Chapter 155 I should have recognized you sooner

While shopping, Pei Xi couldn't resist buying Jiang Cheng two more outfits.

This time, however, she didn't copy Pei Zhi's outfit; she put together all of them herself.

She felt like she was getting a little obsessed with playing dress-up games with Jiang Cheng.

I guess I've seen too many of his monotonous outfits before, so now I'm getting a bit of revenge.

After having dinner with Pei Zhi, Pei Xi, for convenience, took the newly bought clothes and delivered them directly to Jiang Cheng's rented apartment.

On the first day of renting the apartment, Jiang Cheng gave her the key, and she could come and go as she pleased.

After entering the house, Pei Xi put his clothes on the floor and then slumped on the sofa to rest for a while.

She was probably too tired from shopping, because she actually fell asleep on the sofa without realizing it.

The moment she entered the dream, Pei Xi still retained a conscious awareness. She suddenly realized that she hadn't dreamed in a long time.

The scene in my dream was familiar; it was an amusement park.

Winter is very, very cold; even the biting smell of the cold air when you breathe it into your nostrils is incredibly clear.

The amusement park was crowded, mostly with parents and children. The kids were chattering away, and the place was bustling with activity.

The colorful carousel is the most popular attraction among children, with long queues forming in front of the railings.

Not far away, beyond the dense crowd of people, a large cluster of colorful balloons of various shapes floated in mid-air.

Pei Xi was taken aback; she realized that this was her perspective.

And it was her when she was a child.

Because her line of sight can only reach an adult's thighs or waist.

"Mom, I want to buy that balloon." It was Xiao Peixi speaking, pointing to a cluster of balloons floating not far away.

"Okay, let your brother take you."

It was young Pei Ruoyun, wearing that belted down jacket and her father's plaid scarf around her neck.

"Let's go." Xiao Peizhi reached out and took her hand.

Two tiny figures weaved through the dense queue toward the balloon stall not far away.

Upon closer inspection, Xiao Peixi was surprised to discover that the "stall owner" holding the balloons was actually a child about the same age as them.

He was hanging his head, curled up in a ball, seemingly very cold.

Xiao Peizhi spoke first: "Hello, we'd like to buy a balloon."

Then the boy raised his head.

For a moment, Pei Xi seemed to catch his breath.

Through Xiao Peixi's eyes, she saw the boy's dark eyes.

The familiar indifference, the familiar eyes, the familiar face.

Pei Xi's heart suddenly raced, and his breath seemed to be caught in his throat.

"Which one do you want?" she heard the boy ask.

She heard him speak for the first time in her dream.

The voice was young and innocent, belonging to a little boy.

Xiao Pei Zhi nudged Xiao Pei Xi, "Pei Xiao Xi, you choose one."

“Okay.” Xiao Peixi looked up for a moment, then pointed to the upper right corner and said, “Give me the pink one.”

The boy nodded, took out the pink one, and handed it to her.

The moment he handed it over, Xiao Peixi was suddenly startled, "Your hand...."

Little Pei Zhi, who was standing next to him, glanced at it and immediately frowned and blurted out, "How scary!"

Then she saw the boy's hand seem to freeze for a moment, and he subconsciously tried to put his hand into the short sleeve, but then suddenly remembered that the clothes did not fit, and he became embarrassed and helpless.

"Little brother, does it hurt?" Xiao Pei Xi frowned with concern. She took off her own gloves and stuffed them into the boy's arms. "I'll give you my gloves, but they're girl's style, so please don't mind."

Then she took the balloon and turned to leave with Xiao Peizhi.

Pei Xi's perspective remained focused on the little boy.

She saw the boy put on gloves, and he carefully put his hands inside, curiously moving his fingers as if examining some rare treasure.

Then he looked up and stared intently at the backs of the two little figures. After a while, he took off his gloves, stroked the fur on them with care, and carefully put them into his pocket.

Not far away, Xiao Peixi and Xiao Peizhi returned to their parents with balloons. Then, their father handed a camera to a staff member, saying, "Hello, could you please take a picture of our family?"

They stood in a row, and with a click, the camera captured the moment.

No one noticed that the boy selling balloons was also looking this way, and he and his family of four were frozen in the corner of the photo.

Pei Xi woke up in an instant.

She sat up from the sofa, her hands trembling uncontrollably at her sides, her eyes filled with disbelief.

Pei Xi took a deep breath, desperately trying to control his pounding heart, and subconsciously glanced out the window.

It was completely dark outside, with only a faint moonlight filtering through the window inside.

Pei Xi suddenly felt as if she were on a vast lake, empty and boundless. The dream dragged her memories back to many years ago, and even many details she had never noticed before were so clear.

It was so clear that I felt somewhat lost and confused.

As if suddenly remembering something, she got up abruptly, without even putting on her slippers, and ran straight into Jiang Cheng's bedroom.

Standing at the doorway, she looked around and slowly walked towards his wardrobe.

She slowly opened the cabinet door.

Then she saw a cardboard box at the very back.

As if she had a premonition, she reached out and took out the box, her fingertips trembling uncontrollably.

The moment I opened the box and saw what was inside, a surge of heat welled up in my chest, traveling straight to my nose and eyes. With a soft plop, a drop of water fell onto the lid.

Just then, the sound of a door opening was heard outside.
