Ten minutes later, Pei Zhi rode his electric scooter and quickly brought Pei Xi to the battlefield.
The lights illuminated the entire field as bright as day. Through the wire fence, you could see that the open-air court was divided into several sections, with groups of people gathered together. The sounds of slapping the ball could be heard from inside, along with occasional urgent shouts.
Pei Zhi stopped his electric scooter and immediately pulled Pei Xi through the gate.
Upon seeing the two, a similarly tall boy approached them. Pei Zhi immediately asked, "Shi Chen, what's going on?"
"We were fighting just now, and then those guys from No. 5 Middle School came and insisted that we make room for them."
Shi Chen had a pair of captivating eyes that seemed to hold affection for everyone he looked at, always with a smile in them. But now, the smile was gone from his eyes, clearly because those people from No. 5 Middle School were being unreasonable.
Upon hearing this, Pei Zhi's expression immediately turned cold, and he muttered under his breath, "They've given them too much face."
Shi Chen snorted, "It's been two years. They've lost to us in the inter-school basketball tournament every year. They've been annoyed with us for a long time."
"What can you do if you're not as good as others?" Pei Zhi chuckled and raised his eyebrows disdainfully. "What happens on the court is over on the court. You'll know your own worth after one game."
He glanced at the few people from No. 5 Middle School sitting not far away, then coolly looked away.
Shi Chen hummed in agreement, a smile returning to his peach blossom eyes. He looked at Pei Xi beside him and asked, "Why did you bring your sister along so late at night?"
“She’s scared being home alone.” Pei Zhi ruffled Pei Xi’s hair at the back of her head. “And let her admire her brother’s charm while we’re at it.”
Shi Chen ignored the second half of the sentence and said with a teasing look, "You really keep a close eye on her, like she's your own eyeball."
"Nonsense, why would I be looking at you if not her?"
Pei Zhi said irritably.
He frowned, looked around, and then his gaze suddenly stopped at a corner.
"Why is he here too?" Pei Zhi's voice was somewhat deep.
As soon as he finished speaking, Pei Xi's heart skipped a beat as if he had a premonition, and he looked in the direction Pei Zhi was looking.
Not far away, a tall, slender figure was leaning against the fence of the stadium.
He was wearing a plain black T-shirt, holding a basketball in his palm, then flipping his wrist to bounce the ball to the ground, and then lifting it up again, repeating this action.
His movements were slow, with a leisurely and deliberate ease. His profile was pale, and his eyes were lowered, making it impossible to discern his expression.
Pei Xi paused, his gaze fixed on the spot.
The next second, he suddenly turned his head and looked over.
