Jiang Shuyu returned a week after the Chinese New Year.
The studio was now staffed by three people again. Pei Xi had very little to do, spending his days holed up in his seat watching movies and TV series, and sometimes drawing random things.
Most of the time it's Jiang Cheng's cartoon drawings.
Sometimes it would also involve her and Pei Zhi. She would draw a picture of the three of them playing together in her imagination. Pei Zhi would nag and criticize Jiang Cheng, while Jiang Cheng would look at him expressionlessly, which would make Pei Zhi very angry.
Pei Xi couldn't help but smile as he drew.
She felt that this would probably be their life from now on.
The holiday went by quickly; just a few days later, school was about to start.
Before the start of the semester, Jiang Cheng rented a house near the studio.
The process of renting a house was quick. The location was not far from the studio. Commercial apartments had poor sound insulation, so he chose a proper two-bedroom apartment in a residential community.
The day after renting the house, Pei Xi went to see it out of curiosity, and also to see if there was anything he needed to buy.
The house has a good layout and the decoration is modern and minimalist, but the house is very empty. Even though Jiang Cheng has brought in his daily necessities, it doesn't feel very homey.
Because he didn't have much to begin with.
As soon as he entered, Pei Xi looked around and asked, "Why did you suddenly decide to rent a place?"
Jiang Cheng replied, "Renting a house would be more convenient."
Pei Xi suddenly turned to look at him, "What's convenient?"
Meeting her gaze, Jiang Cheng: "..."
After a while, he said, "It's convenient...to rest."
He's not as busy as before, and living in the studio is quite inconvenient. His schedule doesn't allow him to stay in the dormitory, so renting a place is still very necessary.
Pei Xi smiled gently; she understood everything and was just teasing him.
She walked further inside and saw another bedroom, then turned to Jiang Cheng and asked, "But why are there two bedrooms?"
Jiang Cheng paused for a moment, then said, "All the apartments in this complex have this layout."
"And..." he paused, "you might need it occasionally in the future."
Pei Xi's eyes flickered, and she asked, "Occasionally?"
Jiang Cheng nodded and said seriously, "For example, when you and Pei Zhi were drunk."
Pei Xi: "..."
Then she saw Jiang Cheng suddenly smile, with a teasing tone.
Pei Xi glared at him, feigning annoyance.
Hmph, does he have a high alcohol tolerance?
However, she had never seen him drunk before.
I really don't know what he's like when he's drunk.
Pei Xi suddenly felt a little curious, wondering if he would ever see him again.
"Which room are you staying in?" Pei Xi glanced at the two rooms, looked up and asked him, "I'll go try out your bed and see if it's comfortable."
Jiang Cheng's expression suddenly froze.
A clear look of surprise flashed in his eyes.
The room fell silent for a moment. Pei Xi came to his senses and quickly waved his hand to explain, "No, what I meant was... the bed in your studio is very hard and uncomfortable to sleep on. My back aches a bit when I wake up in the morning."
"So...I'd like to take a look at it for you."
She knew he had no requirements for these details of daily life, so she wanted to give it a try for him.
But saying it out loud doesn't quite feel right...
Pei Xi pursed his lips and said seriously, "Don't misunderstand."
Jiang Cheng could barely contain his smile. He nodded and said, "Okay."
Then he pointed to one of the rooms, "I'll stay here."
Pei Xi said "oh" and then went in. He sat on the bed for a while. The mattress felt pretty good, not too soft and not too hard.
In short, it's much more comfortable than the bed in the studio.
Jiang Cheng just leaned against the doorway and watched her.
"How is it?" he asked.
Pei Xi nodded. "It's alright."
"Well, as long as you're satisfied," Jiang Cheng said, suppressing a laugh in his voice.
Pei Xi: "".
She glared at him, then stood up and slowly walked to the living room.
Jiang Cheng had almost finished tidying up yesterday, but since he really didn't have much stuff, the whole room was still unremarkable and quite monotonous.
Pei Xi looked around and noticed which parts needed to be added.
Then I silently kept it in my heart.
Her gaze fell on the table, and she suddenly paused, noticing something that looked familiar.
It is a pair of cups.
The little panda above is looking at her with an adorable expression.
Pei Xi gently picked it up, his fingertips touching the cool glass, and a strange feeling suddenly rose in his heart.
This cup was a housewarming gift she gave him after she made an excuse to visit him.
That same day, she said she wanted to take the entrance exam for Peking University with him.
Now, almost two years have passed, and they have indeed entered Kyoto University together. He has also rented a new house near Kyoto University.
Everyone says that time is a never-ending river, but they have never been swept away by the water.
Today, things remain the same, and so do people.
Pei Xi took a deep breath, and suddenly a warm body pressed against her from behind. Jiang Cheng hugged her from behind.
He leaned forward, his face close to her ear, and whispered, "You lied to me."
Pei Xi could clearly feel the vibration emanating from his chest. His voice was different from usual; it wasn't cold at all. It sounded like an accusation, yet it also carried a hint of grievance, like a subtle form of...coquetry.
Pei Xi suddenly smiled, tilting her head slightly as she asked him, "What did I lie to you about?"
Jiang Cheng took a deep breath.
After a moment of silence, he said, "I know, it wasn't Pei Zhi who sent you to Peking University."
Pei Xi was startled.
Jiang Cheng lowered his head even further, almost burying it in her neck, and whispered, "You said you came to Peking University, but it was actually for me."
It wasn't a question, but a statement, and his tone was unusually confident.
The warm breath sprayed onto Pei Xi's skin, making her feel a little numb.
Pei Xi paused for a moment, then raised his hand and gently touched Jiang Cheng's soft, black hair.
Jiang Cheng took a deep breath.
Pei Xi smiled, then turned around to face Jiang Cheng, cupped his face in her hands, looked into his slightly lowered eyes, and said softly, "I don't want you to give up better options for me. Since we're determined to be together, it must be that we both strive for greater heights, right?"
After a long pause, Jiang Cheng hummed in agreement.
Pei Xi laughed again, "Then if I lied to you, can you forgive me?"
She looked into Jiang Cheng's dark pupils and saw them tremble twice, then Jiang Cheng suddenly said, "I love you."
Pei Xi was taken aback, then smiled and said, "Why the sudden confession?"
"Because I love you." Jiang Cheng's tone was somewhat stubborn, and his expression was extremely serious.
Pei Xi raised her arm and wrapped it around his neck.
"I love you too," she whispered in his ear. "I love you too, Cheng."
