Chapter 166 So-called Fate

After Jiang Cheng got into the car, they both tacitly avoided mentioning what had just happened.

The three of them went to the supermarket first.

Although Pei Xi and Pei Zhi said that Pei Ruoyun didn't care about these formalities, Jiang Cheng still insisted on going. Pei Zhi happened to be planning to buy some ingredients for the New Year's Eve dinner, so the three of them spent another half a day shopping.

The last things I bought were almost overflowing the trunk.

After putting his things away, Pei Xi went to the back seat and sat down with Jiang Cheng.

Pei Zhi gripped the steering wheel and feigned anger, saying, "So you two really think I'm your driver?"

Pei Xi smiled ingratiatingly at him, "I'm just talking to Jiang Cheng for a bit."

Pei Zhi raised an eyebrow and fastened his seatbelt. "Alright, all passengers, please fasten your seatbelts. For the rest of the journey, driver Pei will be at your service."

Pei Xi suddenly smiled. "Okay, Master Pei, let's go."

"Okay."

Pei Zhi stepped on the gas, the car started, and drove directly into the traffic on the road.

In the back seat, Pei Xi held Jiang Cheng's hand and asked him softly, "You're going to see my mother soon, are you nervous?"

Jiang Cheng answered truthfully, "A little."

"Only a little?" Pei Xi asked with a smile.

Jiang Cheng paused for a moment, then said, "...add a little more."

Pei Xi chuckled.

She took Jiang Cheng's arm and leaned against him affectionately, saying, "My mother is a very nice person. The fact that she let you come means that she already approves of you."

"Besides, my brother and I will speak up for you later." Pei Xi looked at Pei Zhi, who was driving in front. "Brother, right?"

Driver Xiao Pei, who was suddenly called out, was speechless.

He glanced at the rearview mirror and then said in a low voice, "Of course, don't worry, my mom doesn't eat people, she has a good temper."

Pei Xi nodded in agreement and hummed twice, "Yes, the one with the worst temper in my family is my brother."

Pei Zhi: "................."

Jiang Cheng silently curled the corners of his lips.

Pei Xi chuckled and then acted coquettishly towards Pei Zhi, "Brother, I was just kidding."

Pei Zhi smiled as he looked at the approaching gate of the residential complex and said softly, "We're here."

Upon arriving at the gate, the security guard allowed the vehicle to pass, and Pei Zhi drove through the gate.

After parking the car, Pei Zhi and Jiang Cheng, carrying their hands full of things, opened the door and went inside with Pei Xi.

After changing their shoes, Pei Xi went inside and called out to the house, "Mom, we're back."

Then, footsteps soon came from upstairs. Pei Ruoyun came down the stairs, wearing plastic gloves on both hands. Her appearance was not as refined and distant as before, and a few strands of hair fell down her temples, as if she had just finished working.

As she walked, she looked down at the three people and said, "You're back pretty quickly. I was cleaning the study upstairs and didn't hear you open the door."

As she took off her gloves, she walked up to the group. Jiang Cheng greeted her softly, "Hello, Auntie."

Pei Ruoyun nodded slightly. She looked Jiang Cheng up and down, patted him on the shoulder, and said with a smile, "Little boy, you've matured."

Pei Ruoyun added, "He's also become more handsome."

Jiang Cheng pursed his lips, unusually flustered, unsure of what to say. Before he could speak, Pei Zhi asked from the side, "Am I as handsome as you?"

Pei Ruoyun glanced at Pei Zhi and said calmly, "You should ask your sister this question, not me."

Pei Zhi: "..."

Pei Xi couldn't stop laughing.

Pei Zhi and Pei Ruoyun's banter instantly lightened the atmosphere, eliminating the awkwardness and unfamiliarity of their first meeting.

There is probably something unseen and intangible connecting people in this world; it's a wondrous magnetic field.

Many people also call it fate.

The group sat down on the sofa, and Pei Xi looked around and asked, "Where's Aunt Li? Has she left?"

Pei Ruoyun nodded, "Your brother is going to cook the New Year's Eve dinner tomorrow, and the house is almost cleaned up, so I gave Li Ma a day off early."

Pei Xi nodded and asked, "So, what are we having for dinner tonight?"

“Ask your brother.” Pei Ruoyun glanced at Pei Zhi.

Pei Zhi raised an eyebrow. "With Chef Pei here, how could you possibly go hungry?"

After saying that, he looked at Jiang Cheng and said meaningfully, "But I need someone to help me."

Pei Ruoyun chuckled upon hearing this, "It's Xiao Cheng's first time here, and you're already making him do the work."

Pei Zhi snorted and said, "He's not a guest."

There aren't that many rules.

Pei Xi suddenly remembered something, and she looked at the group and said, "Jiang Cheng can cook too, we can have him show us his skills later."

Jiang Cheng nodded and smiled, "Okay."

Pei Zhi grunted, "That's perfect, then I won't have to worry about the New Year's Eve dinner myself this year."

Pei Xi was explicitly forbidden from entering the kitchen, and Pei Ruoyun was a terrible cook, so he always ended up having a very difficult time cooking.

This year I finally have some help.

Well, it might not just be this year.
