Chapter 178 Withdrawal Reactions

Pei Xi was confused and took several seconds to understand what he said.

"What do you mean... I don't understand..." She glanced at him, her voice weak, but there seemed to be a sly glint in her eyes.

Jiang Chengwei sighed almost imperceptibly.

If it weren't for his reason telling him that work was important, he really would have wanted to fly back without a second thought and meet Pei Xi immediately.

Then I held her in my arms.

He could feel his chest being filled with something, about to explode.

"I'll be going back the day after tomorrow," he said to the camera.

Her eyes were fixed on the person on the screen, her voice so soft it was as if she were murmuring to herself.

"Okay." Pei Xi smiled and looked at him, saying, "I know, you've already said it before."

Jiang Cheng grunted in response.

Then neither of them spoke, they just stared at each other silently across the screen. After a few seconds, they suddenly smiled at each other in perfect unison.

Pei Xi asked softly, "Should I hang up now? Don't you still have work to do? I'll disturb you."

Jiang Cheng immediately shook his head, "I won't disturb you."

He said again, "Don't hang it up, baby."

Pei Xi grunted and reluctantly said, "Okay, okay, I'll dry my hair, you go back to work."

Jiang Cheng smiled and nodded, "Okay."

Pei Xi brought a hairdryer and sat on the bed to dry her hair. After it was dry, she saw that Jiang Cheng was still looking down, seemingly looking at some documents.

Pei Xi didn't disturb him. She lay down on the bed, holding her phone in one hand, and looked at him with her head turned to the side.

Before long, I grew sleepy, my eyelids slowly closed, and I fell asleep.

When Jiang Cheng looked up again, the screen was completely black.

The phone was lying on the pillow.

I heard soft, even breathing through the receiver.

He paused for a moment, then silently curled the corners of his lips and said in a very soft voice to the black screen, "Goodnight, baby."

-

When Pei Xi woke up the next day, her phone only had 10% battery left.

She glanced at the call duration on the screen; it was a full four hours.

In other words, Jiang Cheng didn't hang up for a long time after she fell asleep yesterday.

I worked with the black screen for hours on end.

Pei Xi felt a tingling sensation in her heart, and while washing up, her mind was filled with Jiang Cheng's face.

After leaving the bathroom, I glanced at the deserted kitchen and a sudden, inexplicable sense of loss washed over me.

Her mind was filled with the image of Jiang Cheng's tall, slender back as he cooked for her, an apron tied around his waist.

Pei Xi touched her nose, utterly speechless at herself. Jiang Cheng had only been gone for a few days, and she could clearly feel that she was already experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

When I said I missed him last night, I wasn't joking.

She really missed him.

Pei Xi was surprised, as it wasn't like this before.

In the past, even if she didn't see him for more than a week, it wouldn't be too hard for her, unlike now when he's on her mind all the time.

Pei Xi was startled by this uncontrollable emotion.

She frowned, thought it over and over, and still felt that no, she had to control herself.

She needs to have self-control.

As Jiang Cheng gets busier with work, frequent business trips are inevitable. Can she keep doing this all the time?

This will affect not only her, but also Jiang Cheng.

As she headed off to school, Pei Xi secretly resolved to see if she could resist contacting him for an entire day.

Pei Xi only had one class this morning and two in the afternoon. She endured it and focused all her attention on the class. She turned her phone on and off several times after class, but in the end, she managed to refrain from sending any messages.

Jiang Cheng seemed to be very busy all day, only asking her in the morning if she had eaten breakfast.

By evening, their chat history remained stuck on their morning conversation.

As Pei Xi walked out of the teaching building with the flow of people after the last class in the afternoon, his phone suddenly pinged.

"Is get out of class over?"

Jiang Cheng finally sent her a message.

Just as Pei Xi was about to reply, someone called out to her from behind, "Pei Xi."

Pei Xi turned her head and saw a boy with medium-length hair and fair skin.

She smiled and called out to him, "Class monitor? Is something the matter?"

This person's name is Cao Yu, and he is their class monitor.

Cao Yu is usually very serious and responsible at work, and his personality is similar to He Zan, Pei Xi's class monitor in high school, so she has a pretty good impression of him.

Cao Yu caught up with Pei Xi in a few steps and walked alongside her. As they descended the steps at the entrance of the building, Cao Yu said, "The lab reports are due the day after tomorrow, by dormitory. Since no one in your dormitory has replied in the group chat, I was afraid you would forget, so I came to tell you."

Pei Xi was taken aback. Chen Liang was their dormitory head, and she was always responsible for replying to and reminding them about these kinds of things. She probably hadn't seen it.

So she smiled and nodded, "Okay, I understand, thank you for reminding me, class monitor."

Cao Yu smiled, his smile as gentle as a spring breeze, "You're welcome, it's what I should do."

The two walked down the steps together. Cao Yu then told her a few more things to note about the lab report, which Pei Xi remembered. She then thanked him and waved goodbye.

Watching Cao Yu turn away, Pei Xi picked up her phone again. Just as she was about to reply, she saw that Jiang Cheng had sent her another new message.

"I'm at the entrance of the teaching building now."

Pei Xi was taken aback, then looked up as if he had a premonition.

At a glance, I spotted a familiar black car parked on the side of the road not far away.

Behind the windshield was a sharp and handsome face.

Those familiar black eyes were staring intently at her.
