spot for a while before following the other person downstairs. As they walked, he tried to get closer to the other person by asking, "Brother, do you rent or buy this room?"
The new neighbor lowered his head slightly, obscuring his expression. He simply adjusted his mask, as if he had smelled something particularly disgusting, and shifted to the side before answering in a hoarse voice, "Is there something you need?"
"Well, I've actually been wanting to rent this room for a while, but I haven't been able to find the landlord."
The fat man rubbed his hands together. "So I wanted to know if this house is yours? If it is, could you...?"
"Can't."
The new neighbor gave a cold reply and continued walking forward.
"Hey, brother, brother, let's talk again."
The fat man, however, persisted in following behind.
"Let's talk this over. You don't seem like someone who lives here regularly. If it's possible, I can pay a little more rent—"
"Hey, brother!"
-
"Brother, there's movement!"
Behind the big tree, Officer Jin's words made Officer Zheng's expression freeze, and he subconsciously directed his colleagues behind him to take cover.
In their sight, an elderly scavenger dressed in tattered clothes, carrying a dirty plastic bag, squatted behind the railing of a billboard in the distance.
"It must be him. He was the one who came to make contact last time," Officer Jin said in a low voice. "This guy changed hands three times, selling the batteries in the next town for a high price. He even deliberately started a fire using old batteries, resulting in one death and one injury. There's no mistake about it!"
"He got away last time, but this time we caught him red-handed. I want to see how they'll try to deny it now!"
Officer Jin stared at the people over there, his eyes burning with excitement.
Although car theft and resale are not major cases, they are linked to another case of arson, which makes us more cautious.
What's more, this was his first time participating in such a field arrest operation from start to finish!
It sounds so interesting!
Of course, being able to catch the criminal is itself a meaningful thing.
And so, to Officer Jin's expectant gaze, their target, the fat man, finally appeared!
Just ahead of the fat man was a young man wearing a mask and a hat, and the two seemed to be talking as they walked.
Of course, from their angle, all they could see was the fat man chasing after the young man and saying something, while the young man's face was almost entirely shrouded in the shadows of his mask and hat, so no one knew whether the young man was responding or not.
However, this is enough to increase the suspicion surrounding this young man!
"It's that guy who drove the Jeep this afternoon!"
Officer Jin lowered his voice and said, "He definitely has a problem!"
The owner of the car was a middle-aged man, not the young man in front of us. We had initially guessed that he was just borrowing the car, but now that he was walking with the guy who stole the electric bike, it looked very suspicious.
—Could this car have been stolen too?
Officer Jin instinctively harbored reasonable suspicions.
Officer Zheng didn't think it was likely, but out of caution, he still instructed, "Be careful in a bit, and have him wait a while for questioning."
If there are no problems, then everything is fine; but if there are problems, then they cannot let it go.
"yes!"
Officer Jin nodded repeatedly, his gaze fixed intently on the young man.
Having just shaken off that annoying fat guy, Xiao He, who was about to speed up and move forward, subconsciously rubbed his arms.
Something feels off.
It seems like someone is watching us.
