Pei Xi paused for only a second before quickly running over and opening the car door.
She sat in the passenger seat, looking at the people in the car, her eyes sparkling with joy that she couldn't hide.
"Why are you back today?!"
"The work ended earlier than expected."
Jiang Cheng looked at her, his cold and deep brows softening slightly, his tone seemingly casual.
In fact, after finishing his work last night, he quickly finished the rest of his tasks without wasting a second and flew back to Jingjiang.
Pei Xi was visibly happy. She took his hand, held his slender fingers, and unconsciously used her fingertips to gently knead his strong, well-defined knuckles.
Jiang Cheng concealed the emotions in his eyes, swallowed hard, and forced a smile as he asked, "Were your classes busy today? Were they full?"
Pei Xi paused, then shook his head, "No..."
Jiang Cheng nodded, his eyelashes fluttering slightly. He raised his other hand and gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, his tone tender: "You haven't contacted me all day, is there something else going on?"
Pei Xi shook his head again, "No..."
Jiang Cheng paused, then stopped speaking and just stared at her.
When he met his gaze, Pei Xi suddenly felt a little guilty.
Just as she was about to explain, Jiang Cheng suddenly asked, "Is the baby angry with me?"
His voice was low, carrying a restrained emotion—perhaps grievance, perhaps inquiry, or something else entirely.
"Is there still something you're not satisfied with about me?" he asked again.
He looked at her intently, and Pei Xi didn't know how to explain for a moment, a hint of embarrassment showing on her face.
He seems to have misunderstood something.
He assumed she was throwing a tantrum because she hadn't contacted him.
During the two seconds of silence, Jiang Cheng's gaze deepened. He suddenly turned around and grasped Pei Xi's hand, applying some pressure.
For some reason, Pei Xi sensed a hint of panic in his silence.
She immediately shook her head and whispered, "No, Cheng."
She hesitated for two seconds, looked into his eyes and said, "I just feel like I can't live without you. Even though you've only been away from me for less than a week, I miss you so much, I can't stop missing you."
Jiang Cheng paused noticeably while holding her hand.
Pei Xi turned and grasped his hand, continuing to explain, "So I wanted to test whether I could resist contacting you first today."
As she spoke, she gave a slightly troubled laugh, "Although I did manage to hold back, the process was so painful."
"I think I really can't live without you."
Jiang Cheng's expression was completely stunned.
He seemed completely unprepared for Pei Xi to say those words.
His expression was somewhat taken aback. After a long pause, his Adam's apple bobbed slightly, and he called out to her in a hoarse voice, "Baby..."
"Hmm?" Pei Xi opened his eyes, signaling him to continue.
The carriage was silent for several seconds. His voice, which had been cold, became extremely soft and gentle. He sighed and said, "It's okay if you can't live without me."
Pei Xi was taken aback.
Then her cheek was cupped in a warm palm, and she heard Jiang Cheng say, "You don't need to worry about this, because I will never leave you."
"I will always be by your side as long as you need me."
"So there's no need to suppress your emotions."
"Is that alright?"
Pei Xi remained silent for several seconds.
For some reason, looking at Jiang Cheng's gentle yet stubborn eyes, her eyes suddenly felt a little hot.
He was offering her his heart to comfort her.
He was always showing her his true feelings.
Pei Xi finally nodded in his palm and gave a soft "hmm".
She said, "I understand."
Then she suddenly smiled and said, "Then I also have something to tell you."
Jiang Cheng was taken aback. "What?"
Pei Xi cupped his face in her hands and said gently, "I won't give you the silent treatment, so you don't need to doubt yourself or think you've done anything wrong. If I have any complaints about you, I will definitely tell you."
She suddenly remembered something, looked up slightly, and hummed, "But so far, it seems there really hasn't been one."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Cheng's eyes lit up with a smile. "Thank you, baby. I will continue to work hard."
Pei Xi leaned forward and kissed him.
Their lips touched briefly before parting. Just as Pei Xi was about to sit back down, his waist was suddenly grabbed.
The overwhelming force was not to be underestimated. Pei Xi struggled twice but remained motionless, and his ears instantly felt hot.
This is in a school where people come and go.
"you…"
She had barely uttered a word when Jiang Cheng suddenly looked at her and whispered, "Who was that man just now?"
Pei Xi was stunned for a moment before realizing who he was talking about.
“Our class monitor,” she answered quickly, “reminded me to hand in my lab report.”
Jiang Cheng grunted in response, neither confirming nor denying.
But the pressure on his hands didn't loosen.
Pei Xi understood his expression all too well. She glanced at him and asked, "Are you jealous?"
"We only exchanged a few words as we were going down the stairs together."
"You wouldn't even want this kind of vinegar..."
"You said you'd tell me if you're jealous," Jiang Cheng suddenly interrupted her.
"I know I shouldn't be jealous, but I really was."
"So I'm going to tell you."
Pei Xi: "".
He's quite well-behaved, though.
She did say those words.
That's the same principle.
"Then let me coax you?" She smiled gently. "How do you want me to coax you?"
Upon hearing this, Jiang Cheng smiled.
He suddenly let go of her, bent down to pull the seatbelt over and fasten it for her. "It's not convenient outside, let's talk about it when we get back."
Pei Xi's smile vanished: "..."
She suspected he did it on purpose.
But she had no evidence.
