Jiang Cheng's unexpected words made Pei Xi's cheeks burn even hotter. She hadn't yet reached the point where she could ignore everyone else and couldn't treat Jiang Shuyu like air.
Pei Xi was surprised; she had no idea that Jiang Cheng had secretly cultivated to such a level.
His gaze almost made her feel that Jiang Cheng's next words would probably be, "Even I am yours."
Pei Xi coughed lightly, breaking the eye contact with him, and immediately changed the subject, saying, "Um... when is the game's release date? I'll try to finish it as soon as possible so you guys can have an easier time."
“January,” Jiang Shuyu said, “no later than January 15th.”
Pei Xi nodded; she had enough time now.
For the next period of time, Pei Xi also devoted herself to the intensive work with them. There were still many things to do during the final week of the semester, and she had to finish them before then. After two busy weeks, she finally submitted her manuscript successfully at the end of December.
Jiang Cheng and Jiang Shuyu have finished writing the core code; all that's left is testing.
Once the game's flow and compatibility are tested, and any bugs need to be fixed, it can be successfully released.
Pei Xi didn't understand these things and couldn't help at all. She was busy with her final exam week, memorizing questions until her head was spinning every day.
Pei Zhi was no less devastated; according to him, he had lost a lot of hair.
Fortunately, his hair was thick enough that losing a little wouldn't be a big deal.
The final exam review lasted from December to January, spanning the New Year. In early January, the students finally finished their exams, and the school officially began its holiday.
Pei Zhi bought tickets for the two of them to return to Yushi on January 15th.
On the day the game was released.
Before leaving, Pei Xi went to the studio.
Jiang Shuyu and Jiang Cheng were both sitting in front of the computer, monitoring for potential bugs so they could be fixed and optimized in a timely manner.
When Pei Xi came over, Jiang Shuyu chatted with her casually. He said that his relationship with his family had improved and he planned to go home for the Chinese New Year this year, and he would also bring his girlfriend.
He spoke of this with a beaming smile, and anyone could tell that the two were probably getting married soon.
Pei Xi repeatedly congratulated him.
After she finished speaking, she suddenly realized that Jiang Cheng was the only person left spending the Chinese New Year in the studio this winter.
She glanced at Jiang Cheng secretly, and suddenly felt that she couldn't bring herself to say goodbye.
It was as if she had abandoned Jiang Cheng here.
But she couldn't bring someone home for the New Year like Jiang Shuyu did, since they had no official status or relationship.
Jiang Shuyu has become very perceptive now. He could tell that Pei Xi had come to say goodbye to Jiang Cheng, so he quickly stood up and said, "Well, it's getting late. I'm going to pick up my girlfriend for dinner. You two can chat."
He put on his coat and walked out the door. The moment the door closed, a gust of cold wind blew in, and then there was a loud bang. Only Pei Xi and Jiang Cheng were left in the room.
Pei Xi was the first to speak. She sat in her seat, her hands resting on the table, leaning slightly to look at Jiang Cheng across from her. Then she blinked and whispered, "Don't worry, I'll miss you when I get back."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Cheng silently curled the corners of his lips. Why did he have to make a promise to him even about thinking about him?
But he knew it was more of a comfort than a guarantee.
She was telling him that he wasn't alone, that she was still thinking about him.
Seeing that Jiang Cheng remained silent, Pei Xi quickly asked, "And what about you?"
Jiang Cheng smiled and said, "Me too."
Pei Xi's eyebrows curved into a smile, revealing a satisfied expression.
“I’m fine, don’t worry about me,” Jiang Cheng assured her again.
He has always been alone since he was a child, and he is most used to living alone, so there is nothing to worry about.
But Jiang Cheng realized that he had overestimated himself.
After Pei Xi left, he suddenly realized that he wasn't as "unaffected" as he had imagined.
He suddenly felt very empty when she wasn't here every day.
The once bustling studio suddenly became deserted. The scene of the three of them working together here suddenly disappeared, as if something had ended. He was left alone in the small room, so quiet that even the sound of each keystroke became unusually clear.
The room was empty, and so was my heart.
The game has been released, and he's not as busy at work as before, which has led to him spending more time daydreaming each day.
Pei Xi's little succulents are still on the balcony, lined up obediently. Jiang Cheng often stares at them in a daze, and then, after snapping out of it, he reaches out and gently touches them, just like Pei Xi often does.
It felt like I wasn't touching a succulent, but rather the warmth left by Pei Xi's body.
He deeply understood what it meant to love someone so much that you love everything about them.
Whenever she sees anything related to Pei Xi, or anything she has ever touched, she thinks of her and can't help but reach out and touch it.
Her cat-head acrylic panel is still there. The cartoon German Shepherd and calico she once drew have long been erased. What is now displayed on it are the words she wrote before she left.
There are only four words: Eat well.
After she finished writing it, she solemnly placed it on his desk.
Jiang Cheng picked it up, his mind still filled with the image of her writing those words stroke by stroke before she left. Unconsciously, almost half a month had passed.
February in the Gregorian calendar marks the approaching end of the year.
The new year brings a vibrant and prosperous atmosphere, and the newly launched game is generating considerable daily revenue, living up to everyone's hard work.
Jiang Cheng never thought he could achieve instant success, but the benefits seemed to be greater than he had imagined. Looking at the daily revenue increasing in the backend, his long-tense nerves were finally relieved, but he always felt a sense of emptiness in his heart.
