Chapter 36 Wrapping her arms around his waist

Pei Xi was stunned for a moment before she realized that Jiang Cheng meant to take her home.

On second thought, those thugs had left in a huff, and she was somewhat afraid to walk alone.

She looked at Jiang Cheng, pursed her lips, and frowned slightly, as if she was hesitant.

He remained silent for a moment.

Jiang Cheng's gaze deepened as she remained silent.

He instinctively gripped the helmet in his hand.

He suddenly felt a pang of regret.

He was so focused on getting Pei Xi to her destination that he forgot whether she even wanted to ride on his beat-up motorcycle.

She probably had never ridden in such a cheap and dilapidated car before.

Jiang Cheng spoke in a low voice, "I'll still call you..."

At the same time, Pei Xi suddenly spoke up, interrupting him: "If we leave like this, what about your salary? He hasn't paid you yet."

She frowned deeply, her face filled with resentment and worry.

Jiang Cheng was taken aback upon hearing this.

He was stunned for a moment.

Pei Xi looked at him again and spoke, her tone tinged with urgency: "We'll go in and ask him to give it back. If he doesn't give it to us, we'll call the police. My mother knows some very capable lawyers..."

“It was just sent yesterday,” Jiang Cheng suddenly said.

Pei Xi was taken aback, then visibly breathed a sigh of relief.

Her furrowed brows relaxed, and she clutched her chest, taking a deep breath.

"That's good." She smiled at Jiang Cheng.

She would feel terribly guilty if Jiang Cheng couldn't even get his salary because of her.

Jiang Cheng watched as her expression shifted from worry to relief, and his dark pupils contracted.

It turns out she was worried about him.

A strange feeling spread through him. He loosened his grip on the helmet, stared at Pei Xi's face, and his eyes flickered.

It felt like something was stuck in my chest, making me feel bloated and sore.

But it wasn't uncomfortable.

Countless vehicles drove back and forth along the roadside, and the sounds of people and horns mingled, creating a noisy scene all around. But it seemed that he could only see Pei Xi's smile.

Jiang Cheng's Adam's apple bobbed twice, and a faint smile appeared in his eyes.

"Don't worry." He curled the corner of his lips. "I'm a miser, I would never work for free."

Upon hearing this, Pei Xi chuckled.

Jiang Cheng was stunned for a moment after saying those words, and belatedly realized that he had blurted out a joke.

He knew perfectly well that this was because the person standing in front of him was Pei Xi.

He felt an unusual sense of relaxation whenever he was with Pei Xi.

Restraint and reason are always unconsciously indulged.

They might even uncontrollably reveal a side of themselves that they would never normally show.

Jiang Cheng suppressed the emotions in his eyes.

He knew he seemed to be beyond saving.

"Shall we leave now?" Pei Xi asked, looking at him, then smiled, even with a hint of anticipation. "I've never ridden a motorcycle before; I've only ever ridden Pei Zhi's electric scooter."

Jiang Cheng nodded, glanced into the distance, and said, "Did you order barbecue? It looks ready."

Pei Xi exclaimed "Ah!" and looked surprised. "I almost forgot."

Jiang Cheng had already started walking towards the barbecue vendor. "I'll get it for you."

He walked to the door, holding the packaged barbecue, and strode back to her in a few steps.

Then hang the barbecue bag on the handlebars.

“Turn your head around,” he said to Pei Xi.

Pei Xi obediently turned his head, but before he could speak, a heavy object suddenly fell on his head.

Then everything went black before her eyes, and her entire head was enveloped.

Jiang Cheng put his helmet on her head.

His helmet was so big that it fell down on her head, almost blocking her view.

Jiang Cheng leaned back and adjusted his position, revealing Pei Xi's eyes through the frames of his goggles.

Her eyes still held a hint of surprise, widening slightly as she blinked her long eyelashes at him several times.

Like butterflies fluttering.

They're absolutely adorable.

Jiang Cheng lowered his gaze and gently fastened the clasp for her.

Then he gently adjusted the back of his helmet.

The gesture was like patting her head.

Pei Xi looked up at him, her voice muffled inside the helmet: "If you give me the helmet, what will you do?"

Jiang Cheng withdrew his hand, shook his head, and said in a low voice, "I don't need it."

Pei Xi frowned, hesitated for a moment, and said, "I'll let you wear it. Wait for me, I'll take it off."

After she finished speaking, she made a gesture to raise her hand, but Jiang Cheng suddenly spoke up.

"You wear it." He looked down at her, paused, and then said softly, "Be good."

His voice was already pleasant, but it was too cold. Now, by deliberately softening it, it actually gave people a gentle feeling.

Pei Xi felt a burning sensation near his ears for a moment.

Pei Zhi always told her to "be good," and his tone was gentle, but the feeling was completely different.

Pei Xi thought that it was fortunate that her head was covered by the helmet, because the tips of her ears should be a little red.

Pei Xi abruptly looked away and said to Jiang Cheng, "Then... let's set off quickly."

"good."

Jiang Cheng nodded, took a long stride, and sat down in the car.

Pei Xi straddled him from behind.

He was very tall and had broad shoulders. Pei Xi sat behind him, and his view was almost completely blocked.

Jiang Cheng started the car, and the two drove onto the road.

He wasn't riding very fast. Pei Xi had seen him ride his motorcycle at that speed before, and now it seemed to be less than half that speed.

Pei Xi gripped the handlebars at the back of the bike tightly. The position wasn't exactly comfortable, but Jiang Cheng rode very steadily, so it wasn't too strenuous for her.
