Chapter 24 The Notorious Nemesis

Upon hearing this, Dai Wei glanced at Pei Xi, seeking his opinion.

She knew Gao Jialiang wasn't asking about her; even the "beautiful lady" was just a casual remark, a slip of the tongue.

Pei Xi waved his hand and declined, "No need, Dai Wei and I will just grab something to eat, and we'd like to stroll around the neighborhood later."

Upon hearing this, Gao Jialiang was about to speak up to persuade them to stay when Dai Wei spoke up first, saying, "Yes, it's inconvenient for us girls to take you shopping."

These words shut down Gao Jialiang's words. He shook his head and had no choice but to give up, a hint of disappointment flashing across his face.

"Okay, then I won't bother you."

Pei Xi nodded and walked out of the classroom arm in arm with Dai Wei.

After passing several classrooms, just as he was about to go down the stairs, Pei Xi reached into his pocket and suddenly found it empty.

A chill ran down her spine; her phone was gone.

Pei Xi quickly recalled that he must have been interrupted by Gao Jialiang and left it on the table in his haste.

She quickly told Dai Wei, "Wait here for me a moment. I left my phone in the classroom. I'll go back and get it."

Upon hearing this, Dai Wei's expression turned anxious, and she quickly replied, "Okay, okay, go quickly."

"Um."

Pei Xi quickened his pace and walked back to the study room. Just as he reached the door, he suddenly heard Gao Jialiang's familiar loud voice coming from inside: "Do you know who that kid Pei Xi and Dai Wei were talking about is? He doesn't even come to class. Is he really that good?"

Another voice came from inside the room, sounding somewhat familiar, "He's quite impressive."

Pei Xi saw through the window that it was the skinny boy from No. 1 Middle School, named Xu Kai.

A group of boys, led by Gao Jialiang, were gathered together; only a few of them remained in the classroom.

Upon hearing this, Gao Jialiang clicked his tongue, his expression clearly displeased. Xu Kai, observing his expression, spoke up at the opportune moment: "However, there is one thing about him that he can't compare to you at all."

Gao Jialiang became interested and asked, "What?"

Xu Kai chuckled, his already ordinary features revealing a hint of slyness. He replied to Gao Jialiang, "He's poor, not just poor, but poor in every way. He has to rely on the school's scholarship to live each semester and also has to work several jobs. Many classmates have seen him working."

Upon hearing this, Gao Jialiang's smile widened, and he laughed heartily, instantly dispelling any resentment he had felt at being outdone.

"So he's just a poor guy, huh? And he's still so good at pretending."

Upon hearing this, Pei Xi frowned, suddenly feeling somewhat uncomfortable.

Seeing that the group showed no sign of stopping, Pei Xi didn't want to listen to their idle chatter any longer, so he simply walked into the classroom.

When Gao Jialiang and the others saw her, they immediately shut their mouths, looked at each other in shock.

An eerie silence fell over the room. Pei Xi didn't look at them and went straight to the seat he had just been sitting in.

Seeing that her phone was still there, she breathed a sigh of relief, picked it up, and put it in her pocket.

Then he walked out without looking to the side.

Throughout the entire process, no one in the room spoke.

After Pei Xi walked out of the classroom and her figure completely disappeared, Gao Jialiang finally breathed a sigh of relief and asked Xu Kai with some guilt and lingering fear, "...She shouldn't have heard me, right?"

Xu Kai wasn't nervous at all; in fact, he smiled and patted Gao Jialiang on the shoulder, "Brother Liang, don't be nervous."

Gao Jialiang glared at him, feeling that he was making sarcastic remarks, and said irritably, "How can I not be nervous?"

Xu Kai raised an eyebrow, put his arm around Gao Jialiang's shoulder, and gave him a "you don't know this" look.

"You don't know, Pei Xi's brother Pei Zhi and that Jiang Cheng are notorious rivals at our school. She and her brother are close, so she'll definitely side with her brother."

He patted Gao Jialiang's chest and said with a meaningful smile, "Even if she heard something, she might have a better impression of you now."

Gao Jialiang breathed a sigh of relief, never expecting that the group had such a connection.

Then, as if remembering something, he put his arm around Xu Kai's shoulder and asked, "She and Pei Zhi have a good relationship?"

Xu Kai nodded. "Of course."

Gao Jialiang's eyes darted around, and she lowered her voice, asking him with a smile, "So tell me, if I win her over, will Pei Zhi give way to Fifth Middle School in the future because of me?"

Xu Kai nodded, "Of course! Pei Zhi cares a lot about his sister; everyone at school knows that. If he controls his sister, he's basically controlling him, isn't he?"

Upon hearing this, Gao Jialiang's smile widened, as if he had foreseen that scene.

Xu Kai chuckled, glanced at him, and said with a hint of flattery, "Wait for Brother Liang's good news."
