Scattered light rain is expected tonight, with moderate rain in some areas, accompanied by a drop in temperature...
A young man with a buzz cut sat in the driver's seat, turned off his phone, and the AI voice broadcast of the weather forecast was cut off. He opened the door, got out of the car, and slammed the door shut.
It was a somewhat dilapidated Volkswagen Santana. He stood by the car, straightened his slightly wrinkled jacket in front of the window, and then strode towards the entrance of the police station.
As soon as I stepped onto the stairs, a middle-aged man walked towards me. He had gray hair at his temples and was carrying a large cup of strong tea. He looked unkempt.
Upon seeing the young man, he immediately waved his hand, put his arm around his shoulder, and led him outside. "Apprentice, well, this is perfect. Don't rush off work yet. Drive with your master right now."
The young man frowned, a serious look flashing in his peach-blossom eyes. "Another case?"
The middle-aged man shook his head and sighed, "No, my dog is lost."
youth:"......"
He hesitated for a moment and asked, "Do I need to come with you for this?"
The middle-aged man chuckled, "No, I just had a few drinks at lunch, so I can't drive."
As he spoke, he quickened his pace, walked to the car, opened the door, and said to the passenger seat, "Xiao Shi, hurry up, my daughter has raised that dog for several years, and she's almost crying from worry."
Shi Chen nodded: "...Okay."
Then he got into the car, started the engine and stepped on the gas with practiced ease, and drove the car directly out of the police station gate and onto the main road in front of the gate.
In the spring, he applied to the police station in Jingjiang and unexpectedly got hired.
He secretly wanted to be away from home. After his father found out about this, he scolded him a few times, but then he didn't say anything more.
In the past, his father would never have let him go so easily.
The reason his father agreed so easily is obvious: when he was a junior in college, his father's mistress gave birth to a younger brother.
Shi Chen didn't feel anything, but he admired his father. At such an advanced age, he was still as vigorous as ever.
The somewhat eccentric middle-aged man sitting next to him was the mentor assigned to him by his superiors after he came to the police station.
The officer who specifically mentored him was a veteran criminal investigator with over twenty years of service. His surname was Yan, and everyone called him Lao Yan.
It's quite a distance from the police station to Lao Yan's house, taking about twenty minutes no matter how you drive. After driving for a while, Lao Yan lowered his head and gulped down several mouthfuls of tea. Suddenly, he turned his head and looked at Shi Chen, who was driving attentively, and asked, "Xiao Shi, you've been at the station for almost two months now. There's something your master has been wanting to ask you for a long time."
Shi Chen chuckled lightly, "Master, if there's anything you need, just ask."
Old Yan clicked his tongue, then grinned, his face crinkling with laughter, and asked him, "Do you have a girlfriend? If not, your master will introduce you to one."
Shi Chen suddenly laughed.
The tendency for middle-aged people to enjoy matchmaking is probably a universal phenomenon across the country.
He stared at the rear of the car in front of him and answered truthfully, "No, there really isn't."
Then he raised an eyebrow and asked, "Which family's daughter are you planning to introduce to me, sir?"
"I think my daughter is pretty good," Old Yan said with a smile.
Shi Chen: "?"
After a moment of silence, he said, somewhat amused and exasperated, "Master, please don't joke with me."
"I'm not kidding." Old Yan clicked his tongue and frowned. "Although my daughter looks like me and isn't particularly outstanding, her personality is absolutely top-notch, no doubt about it."
Upon hearing this, Shi Chen replied with a tone that was half serious and half amused: "You flatter me, madam. I can't possibly ruin your daughter's life."
Old Yan listened without taking it seriously.
She just felt that the young man was shy and was politely declining her offer.
He had been observing this young man for quite some time. He found him to be handsome, quick-witted, and, most importantly, humble and eager to learn. He was quite satisfied with him.
"When we get to my house, you'll meet my daughter. You might just hit it off," Old Yan chuckled again.
Shi Chen raised an eyebrow, suddenly realizing what was going on.
Whether his master had actually been drinking or not, he didn't know, but he was certain that his master's purpose in sending him on this trip was impure.
So Shi Chen made a plan in his mind. After arriving at the destination and putting Lao Yan down, he immediately slipped away.
We will absolutely not give Lao Yan any chance to act as a matchmaker.
After driving for a while, he stopped by the roadside, took out his phone, and made a call. "What's up?"
"What else can I do?" A resentful voice came from the other end of the phone.
"Still in the lab?" Shi Chen asked with a smile.
"Hmm." The other side uttered a syllable in a tone that was neither loud nor soft, neither reluctant nor sarcastic.
That year, everyone around him graduated one after another. Even Shi Chen was now wearing a police uniform and looked quite respectable. But he, a poor medical student, still had to stay in the lab doing experiments.
Pei Zhi was very unhappy.
Shi Chen suppressed a mocking laugh, not wanting to add fuel to the fire. He coughed lightly, "Well, I got off work early today, how about we get together tonight?"
“Sure,” Pei Zhi replied lazily. “I’ll bring Pei Xi along.”
Shi Chen clicked his tongue, somewhat surprised, "Don't these young lovers need to enjoy some alone time?"
Pei Zhi chuckled, "Jiang Cheng is very busy right now."
Upon hearing this, Shi Chen pondered for a moment and said, "I heard he started a company?"
Pei Zhi: "Mm."
Speaking of this, he felt a little resentful again.
Jiang Chenglian has become a boss, while he's still a student.
This is outrageous!
Shi Chen suppressed a laugh and said, "I think you should take it easy. I remember you're in an eight-year program. Maybe in four years, others will be big CEOs, while you'll still be a student."
