While eating, Pei Xi poured out her heart about her dream, and she found that Jiang Cheng's speed in accepting such bizarre things was a bit beyond her expectations.
He calmly accepted this strange situation.
Pei Xi thought to himself, "As expected of Jiang Cheng, he saved me a lot of trouble explaining."
She felt an indescribable sense of satisfaction that she could now openly discuss this secret at the dinner table, after carefully keeping it for so long.
As she was talking, she suddenly remembered something, smiled at Jiang Cheng, and said, "I want to ask you a question."
"What?" Jiang Cheng asked.
Pei Xi asked with some curiosity, "If you find out I don't like you, will you really do what you did in the dream? Want to lock me up?"
Jiang Cheng was taken aback, and the room fell silent.
He did not answer immediately.
What if Pei Xi one day stops liking him...?
He had never imagined this.
He dared not imagine what he might do if that day ever came.
Pei Xi gently bit her chopsticks between her teeth, quietly watching him.
Silence itself is an answer.
Jiang Cheng doesn't lie.
He wouldn't say anything he thought would hurt her.
He will only remain silent.
Pei Xi thought of Jiang Cheng from her dream. She hadn't thought of him for a long time and thought she had forgotten him. But just now, when she recalled him, she realized that she remembered every move and every expression of his.
It's all so vivid and clear in my mind.
Because that was also the living, breathing Jiang Cheng.
Because he liked her, he couldn't help but want to possess her; yet because he couldn't bear to part with her, he ultimately respected her wishes and let her go.
This is Jiang Cheng.
This is what Jiang Chenghui does.
A few seconds of silence filled the room. Jiang Cheng seemed to chuckle softly, with a hint of self-mockery. He looked at her and asked, "If I really were like in your dream, would you be afraid?"
He couldn't deceive Pei Xi; the person in his dream was the real him.
So he wanted to confirm it again.
Is she actually afraid of him?
Meeting his gaze, Pei Xi shook his head.
She put down her chopsticks, thought for a moment, and then said, "At first, I was indeed a little scared of that dream. But when I actually met you, I wasn't scared at all. Instead, out of some inexplicable instinct, I trusted you a lot."
Pei Xi hesitated for a moment, then said in a very serious yet innocent tone, "Does this prove that we are... a match made in heaven?"
Jiang Cheng's breath hitched.
He stared intently at Pei Xi's face, at her amber almond-shaped eyes, in which his image was reflected.
His hands, hanging under the table, were trembling uncontrollably.
They are a match made in heaven.
They are truly a match made in heaven.
It was ordained by heaven, inseparable, unique, a match made in heaven.
They would have those dreams because they were born to be together.
Jiang Cheng's eyes darkened. He looked intently at Pei Xi, and after a few seconds, he asked in a low voice, "Baby, after we finish eating, let's go back, okay?"
Pei Xi was startled.
Jiang Cheng then said, "You have a day off tomorrow."
Pei Xi's expression deepened with shock.
Then it suddenly dawned on her—how did we end up talking about this all of a sudden...?
However, it seems like it's not impossible today.
Anyway, she was already prepared.
So she looked into Jiang Cheng's eyes and tentatively nodded, "Okay."
Jiang Cheng smiled and reached out to touch her hair, his eyes filled with tenderness, yet also seemingly suppressing a heavy, dark desire.
On the way back, Jiang Cheng drove faster than usual.
His profile was hard and cold, and he spoke less than usual, as if he was enduring something.
As he passed a supermarket, he pulled over and turned to look at Pei Xi. "I'm going down to buy something."
Pei Xi nodded, "...Oh, okay."
He moved quickly; less than two minutes after getting out of the car, he strode back into it.
Then the car continued speeding along until it reached the apartment building where he lived.
After parking the car, the two took the elevator upstairs.
Inside the narrow, enclosed box, there were only the two of them. No one spoke; the only sound was the friction of the ropes.
Pei Xi unconsciously fiddled with the seam of his pants, his hand hanging by his side. He felt a mix of anticipation and nervousness about what was about to happen, though he couldn't quite put his finger on which was more prominent.
As the elevator arrived with a ding, Jiang Cheng reached out and tightly gripped her wrist.
Pei Xi let him hold her without struggling.
Jiang Cheng didn't let go of her hand when he opened the door; he took out his key with one hand and opened the door.
After changing her shoes, he let go of her, gently touched her face with his large hand, and whispered, "Baby, I'm going to take a shower first."
Pei Xi hummed in agreement.
He didn't rush to leave, but looked down at her and asked earnestly, "Are you scared?"
Pei Xi shook her head. "I'm not afraid."
Jiang Cheng lowered his head and kissed her.
"Baby, wait for me."
"Um."
He moved quickly, and a few minutes later, the sound of water in the bathroom stopped, and he came out wrapped only in a bath towel.
Her upper body was completely naked, revealing everything.
Pei Xi's face flushed instantly. She looked at his upper body muscles and the water droplets remaining on them, then quickly looked away. "I'm going to wash too."
"Okay." Jiang Cheng watched her walk into the bathroom.
Pei Xi washed up very quickly.
She was mainly worried that Jiang Cheng wouldn't be able to wait outside.
When Pei Xi went out, Jiang Cheng wasn't on the sofa. He went to Jiang Cheng's bedroom and found him sitting on the edge of the bed, examining something he had just bought. The outer packaging box had already been opened.
