Chapter 170 is all fake.

Inside the room, Pei Xi leaned against the bed and heard Jiang Cheng's faint footsteps coming from outside. He went back and forth several times, probably hanging up clothes.

After she finished drying the clothes, footsteps gradually approached and stopped at her door.

Then, after a few seconds of silence outside the door, footsteps sounded again.

He walked away again.

Pei Xi could almost picture the conflicted expression on his face when he put his hand on the handle, and couldn't help but want to laugh.

The next second, the phone on the bed suddenly chimed, announcing a message.

Pei Xi picked it up, looked at the message on it, and burst out laughing.

Give me some time to prepare properly.

Pei Xi couldn't help but smile.

What is that?

They're clearly separated by a door, yet they insist on talking on their phones.

There's also preparation... Hmm, we definitely need to prepare some things; we can't be so hasty.

Just as Pei Xi was about to reply, she saw his next message arrive.

"Besides, today isn't a good time; you have class tomorrow."

Pei Xi paused.

What does "I have class tomorrow" mean?

Suddenly, the image of Jiang Cheng's exceptionally gifted body parts popped into Pei Xi's mind, and she felt... what he said actually made sense.

We have to choose a time when there's a holiday.

So she typed back, "Okay, then I'd like to have egg noodles tomorrow morning, the kind with a fried egg on top."

After waiting for two seconds, she received Jiang Cheng's reply: "Yes, Princess."

Pei Xi suddenly smiled.

She glanced at the time on the screen, pressed the record button, and sent a voice message: "It's getting late, goodnight, boyfriend."

In the room next door, Jiang Cheng was also leaning against the headboard, listening to the voice message coming from his phone, and couldn't help but smile.

Then he typed back: "Goodnight, baby."

It also comes with a cute emoji.

In order to chat with Pei Xi, he now has a lot of emojis collected, and he is no longer the person who only uses the system's default emojis.

After waiting for a while without receiving a reply from Pei Xi, Jiang Cheng figured she must be asleep, so he turned off the light and got into bed.

He frowned, stared at the ceiling, and pondered carefully what he had just said.

Enduring it all might not be a good thing for Pei Xi, because this kind of thing can bring him happiness, and she can too.

Moreover, Pei Xi can only marry him, and will only marry him.

Therefore, he can make Pei Xi happy sooner.

This is his duty.

Jiang Cheng made a decision in his heart: next time... he would make thorough preparations and would not let Pei Xi down.

Thinking this, he turned over, picked up his phone, and started setting the alarm.

There are no noodles left in the refrigerator, so I need to get up a little earlier tomorrow morning to go to the supermarket to buy some.

He set the time, placed his phone beside his pillow, and then closed his eyes to sleep.

Perhaps because he was tired from running around all day, he soon drifted off to sleep without realizing it.

A small gap was left in the curtains, and the cool moonlight streamed in from outside, making the room hazy and indistinct, where the outline of the bed could be vaguely seen.

Jiang Cheng frowned, seemingly not sleeping soundly. His chest rose and fell under the covers, and his breathing was somewhat rapid.

After a while, he suddenly woke up and sat up abruptly in bed.

His forehead was damp with sweat, and Jiang Cheng's lips were pale. He was stunned, recalling the dream he had just had, clutching his chest and unconsciously murmuring, "Xixi..."

His fingertips trembled, and his eyes held a lingering sense of unease.

What was he dreaming about just now?

In the exquisitely decorated princess room, Pei Xi sat on the edge of the bed looking at him, her expression as cold as if she were a stranger.

He gently stroked her face and told her that he wanted her to stay with him forever.

Then her gaze towards him suddenly changed; her beautiful almond-shaped eyes filled with resistance, unfamiliarity, fear, anger, and pity...

There was no love involved.

Jiang Cheng clutched the clothes in front of his chest tightly, crumpling his pajamas into a ball.

His chest began to heave violently; just recalling that scene made him feel as if his heart was being stabbed by countless sharp knives.

Jiang Cheng raised his hand and rubbed the corner of his eye hard with his palm. In the hazy moonlight, a wet patch was reflected in his eye.

He sat on the bed, looking somewhat bewildered.

Why would he dream of such a scene for no reason...?

Even though nothing happened in the dream, why did it feel so real, as if he had actually experienced it himself...?

It felt as if something had seized his heart. Jiang Cheng desperately tried to stop himself from thinking about it and calm his breathing.

It's fake, it's fake, it's all fake.

Pei Xi would never look at him with that kind of gaze.

Never.

Jiang Cheng took a deep breath, then suddenly threw off the covers. Without even putting on slippers, he strode barefoot to Pei Xi's room door.

He tried turning her doorknob, and unexpectedly, the door opened directly.

She didn't know when she had unlocked it.

Jiang Cheng walked gently to her bedside. Pei Xi was sleeping peacefully, her breathing even and deep.

His gaze darkened, and he knelt down, looking down at her peaceful sleeping face. After a while, he reached out and gently touched her face with the back of his fingers.

It is warm and soft.

The moment he felt her body temperature, his knuckles involuntarily curled up, and his anxious heart instantly calmed down a little.

Jiang Cheng took a deep breath, withdrew his hand, his fingertips trembling uncontrollably, and then clenched his fist.

He looked intently at Pei Xi, his eyes filled with a swirling vortex of emotions, a mixture of joy, unease, and vulnerability, his eyes as dark as ink.

The Pei Xi before her was the real Pei Xi. When she woke up, she still looked at him with eyes full of love.

That must be it, Jiang Cheng thought.

-

When Pei Xi woke up the next morning, the sun was already shining brightly outside the window.

She stretched, loosened her stiff muscles, and then got out of bed to put on her shoes.

Stepping outside, I saw Jiang Cheng making breakfast in the kitchen. His broad shoulders and narrow waist, along with an apron tied around his waist, made him a sight to behold, a perfect blend of domestic charm and practicality.

Pei Xi was momentarily infatuated with Jiang Cheng, and before Jiang Cheng noticed her, she quickly went to the bathroom to wash up.

As soon as she walked in, she saw the empty towel rack and suddenly remembered that Jiang Cheng had probably left her towels on the balcony to dry last night.

Pei Xi walked to the balcony and saw the familiar pink towel, which he took off the clothes rack.

I squeezed it in my hand; it was dry and soft, and had a slightly fresh, washed scent.

Just as he was about to leave, Pei Xi's gaze suddenly stopped.

Two cigarette butts lay in an abandoned flowerpot nearby.

It looks new, like it was just smoked recently.
