So she patted the seat next to her, "You sit down too."
Jiang Cheng paused for a moment, then sat down.
However, we were quite far apart.
The two people occupied the two ends of the bench, one on the left and one on the right.
The air instantly became very quiet. Neither of them made a sound. Pei Xi secretly glanced at Jiang Cheng out of the corner of her eye. He seemed not to hear her, leaning against the railing with his gaze fixed on something else.
The light from the streetlights cast their shadows on the ground, one long and one short.
Just then, footsteps suddenly came from outside the stadium.
In the distance, I saw a person wearing a white T-shirt running towards us at a 100-meter sprint speed.
Pei Xi hadn't even seen his face clearly yet, but she recognized him by his build alone. She quickly stood up and waved to him, "Brother!"
Upon hearing the sound, Pei Zhi quickened his pace and charged forward with lightning speed.
He ran a few steps to Pei Xi, then stopped, resting his hands on his knees, his face contorted in a grimace as he panted heavily. "Damn it, let me explain! I didn't mean to leave you behind! Some idiot dragged me for two miles!"
After saying that, he looked up and saw Jiang Cheng sitting next to him. His expression suddenly turned serious. "Why are you still here?"
Pei Xi quickly explained, "By the way, brother, Jiang Cheng is going to..."
Before he could finish speaking, Jiang Cheng stood up, his expression icy cold, and said to Pei Zhi, "Pei Zhi, if you bring someone out at night, you need to keep a close eye on them."
Pei Zhi straightened up and gave a disgruntled snort, "Do you need to tell me?"
If he hadn't gotten carried away earlier and habitually assumed that he was the one who came to play basketball today and that some idiot had dragged him away, he would never have left Pei Xi here.
He had only run halfway when he turned back; he felt like his lungs were about to burst.
Jiang Cheng scoffed lightly, "It's best not to use it."
After saying that, he threw the bag in his hand at Pei Zhi, saying, "Her medicine."
Pei Zhi instinctively took the bag, opened it, glanced inside, then paused, anxiously pressing Pei Xi's shoulder and looking him over. "You're injured?!"
Pei Xi spread out his hand to show him, then shook his head, "It's just a minor injury, don't worry."
Pei Zhi grabbed her fingers with an apologetic look, paused for two seconds as if struck by lightning, and stammered, "...I did it?"
Pei Xi shook his head, "Someone from No. 5 Middle School, but I can't remember who it is."
Pei Zhi looked at the red mark on her fair palm, his handsome brows furrowing, his eyes filled with heartache, and his tone was vicious: "Those bastards..."
She looked up at Jiang Cheng again, and remembering what he had just said, she felt inexplicably guilty.
If he hadn't impulsively gotten into a fight, Pei Xi wouldn't have been injured.
A hint of embarrassment appeared on Pei Zhi's face.
He then looked at the brown marks around Pei Xi's wound. "Was medicine applied?"
Pei Xi nodded, "Jiang Cheng helped me."
Pei Zhi was taken aback.
She looked up at Jiang Cheng again.
Although he disliked him, he always distinguished right from wrong and kept things separate, especially since it involved Pei Xi. So he said to Jiang Cheng, "Um... thank you."
Jiang Cheng let out a soft snort, "I can't accept that."
"Take it or leave it." Pei Zhi no longer gave him face, and pulled Pei Xi toward the electric scooter next to them. "Come on, let's go home."
Pei Zhi was strong, and Pei Xi was pulled forward a step by him. Then, as if he suddenly remembered something, he stopped, turned around and said, "Jiang Cheng".
"I forgot to tell you earlier, thank you."
Jiang Cheng paused for a moment, then said in a low voice, "You're welcome."
Pei Xi smiled and waved to him, "Goodbye."
Pei Zhi put his arm around Pei Xi's shoulder, used his other hand to turn her head, and pulled her forward while saying irritably, "Never again, never again, go home!"
Pei Xi was forcibly turned around by him and did not see behind him. Jiang Chengchui's hand moved slightly at his side, but ultimately did not lift up.
When she turned around again, she only saw Jiang Cheng's departing figure.
He carried a bag, still black, a large sports bag, slung across his thin, straight back, his whole being shrouded in black, as if trying to blend into the night.
Pei Xi unconsciously looked down at his palm.
She recalled the scene of Jiang Cheng disinfecting her wound just now.
Which is the real Jiang Cheng: the obsessive and domineering one in my dream, or the gentle one I just saw?
