Chapter 109 Her world no longer revolved solely around him.

Given Pei Zhi's condition, the two of them couldn't play basketball anymore. Shi Chen put his arm around Pei Zhi's shoulder and they finished work early and went back to the teaching building.

Who knew that as soon as I stepped into the building, I would see something I shouldn't have seen.

Shi Chen was taken aback, and subconsciously pressed down hard on Pei Zhi's arm.

Two people stood at the corner of the stairs, one tall and one short. The boy had a cold look in his eyes, while the girl smiled sweetly. Who else could they be but Pei Xi and Jiang Cheng?

Almost simultaneously, Shi Chen and Pei Zhi stopped in their tracks and stood close to the wall.

Separated by a wall, the two men strained to listen to what was happening on the other side, like two paparazzi gathering evidence on the front lines.

Why did you buy me this?

"Mango pomelo sago, you like to drink it."

“I mentioned it briefly before, and you actually remembered it.”

"Yes, it's hot. Drink it while it's hot."

"good."

Jiang Cheng's voice was as deep as ever, but it was wrapped in an obvious gentleness.

Shi Chen turned his head and glanced at Pei Zhi's expression out of the corner of his eye.

Then he froze.

He noticed that Pei Zhi seemed unusually calm.

Shi Chen's original preparations to suppress Pei Zhi seemed to have no use at all.

Pei Zhi had absolutely no intention of rushing over.

He had his hands in his pockets, his head slightly lowered, his expression calm, and his chest rising and falling slightly, as if he were lost in thought.

For the first time in his life, Shi Chen felt that he might have misjudged Pei Zhi.

The scene of Pei Zhi's furious outburst that he had imagined was completely absent, as if the person on the other side of the wall was not Pei Xi at all.

Even the person in front of Pei Xi was Jiang Cheng.

Pei Zhi remained eerily calm.

Shi Chen frowned, and as his gaze shifted, he suddenly realized that he seemed to have misjudged something.

He underestimated Pei Zhi's feelings for Pei Xi, or perhaps he underestimated how good he was to Pei Xi.

In the past, he would have rushed forward in this situation long ago.

But he doesn't have it now.

When he discovered that Pei Xi seemed to like him too, he would no longer rush forward recklessly to protect Pei Xi in a fit of rage.

He just stood there quietly, not even wanting Pei Xi to notice him.

Even though he felt uncomfortable seeing this, he still couldn't bear to disrespect Pei Xi's thoughts.

Shi Chen thought that Pei Zhi's care and respect for Pei Xi completely exceeded his expectations. This was something he hadn't anticipated.

That kind of protection and cherishing was not out of immature possessiveness, but entirely out of his love for Pei Xi.

The sounds from the other side of the wall had disappeared. The two exchanged only a few words before Pei Xi took the milk tea and returned to the classroom.

Shi Chen glanced at Pei Zhi's face and called him softly, "Pei Zhi."

Pei Zhishen sighed and lowered his gaze. "You don't need to comfort me. Let me calm down."

Shi Chen hesitated for a second, then said, "Okay."

Then he walked away, leaving Pei Zhi standing there.

Pei Zhi felt a sense of relief as he leaned against the cold wall of the stairwell.

His chest heaved violently, his mind filled with Shi Chen's words from earlier: "You are just her brother."

He had just realized that the way Pei Xi looked at Jiang Chengshi... was very happy.

The joy I felt when I looked at him was the same, but there was something else different about it.

That was not the case when Pei Xi looked at him.

Pei Zhi felt a dull ache in his chest.

Realizing that Pei Xi likes someone else, that someone else will be with Pei Xi in the future, that a stranger will occupy an important part of her heart, that she will act coquettishly towards another person, that she will make her own demands, and that he will no longer be the first person she seeks protection and help from... all of this made him feel very bad.

It doesn't matter who this person is, or whether it's Jiang Cheng or someone else.

Pei Zhi realized that Pei Xi might not need him as much as she did when she was a child.

She has really grown up.

He was no longer the only person in her world.

He finds it difficult to resolve this matter all at once.

It was as if someone had suddenly struck him with a blunt instrument of violence. He couldn't find the culprit, and had nowhere to vent his frustration, so he could only silently endure it.

He wondered if every brother went through this feeling. Pei Zhi thought, "This must be really unpleasant. I wonder how others got through it."

He was probably the worst brother in the world. He felt a bit stunned by this sudden blow and couldn't recover for a while.

He sighed and closed his eyes tightly.

It wasn't until he got home from school that Pei Xi realized something was wrong with Pei Zhi today.

He spoke very little and ate very little, only taking a few bites before putting down his bowl.

His face was gloomy, quite different from the usually chatty Pei Zhi.

Pei Xi put down her chopsticks, hesitated for a moment, and asked with some concern, "Brother, what's wrong?"

Pei Zhi shook his head, lowering his eyes, "It's nothing."

He put his chopsticks on the table, stood up, and said, "I'm going back to my room now."

Then he slowly walked upstairs.

Pei Xi frowned as she watched his retreating figure.

For some reason, she felt that Pei Zhi's back view had a sense of loneliness, and even a hint of pitifulness.

She understood Pei Zhi; if he said it was nothing, then it was something.

If we really ignore him at this point, the consequences will be very serious.

Pei Xi quickly finished the rice in his bowl in a few bites, then got up and went upstairs.

She took some snacks she bought at the supermarket yesterday and carried them to Pei Zhi's room.

Pei Zhi hadn't locked the door; it was slightly ajar. Pei Xi gently pushed it open and found that he hadn't turned on the light.

The room was dark, with only the faint light from the streetlights outside shining through the window. Pei Zhi sat on the bay window, one leg propped up, his arm resting on it, looking out the window, lost in thought.
