Pei Xi instinctively hugged the book in his arms tighter, and suddenly felt his face getting hot.
The next second, a shrill scream suddenly rang out in the quiet air, its power still penetrating even through a wall.
"Aaaaaaah!!! Don't grab me!!! Help!!!"
His originally deep male voice was now trembling with fear, and he started to speak in a falsetto.
I wonder which unlucky burly guy from the horror game next door was.
The frozen air was instantly broken, and Pei Xi couldn't help but chuckle.
She stepped aside and held up the clue she had just found for Jiang Cheng to see, "Look, I found a password."
Jiang Cheng hummed in agreement, then casually pulled the book from under his fingertips, waved it at her, and whispered, "I found it too."
Pei Xi's face lit up with joy. "Great! Let's try it right away."
"good."
The two entered the password they found into the combination lock, pressed the '#' key, and with a beep, the combination lock opened.
“We’re going to escape.” Pei Xi gripped the doorknob and looked up at Jiang Cheng.
For some reason, she felt a strange mix of nervousness and excitement.
Just like the princess in the story, she has truly overcome many difficulties and is finally about to venture out into the world.
Just as she pressed the doorknob, she heard Jiang Cheng's low voice behind her.
"Congratulations on your success, Princess."
As soon as he finished speaking, the door clicked open, and the noisy, chaotic real world flooded into all his senses.
Store staff in uniforms bustled about, while customers who had just finished a game were enthusiastically reviewing their playthroughs, and cheerful sounds of games drifted from the waiting area.
As Pei Xi stepped out of that last door, he experienced a momentary sense of unreality.
They successfully escaped from the castle and began their adventure in the real world.
“We really succeeded.” Pei Xi turned to look at Jiang Cheng and smiled.
Jiang Cheng gave a soft "hmm".
The short-haired girl who had led them in earlier greeted them and said in a surprised tone, "You guys are amazing! You finished the game in seventy minutes, breaking the record for the fastest completion of this game in our store."
Pei Xi was pleasantly surprised upon hearing this, "Really?"
"Of course," the short-haired girl nodded. "And you didn't need any hints the whole time, that's really impressive. You two must be advanced players who have played a lot of escape rooms, right?"
Pei Xi shook her head, pointed at Jiang Cheng, and said with a proud look, "Thanks to him, it was his first time playing, wasn't he amazing?"
The short-haired girl was also a little surprised when she heard this. She smiled and praised, "Your boyfriend is really handsome and smart."
Pei Xi was taken aback, a hint of embarrassment instantly appearing on his face. He quickly waved his hand and said, "No, you misunderstood..."
The short-haired girl turned around and picked up the camera on the bar, interrupting her, "Would you two like to take a Polaroid photo?" She pointed to a wall behind her, "You can hang it there as a souvenir after you're done."
Pei Xi looked up and saw that the wall was covered with Polaroid cameras and sticky notes, with all sorts of wishes and messages written on the colorful papers.
Everyone in each photo is smiling. One vivid smiling face after another is captured on a thin piece of paper. There are large groups of friends and couples.
Pei Xi withdrew her gaze, looked up at Jiang Cheng, and asked him softly, "Do you want to take a picture?"
Jiang Cheng was silent for a few seconds, then said softly, "I'll listen to you."
Upon hearing this, the short-haired girl couldn't help but laugh. She hadn't expected this handsome guy, who looked so aloof, to be so obedient.
Pei Xi paused for a moment, then held up a finger to him, her amber eyes sparkling with a smile, unconsciously carrying a hint of coquetry, "Let's take one too, after all, we broke the record."
Jiang Cheng lowered his eyes, his Adam's apple bobbed slightly, and then he nodded and said, "Okay."
The short-haired girl took a step back, raised her camera towards them, and said, "You can just stand there, I'll take your picture."
The two stopped moving and stood side by side looking at the camera.
"Come closer," the short-haired girl said, bending down and squinting with one eye.
Pei Xi glanced at Jiang Cheng out of the corner of her eye and took a small step toward him.
"Come a little closer," the short-haired girl continued.
Pei Xi paused for a moment, then took a small step, her shoulder almost touching his arm, their clothes already pressed together.
Jiang Cheng stood there, without moving an inch.
The short-haired girl straightened up, still dissatisfied. She looked at Jiang Cheng and said, "Boy, smile. Don't be so cold. Be happy. Don't look like you're being forced."
Pei Xi chuckled upon hearing this.
She looked up at Jiang Cheng's face and found that he still had that cold look on his face, and it really did seem like he was being forced.
However, she knew that this was Jiang Cheng's personality, and it would be asking the impossible for him to laugh.
Pei Xi suddenly had an idea. She turned her head, looked at him from the front, and pulled her lower eyelids with her two index fingers, making a face at him.
This trick worked as expected. Jiang Cheng was stunned for a moment, then laughed unexpectedly.
Just then, a crisp snapping sound came from the side.
The short-haired girl quickly captured the moment with her camera.
"Okay, all done." She waved the camera at the two of them. "The photos will be developed soon, just a moment."
Pei Xi looked away and thanked the girl.
The photo was printed quickly, and a clear image of a person appeared on the small piece of paper a dozen seconds later.
Both of them are shown in profile; one is cute and playful, while the other has downcast eyes and a slight curve to the corners of her lips.
Pei Xi held the photograph in her hand, looking at the handsome profile picture on it, and her heart skipped a beat.
Jiang Cheng has a very handsome smile.
The coldness in his eyes had vanished, as if the soft winter snow had melted into water, carrying a gentle meaning.
Polaroid photos have a soft, retro film texture. Bright sunlight is blurred, and the small frame of the photo paper frames two people, as if it were a still from a movie with only two people, unable to contain anyone else.
"They look so good! As expected, pretty people look good in any photo." The short-haired girl exclaimed as she looked at the photos. She had never seen such a good-looking couple in all the time she had been running the shop.
I must put this photo in the most conspicuous place later.
She picked up a pen from the table and handed it to Pei Xi, "By the way, if you have anything you want to write, you can write it down here. I have a marker."
Pei Xi didn't ask Jiang Cheng. She took the pen, thought for a moment, then lowered her head and lay down on the bar counter to write in the blank space below.
Jiang Cheng was tall, with an unobstructed view, and could clearly see her delicate and beautiful handwriting from behind.
He saw her write, stroke by stroke—
Princess Knight, Number One in the World
Looking at her serious profile, Jiang Cheng suddenly smiled.
