Chapter 184 I Didn't Expect It to Be You

On the way back from the cemetery, it was still Xiao Pei who drove.

When I got home, it was already quite late, and it was time for dinner.

As usual, the two handsome men cooked dinner.

Pei Zhi still likes to chatter on and on while cooking. I wonder if he would talk less if someone else were next to him.

As always, Jiang Cheng was a man of few words, occasionally offering brief responses, which only provoked Pei Zhixin into another round of incessant chatter.

Pei Xi and Pei Ruoyun listened from the sofa, laughing uncontrollably.

However, talking didn't stop him from working. With Jiang Cheng helping in the kitchen, the two of them were very efficient, and dinner was ready in no time. It consisted of three dishes and a soup, all of which looked and smelled delicious.

Everyone was a bit hungry, so they quickly finished their dishes and cleaned up the trash. Pei Zhi picked up a deck of cards on the coffee table and immediately became interested. He called out, "Want to play cards for a bit? Who's in favor and who's against!"

Pei Xi gave him face and responded quite enthusiastically, "Okay, okay."

Pei Zhi glanced at Jiang Cheng, who was cleaning up the trash in the kitchen. Pei Xi's agreement was equivalent to the agreement of both of them, so there was no need to ask again.

So he just looked at Pei Ruoyun and asked, "Mom, wanna play a couple of rounds?"

Pei Ruoyun nodded. Actually, she was a little sleepy, but she couldn't spoil her son's fun.

Pei Zhi finished arranging the group, then suddenly remembered something, raised his chin slightly towards Pei Xi, and appointed, "You'll be in my group."

Pei Xi: "?"

"That way you can't help him with the water discharge." Pei Zhi chuckled.

Pei Xi: "".

She touched her nose; sure enough, she had been discovered.

Her brother wasn't actually that stupid.

Just then, Jiang Cheng came out of the kitchen carrying a bag of trash. He glanced at Pei Zhi and said, "You guys shuffle the cards first, I'm going out to throw out the trash."

Pei Zhi nodded and waved his hand at him, "Go quickly and come back quickly."

"Um."

Jiang Cheng didn't wear a coat; he just put on his shoes and went out.

There was no wind outside, and although Jiang Cheng was only wearing a thin sweatshirt, he didn't feel very cold.

He stepped out into the front yard, opened the door, and was about to put the trash in the bin when he saw someone walking towards him.

He was fairly tall, but not as tall as Pei Zhigao. He wore glasses that reflected a metallic sheen under the streetlights.

Jiang Cheng paused.

The man approached, then suddenly stopped in his tracks.

The two stared at each other silently for a few seconds under the streetlight. A complex and unfathomable emotion flashed in the eyes of the person opposite, who spoke first: "You are...?"

After asking the question, he looked up at the doorplate behind Jiang Cheng.

After confirming something, the emotions in his eyes became even more unpredictable.

Jiang Cheng's face was expressionless, only his eyebrows and eyes were furrowed.

He remembered this person. A long time ago, he had seen him at the entrance of the Dayu Internet Cafe. At that time, he and Pei Xi were walking along the road, hailing a taxi as they came out of the mall.

They later left together in a car.

Later, they even went skiing together at a resort.

He turned to the side, threw the trash into the bin, his features hidden in shadow, his gaze slightly cold.

Lu Langxuan asked tentatively, with a hint of surprise, "You're Pei Xi's boyfriend?"

Jiang Cheng glanced at him and hummed in agreement.

The Lu family had spent the Lu New Year in Italy for the past two years and only returned to Yushi this year. Therefore, although Lu Langxuan had heard that Pei Xi had a boyfriend, he had never met him.

He saw Jiang Cheng nod, paused for several seconds, blinked rapidly twice, and then forced a smile. "I've heard that Pei Xi has a boyfriend, but I didn't expect it to be you."

Jiang Cheng noticed the tone and wording in his voice, and frowned slightly as he asked, "You remember me?"

Lu Langxuan nodded.

He has a very good memory; he can recognize someone even if they've only met once.

After all, Jiang Cheng's appearance and temperament are quite rare.

Moreover, he still vividly remembers what happened that day.

That day, Pei Zhi did not heed the suggestion he made out of concern for Pei Xi.

He was surprised; he thought that given Pei Zhi's level of concern for Pei Xi, he would readily agree.

But to his surprise, Pei Zhi seemed to only feel that he had overstepped his bounds, and was only displeased with his interference in Pei Xi's social life.

"It seems you remember me too," Lu Langxuan said, pulling himself out of his brief reverie and looking at Jiang Cheng.

Jiang Cheng let out a very soft "hmm".

His face remained expressionless, his gaze lightly falling on Lu Langxuan, devoid of emotion, yet somehow giving off a chilling feeling.

A hint of surprise flashed in Lu Langxuan's eyes, then he said with a sigh, "To be honest, I didn't expect that Pei Xi would actually be with you. I thought..."

He paused halfway through his sentence, frowned, and glanced at Jiang Cheng, the meaning in his eyes self-evident.

A soft laugh drifted through the quiet night.

Jiang Cheng smiled slightly, staring intently at him, and then added what he hadn't finished saying: "I thought she was just infatuated for a while."

"Do you still think I'm some kind of good-for-nothing hoodlum?"

Lu Langxuan was taken aback, his eyes behind his glasses flashing, as if he hadn't expected him to be so blunt, but he remained silent and did not deny it.

That's exactly what he thought.

He doesn't need to hypocritically deny it.

"It seems my intuition was wrong; you're very successful now," he said with a polite and courteous smile.

“I wouldn’t call it a success.” Jiang Cheng shook his head and raised an eyebrow. “It’s mainly because Pei Xi likes me.”

Lu Langxuan was taken aback.

For no apparent reason, looking into Jiang Cheng's dark and calm eyes, he recalled the distant displeasure in Pei Zhi's eyes that night.
