Pei Xi decided to draw all the scenes from her memory.
She studied painting for many years, and the number of sketches and cartoon portraits she drew for Pei Zhi alone is too many to count on two hands.
Pei Zhi used to be her model quite a few times.
But since my memory is somewhat hazy, I always feel something missing when I pick up a pen.
She searched online for the site of the amusement park and planned to visit it herself, hoping to gain some inspiration.
The amusement park was built by a local real estate company and was the earliest amusement park in Yulin City. Later, the government re-planned the city layout and built new commercial districts and entertainment landscapes, so the park closed down and became a memory of the past.
The navigation system indicated that the abandoned site was located near an urban village.
Take bus number 21 for five stops, get off at the urban village stop, and then walk a few hundred meters.
On Sunday afternoon, Pei Xi packed her drawing tools and set off immediately, following the route on her phone.
Everything went smoothly at first, until they got off at the urban village. The winding alleys and the unreliable navigation system completely confused Pei Xi.
She stood in the dilapidated alleyway of the urban village, watching the navigation pointer veer left and right, feeling utterly overwhelmed.
The environment in the urban village was terrible, and every now and then some people who didn't look like good people would pass by. Pei Xi walked to the entrance of an alley, and a scantily clad woman looked her up and down, exhaled a puff of smoke, and asked with a smile, "Little sister, are you lost? This is not a place for a little princess like you."
Pei Xi was taken aback. She looked at the woman, who was dressed in a shady manner. Although she was young, she knew a little about the sordid dealings here.
She had never dealt with this kind of person before and didn't know what to say for a moment.
He just watched her in silence.
The woman also looked back at Pei Xi.
Although she was poor, she had a good eye for quality. Pei Xi was dressed in designer clothes, with a neat and exquisite cut, and the price was equivalent to two months of her living expenses.
A hint of envy and a touch of loneliness flickered in her eyes; perhaps this is what they mean by different fates for the same kind of people.
The woman took another drag of her cigarette. Through the smoke, she was surprised to see that Pei Xi's gaze towards her did not contain that condescending look, nor disdain or contempt.
There was just a slight sense of unease and disorientation.
There was even a touch of naive curiosity.
She exhaled the smoke heavily, thinking to herself, "She really is a little princess."
The woman forcefully pressed the cigarette, which was almost burning to her fingertips, against the wall, and the scarlet sparks instantly turned into a wisp of smoke.
She raised an eyebrow at Pei Xi and said, "Are you really lost? Where do you want to go? Maybe I can tell."
Pei Xi breathed a sigh of relief and gave a polite smile. "Hello, I'd like to ask about the original..."
Before he could finish speaking, a series of hurried footsteps came from behind him, followed by a gust of wind. Before Pei Xi could turn around, he heard a fierce voice shout, "Get the hell out of my way!"
In an instant, four or five burly men with fierce and thuggish appearances rushed into the alleyway, some even carrying weapons. They came aggressively and blocked the alleyway entrance, looking like gangsters seeking revenge, which was terrifying to look at.
Pei Xi had never seen anything like this before, and was so frightened that he quickly pressed himself against the wall.
She hadn't taken two steps when a strong force struck her arm, and she was pulled into a narrow alley.
"ah--"
Pei Xi gasped, goosebumps rising on his back in an instant. Before he could even utter a sound, a hand tightly covered his mouth.
"It's me."
A familiar, cold voice.
A familiar fragrance wafted into Pei Xi's nostrils. She looked up and saw Jiang Cheng's face.
The alley was narrow, and Jiang Cheng and she were very close. He was a head taller than her, and her face was directly against his chest.
Seeing that Pei Xi had calmed down, Jiang Cheng slowly released his palm and whispered again, "Don't be afraid, it's me."
Pei Xi nodded at him, the dry, warm touch on his lips was removed.
From the other side of the wall came the rough voices of several men, banging and clanging, accompanied by the alarming sound of banging on the door.
"Brother, this is Jiang Jin's house!"
"Fuck your mother, you filthy bitch, get out here!! Pay me back right now!!"
"You bastard, you better not let me catch you!"
"Don't be so ungrateful!!!"
The insults were incessant, and the banging on the door sounded like it was about to be smashed to pieces, making everyone's heart pound with fear.
Pei Xi instinctively flinched, a hint of fear flashing in his eyes.
The next second, a warm sensation suddenly enveloped both ears.
The insults and banging on the door were blocked out by my palm, instantly turning into a hazy mist.
Pei Xi was taken aback. She looked up and saw Jiang Cheng's lips moving—"Don't listen."
His hands seemed even warmer than before, and Pei Xi felt her ears burning.
In the narrow space between the two, the air stopped circulating, and the temperature gradually rose.
Even though there were menacing debt collectors just a wall away, her senses seemed to be completely captivated by Jiang Cheng's body temperature and scent. Watching his chest rise and fall, her heartbeat quickened uncontrollably.
The fingers near her ear twitched unconsciously, sending a slight tingling sensation through her.
Pei Xi took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.
After a few minutes, Jiang Cheng released her hand, looked down at her, and said, "They're gone."
Pei Xi nodded.
Whether it was Jiang Cheng's sweaty palms or her own nervousness, her ears seemed a little damp, and a gust of wind brought a slight coolness.
Pei Xi listened carefully, and indeed, it had become quiet on the other side of the wall; there wasn't a sound.
