She awkwardly raised her hand to touch her ear, then looked up at Jiang Cheng and asked, "What are you doing here?"
Jiang Cheng paused for a moment, about to speak, when suddenly a rumble of thunder came from the horizon, and huge raindrops pelted down in an instant.
"It's raining?!"
Pei Xi was startled by the sudden rain and looked around for a place to take shelter.
Jiang Cheng suddenly spoke up: "Let's go to my house."
Pei Xi was taken aback. Seeing the raindrops getting bigger and bigger, he nodded and said, "Okay, let's go quickly."
Jiang Cheng led her quickly out of the alley and turned into the alley next door.
After passing several two- or three-story buildings, we stopped at the doorway of a single-story house.
Two large characters were painted on the iron gate.
Pay back the money.
The fresh, vibrant red paint, with excess liquid slowly dripping down the door panel, emitted a pungent odor.
Pei Xi looked up at Jiang Cheng in surprise, and the next second, she saw him take out his key, unlock the door, and walk into the yard.
Just then, someone from next door came out to collect their laundry. They happened to see Jiang Cheng, glared at him, spat on the ground, and shouted as they collected their laundry, "What bad luck! What a terrible thing to do to have someone like that as a neighbor."
Jiang Cheng acted as if he hadn't heard and walked straight into the inner room.
Pei Xi suppressed his shock and quickly followed.
Standing under the eaves of the inner room, Pei Xi pursed his lips and remained silent.
Jiang Cheng noticed her silence, opened the door to the inner room, and said as he pushed the door open, "It's a debt my mother owes."
His voice remained cold and emotionless. Pei Xi paused for a moment, then softly hummed in agreement.
"Come in," Jiang Cheng said softly.
Before leaving, he tidied up the house briefly. Jiang Jin hadn't been home for the past few days, so the house was still clean and tidy.
It was just too rudimentary, without a single decent piece of furniture. The television was an old model from over ten years ago, and no one in the house usually watched it. The remote control was lost somewhere, and it was unclear whether it even worked properly.
Jiang Cheng glanced at Pei Xi, who was standing by the sofa, cautiously and curiously looking around the room.
There was no disgust or discomfort on her face.
Jiang Chengchui clenched and unclenched his fists at his side, a thin layer of sweat seeping from his palms.
“You can sit on the sofa.” He paused, then added, “It’s clean.”
"Okay, thank you." Pei Xi sat down on the edge of the sofa and slowly looked around the room.
In fact, as soon as she entered the house, she felt that the layout of the house looked familiar, as if she had seen it somewhere before.
But I can't remember it right now.
But she was certain that she had never been to this place before.
Jiang Cheng didn't sit on the sofa; he leaned against the door, looking down and idly scrolling through his phone.
Pei Xi was sitting in his home at this moment, and this realization made him feel somewhat absurd, even like he was dreaming.
That's how she saw his complete poverty.
Jiang Cheng's fingers unconsciously swiped across the phone screen, but his mind was already blank. Every tiny sound Pei Xi made could reach his ears, even the slight rustling of her clothes.
The room was unusually quiet.
Pei Xi clenched her hands somewhat awkwardly, then looked up at Jiang Cheng and saw his cold profile with a sharp nose.
Even leaning casually against the door frame, she still appeared tall and had incredibly good proportions.
Behind him was a curtain of rain, raindrops falling to the ground like broken beads, creating a thin mist, and the air was filled with the smell of earth.
Pei Xi watched this scene quietly, suddenly unable to look away.
He is really good-looking. The students of No. 1 Middle School are indeed very discerning. His appearance is certainly good enough to make him a formidable rival to Pei Zhi.
Even now, this scene is slightly better than Pei Zhi's.
He possessed a quality that Pei Zhi lacked, like winter snow on pine branches, cold and lonely.
The next second, Jiang Cheng looked over, interrupting her thoughts, "Why did you come here today?"
Pei Xi snapped out of his reverie, pondered for a moment, and tentatively asked, "Have you always lived here since you were a child?"
"Mm." Jiang Cheng nodded.
Pei Xi asked, "Did you know that there was an amusement park around here many years ago?"
Jiang Chengwei paused almost imperceptibly, then nodded. "I know."
Upon hearing this, Pei Xi's face lit up with joy, and he unconsciously stood up.
"I came here looking for that amusement park, but I couldn't find it; I got lost."
Her voice trailed off, as if she were a little embarrassed.
Jiang Cheng's Adam's apple bobbed, and he straightened up. "That amusement park... has been abandoned for many years. What are you going there for?"
“I know it’s abandoned, but I just want to go and see it.” Pei Xi shrugged and smiled. “After all, it holds memories of my childhood.”
She didn't notice that Jiang Cheng's body stiffened when she said those words.
There was a few seconds of silence. Jiang Cheng's voice lowered as he asked, "What memories?"
There was an emotion in his eyes, which seemed to be an expectation, or perhaps the exact opposite.
"It's all about the memories of playing with my mom, dad, and brother."
Pei Xi blurted it out.
She then asked, "Have you been there?"
Jiang Cheng looked at her, but did not answer for a moment.
He relaxed, his eyes revealing an inscrutable emotion.
After a while, he nodded. "Yes, I've been there."
Pei Xi's eyes lit up. She walked up to Jiang Cheng, looked up at him, and asked in a slightly coquettish and obedient tone, "If the rain stops later, can you take me there?"
