Then, looking into Pei Xi's resentful eyes, he raised his hands in a gesture of surrender, "I wasn't pretending to be asleep, it's just that Pei Zhi was shouting at you too loudly and woke me up."
“Really,” he added, his tone utterly sincere.
Pei Xi paused.
She always remembered the day she first received the milk from him; that's when she knew she liked him.
But perhaps, long, long ago, when she unconsciously placed that can of coffee on the corner of his table, she had already fallen for him without realizing it.
Pei Xi withdrew her hand, handed the milk to Jiang Cheng, and deliberately instructed him, "Open it for me, I'm thirsty."
Jiang Cheng obediently took it, slipped his fingertip through the pull ring, and used his slender fingers to open it with a little force.
Then it was handed back.
Pei Xi gulped down several mouthfuls.
"Is it sweet?" Jiang Cheng asked with a smile.
Pei Xi nodded, a trace of moisture still remaining on his lips.
"Would you like to try some?" she asked.
Before Jiang Cheng could react, she leaned in and kissed his lips.
"Is it sweet?" Pei Xi asked with a smile as well.
Jiang Cheng swallowed hard and said in a low voice, "I couldn't taste it."
"Baby, let me have another taste." With that, he leaned closer to Pei Xi, cupped her chin in his palm, and kissed her lips.
He kissed her a little hard, his lips and tongue opening her mouth so she could taste the sweet flavor she wanted.
During a pause to catch his breath, Pei Xi whispered close to his lips, "And this time? Is it sweet?"
Jiang Cheng gave a deep "hmm," then brought her closer to his lips, not wanting to say a word.
It's more than just sweet.
It's so sweet it warms my heart.
