Chapter 154 This is the most worthwhile deal in the world

After the start of the school year, the weather gradually warmed up, spring was in full bloom, everything was reviving, and early summer had arrived.

The clothes people wear are getting lighter and lighter.

Pei Xi lived a life of going back and forth between school and studio every day. Based on the response after the game was released, she updated two more scenes and two more game characters. The daily active users of the game were increasing visibly every day.

Jiang Shuyu was overjoyed, saying that he would be perfectly content if things could continue like this.

After all, he's already earning much more than he imagined.

If things continue like this, it won't be long, maybe next year, before he can buy a decent house in Jingjiang.

This was something he wouldn't have dared to imagine a few years ago.

Such achievements far surpass those of the vast majority of their peers.

But compared to Jiang Shuyu's excitement, Jiang Cheng remained indifferent.

Because he knows that the little money he's earning now is really nothing.

At least, he is still far from achieving his goal.

In May, he counted the money on his card and then went to the bank.

That afternoon, he received a phone call from overseas.

Jiang Cheng answered the phone, and Pei Ruoyun's voice came through, still calm and crisp, but with a hint of amusement: "Little kid, are you planning to have your children pay for your mother's debts? I don't think I ever said you had to pay them."

Jiang Cheng tightened his grip on his phone and said in a low voice, "Just because you didn't say anything doesn't mean I shouldn't return it."

Jiang Jin's debts should indeed not be his responsibility to repay.

But Jiang Jin owes Pei Ruoyun something he must repay.

Although this amount of money was nothing to Pei Ruoyun, and he considered it a waste, he couldn't pretend that nothing had happened.

Pei Ruoyun seemed to chuckle on the other end of the line, her tone appreciative, "To be honest, your speed has somewhat surprised me."

After all, that's 500,000.

While it may not seem like much to her, 500,000 is an astronomical figure for students of that age.

Pei Ruoyun thought that Jiang Cheng's potential seemed to have exceeded her expectations.

Jiang Cheng paused for a moment; he didn't really want to accept Pei Ruoyun's praise.

Because in his view, this was already very slow.

After a two-second silence, he solemnly said in a deep voice, "Thank you."

The tone was very sincere; though it was only three words, it felt as heavy as a thousand pounds.

Upon hearing this, Pei Ruoyun's smile widened, "No need to thank me. After all, I said 'goodbye' to you back then, which shows that I believed in you, and you didn't disappoint me."

Pei Ruoyun paused for a moment, then said, "However, don't let my darling come to see you this year for the New Year, otherwise her brother will cause trouble. Besides, it'll be quite lonely with just the two of us at home."

Jiang Cheng was silent for a moment, and just as he was about to speak, he heard Pei Ruoyun say, "Let my darling bring you back."

Jiang Cheng was stunned.

After a long while, he finally spoke, his voice hoarse: "Okay."

"Then it's settled." Pei Ruoyun chuckled and hung up the phone decisively.

The next day, a weekend, Jiang Cheng booked a very early ticket and boarded a plane back to Yulin City.

He was all alone.

Jiang Cheng took a taxi from the airport and it stopped directly in front of Yushi Prison. He got out of the car.

The prison gates and outer walls stood tall, a somber gray color that created a suffocating atmosphere.

This is the first time he has been here since Jiang Jin was sentenced more than a year ago.

Because of the large amount involved, and because Jiang Jin had a prior criminal record, she was indeed sentenced to ten years, just as Pei Ruoyun had said.

This is the second year.

Jiang Cheng went in and completed a series of prison visit registration procedures. He was then led to the visiting room, where he sat down and waited quietly.

Separated by a transparent partition, the other side is the world of prisoners.

A moment later, with a whoosh, the inner door opened, and the prison guard led Jiang Jin out.

If he hadn't prepared in advance, Jiang Cheng would have almost not recognized the person in front of him as Jiang Jin.

She looked much more haggard than before, with sunken cheeks, lifeless eyes, and a withered appearance, like a walking corpse, exuding an aura of decay and impending death.

But the moment she saw Jiang Cheng, her eyes lit up, and she pounced on him like a wild beast, making a loud, screeching sound as she kicked up a chair.

The prison guard shouted, and Jiang Jin finally quieted down, looking at Jiang Cheng with a fierce gaze, as if she were an enemy.

"Pah, you dog, you bastard, what are you doing here! Are you happy to see your mother in jail?!"

"You beast, you wretched bastard!!"

Jiang Jin's mouth was full of foul language, her eyes were bloodshot, and she looked neither human nor ghost.

Jiang Cheng just watched her quietly through the partition, his gaze calm and unwavering, as if he were looking at a stranger.

Jiang Jin spat again, revealing that sinister and vicious look in her eyes, "I should have strangled you back then!"

Upon hearing this, Jiang Cheng smiled.

He said calmly, "Yes, but it's too late."

He added, "I'm doing very well now."

"What do you think you are?!" Jiang Jin shouted hysterically. "You're my child, Jiang Jin's child. Now that I'm like this, what kind of good thing do you think you'll be in the future?! Let me tell you, you're not going to have a good life!! I've already said, you were never a good person from birth, nobody likes you, don't even dream about it!!"

Jiang Cheng ignored him; he had heard these words since he was a child, and his ears were already calloused from hearing them.

He looked only into her eyes and said, "This is the first and last time I've come to see you. I will never come again."

"I came here today just to tell you that if you die inside, don't worry, I will buy you a burial plot as a final act of filial piety."
