Chapter 101 How do you know someone like that?

A gust of wind blew by, dispersing the smoke, and Jiang Cheng subconsciously squinted.

Pei Xi wore a light blue down jacket and a beige woolen hat with a large pom-pom on the back that swayed gently as she walked.

Jiang Cheng felt his heart sway along with that furry thing.

He hadn't seen Pei Xi for several days.

The last time he saw her was during the final exams. He passed by her exam room and glanced at her from outside the door.

She was talking to her classmate at the time and didn't notice.

Every time he returned to school, he would glance at her from afar. She seemed to possess a magical power; he always felt that seeing her would make all the fatigue in his body disappear.

Pei Xi in front of him was like a sudden gift, and he even suspected that it was a hallucination caused by his dizziness.

Jiang Cheng kept his gaze fixed on her face, unwilling to look away for even a moment.

She seemed to be trying to hail a taxi, intently watching the passing vehicles, her brows slightly furrowed.

The streetlights weren't very bright, and the distance was just right for him to see her clearly.

Jiang Cheng stared blankly for a few seconds, then shifted his gaze to her side, and suddenly tightened his grip on the cigarette between his fingers.

The man beside her was not Pei Zhi.

The man was wearing glasses and was a little shorter than Pei Zhi. Just then, a car drove by close to the side of the road, and he immediately tugged at Pei Xi's sleeve, his movements and gaze very gentle.

Pei Xi looked up at him and said something, then smiled.

They seemed to know each other quite well.

Jiang Cheng stared intently, forgetting to smoke the cigarette between his fingers, which hung limply at his side, its scarlet flame burning little by little, getting closer and closer to his fingers.

They couldn't hail a taxi, and the two men were getting closer and closer to him. Jiang Cheng knew he should go back, but he didn't move; he just stood there quietly.

Until a burning pain shot through my skin.

Jiang Cheng's fingers trembled slightly before he came to his senses, stubbed out his cigarette, and threw it into the trash can.

He rubbed his temples.

He doesn't even know what he's doing.

My head, which had cleared up a bit, was hit with another dull ache. That damn cold medicine seemed to do nothing but make me sleepy.

Jiang Cheng let his hand fall limply, turned around, and with a serious expression, reached for the glass door of the internet cafe.

As he placed his hand on the doorknob, a hesitant voice suddenly came from behind him: "Jiang Cheng?"

Jiang Cheng paused, his back stiffened for a moment, before slowly turning around.

Then he met Pei Xi's surprised gaze.

He saw Pei Xi's brows and eyes suddenly relax, and then she said something to the person next to her, before quickly jogging towards him like a cheerful little bird.

The pom-pom on her hat swayed back and forth, and within seconds it was right in front of him.

"You're really here."

Pei Xi spoke lightly, her cheeks flushed slightly from the wind, but her eyes shone as she looked up at him.

Jiang Cheng took several seconds to process the fact that Pei Xi was so close to him, and then a few more seconds to figure out the meaning behind her short, seemingly random sentence.

She seemed to have thought of him.

And they wondered if he might be in this internet cafe.

Jiang Cheng's chest rose and fell deeply beneath his oversized hoodie, and he spoke softly, "Yes, I've been here these past few days."

Pei Xi said "Oh," then suddenly wrinkled her nose and said softly, "It smells like smoke."

Jiang Cheng paused, "...I just smoked one."

Knowing that Pei Xi didn't seem to like the smell of smoke, he added softly, "To perk you up."

Pei Xi frowned.

Jiang Cheng looked at her furrowed brows and subconsciously felt a little nervous.

He was about to say, "If you don't like it, I won't smoke," but before he could speak, he heard Pei Xi ask, "Are you sick?"

She noticed that Jiang Cheng's voice was a little hoarse and had a slight nasal tone.

Jiang Cheng was taken aback, then nodded. "Just a cold."

"Did you take your medicine?"

Jiang Cheng nodded, suddenly feeling somewhat fortunate that he had asked Zhu Yuan for the two cold pills because he was afraid of delaying his work.

He answered like a very obedient child, "I ate."

Pei Xi breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good."

Jiang Cheng gave a soft "hmm" in his throat.

After a few seconds of silence, Pei Xi smiled and spoke again, his eyes bright, "Actually, there's nothing to tell you. It's just that we haven't seen each other for so long, so I came to see you."

She was true to her word, her gaze lingering on his face without any attempt to hide it.

She thought to herself that Jiang Cheng's hair seemed to have grown a bit; he probably hadn't had time to get it cut yet.

Jiang Cheng met her gaze and blinked somewhat awkwardly.

He suddenly remembered that his hair looked messy because he hadn't rested well, and his eyelids were probably a little swollen too.

My lips are also a bit dry.

Jiang Cheng pursed his lips with some regret.

If he had known he would run into her, he should have looked in the mirror before coming out.

"Pei Xi, come quickly."

A gentle voice suddenly came from not far away, interrupting his thoughts.

Jiang Cheng turned his head and saw the man with glasses had stopped a taxi and was standing by the car, waving at Pei Xi while holding the door.

“Okay, coming right away,” Pei Xi said loudly.

After saying that, she waved to Jiang Cheng, "I'm leaving now, you go inside quickly, it's so cold outside."

Jiang Cheng nodded, then watched as she quickly ran to the car, turning back every few steps and waving at him, signaling him to go back.

Jiang Cheng didn't listen and stood there shaking his head at her.

Before getting into the car, Pei Xi frowned at him, feigning anger.

Then, the man with glasses got into the car and sat in the passenger seat.

As the car started, Jiang Cheng stared at the taillights as they gradually shrank until they disappeared into the traffic.

In the taxi, Lu Langxuan closed the door and told the driver to go around to the front to pick up Pei Zhi.

Pei Xi sent a message to Jiang Cheng, asking if he had returned. Just as the message was sent, Lu Langxuan's voice rang out: "Pei Xi, who was that person just now?"

“My friend,” Pei Xi replied, staring at his phone screen.

She was sitting in the back seat and didn't see Lu Langxuan in the front frown. He asked, "How do you know someone like that?"

Pei Xi was taken aback. "What kind of person?"

Lu Langxuan was silent for a moment, then stammered for a long time before finally saying with some difficulty, "It's just... he doesn't look like a good person, more like a thug."

He saw the person before Pei Xi even noticed him.

The man stood at the entrance of the internet cafe, smoking a cigarette. His eyes were cold and menacing, and he looked like someone you didn't want to mess with.

Lu Langxuan simply couldn't connect such a person with Pei Xi.

Pei Xi sensed the resistance and disdain in his tone, and his gaze suddenly turned somewhat indifferent.

She said, "He is a very good student, exceptionally talented, and a very nice person."

After a moment of silence, she added, "He's not a hoodlum."
