Jiang Cheng and Pei Xi were both taken aback and looked in the direction from which the sound came.
Not far away, Pei Zhi threw down the basketball in his hand and sprinted over at top speed, grabbing Jiang Cheng by the collar.
The immense force propelled the two of them backward several steps.
Pei Zhi grabbed Jiang Cheng's clothes and said fiercely, "What the hell were you doing just now! Where are you putting your hands!"
He took a step closer to Jiang Cheng, each word laced with chilling anger: "Didn't I tell you to stay away from Pei Xi?!"
He was clearly furious, staring intently at Jiang Cheng, his chest heaving violently like an enraged lion.
In contrast, Jiang Cheng simply stared at Pei Zhi quietly, letting him pull his clothes out of shape.
Pei Zhi became even angrier, his eyes almost red, and he spat out a few words through gritted teeth: "Jiang Cheng, if you have a problem, come at me."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Cheng's eyes darkened instantly, and he said coldly, "Pei Zhi, you think too highly of yourself."
Pei Zhi cursed and raised his hand to throw a punch.
Jiang Cheng just stared at him coldly, without flinching at all.
They didn't even make a move to resist.
The fist was halfway through its swing when it suddenly stopped in mid-air.
Someone grabbed Pei Zhi's arm.
The two looked at Pei Xi simultaneously, only to find that she seemed somewhat angry, her face expressionless.
Her clear almond-shaped eyes did not hold the smile she usually did; instead, they appeared somewhat serious.
"Brother, can you stop being unreasonable?" Pei Xi frowned as he looked at Pei Zhi.
Pei Zhi was taken aback upon hearing this.
He opened his eyes, seemingly incredulous, and asked, "Pei Xi, what did you say? I'm being unreasonable?"
Pei Xi nodded. "You want to hit someone without even knowing what happened? Isn't that just being unreasonable?"
After saying that, she used her strength to pull away Pei Zhi's hand that was grabbing Jiang Cheng's clothes.
Pei Zhi looked utterly incredulous, practically bursting with anger.
Pei Xi had never spoken to him like this before, from childhood to adulthood.
Today, you're actually saying he's being unreasonable because of Jiang Cheng?!
Overwhelmed with heartache and anger, Pei Zhi felt like his heart was about to explode.
He glared at Jiang Cheng, said "okay" twice, and then turned and left without looking back.
Pei Xi watched his retreating figure and sighed deeply.
She turned to look at Jiang Cheng, her eyes filled with apology. "I'm sorry, I apologize to you on behalf of my brother. He... he wasn't targeting you. He was just too concerned about me, so he lost his composure."
Jiang Cheng paused for a moment, then said in a low voice, "No need to apologize, it's understandable that he hates me."
Pei Xi was taken aback. "What do you mean?"
"It's nothing." Jiang Cheng shook his head, a strange emotion flashing in his eyes.
He took the barbecue bag hanging in the car, handed it to Pei Xi, and said to her, "He looks really angry. Go back and coax him. I'm leaving now."
After saying that, he put on his helmet, straddled the motorcycle, started the engine, and sped away into the distance.
-
When Pei Xi returned home, Pei Zhi was sitting on the sofa in the living room.
He crossed his arms, his face full of anger, every cell in his body radiating displeasure.
When he saw her come in, he snorted and turned his face away, not even giving her a proper look.
Pei Xi walked over, placed the basketball she was holding next to him, and said softly, "You finally managed to buy this limited edition collaboration basketball, how can you just throw it away like that?"
Pei Zhi glanced at the ball he had just thrown away, his gaze lingered, and his expression softened slightly, but he still didn't say anything.
Pei Xi glanced at his expression and then placed the barbecue he was carrying in his other hand on the coffee table in front of him.
Then open the insulated bag.
The aroma of barbecue instantly filled the air, and the smell of cumin and meat was enough to whet one's appetite.
Pei Zhi glanced at it, his Adam's apple bobbing twice.
Pei Xi keenly noticed his subtle movement, picked up a meat skewer, and handed it to Pei Zhi.
She said, "Try it, I bought it especially for you. I almost got harassed by some thugs because I bought you barbecue..."
Before she could finish speaking, Pei Zhi sat up abruptly, his handsome brows furrowing deeply. His anger was instantly replaced by worry. He gripped her shoulders, looking her up and down anxiously, and asked, "What happened? What thugs?!"
Pei Xi smiled and recounted the whole story.
Pei Zhi's face grew increasingly grim as he listened, wishing he could fly over and beat those three thugs to a pulp.
After saying that, Pei Xi said seriously, "So, Jiang Cheng helped me, why did you hit him without even asking why?"
Pei Zhi's face darkened, and he was speechless for a moment.
He was indeed in the wrong.
But some things are unreasonable.
Was he going to tell Pei Xi that he just had a man's intuition and couldn't stand the way Jiang Cheng looked at her?
He simply disliked that look in his eyes.
This person is too deep in thought, with such a profound gaze that it's impossible to see through his mind.
But his gut feeling told him it wasn't going to be anything good.
Pei Xi is too naive; he's afraid she'll be deceived by Jiang Cheng.
What's more, nothing has even happened yet, and he's already gotten angry with Jiang Cheng because of him!
He's her own brother!
Even if Jiang Cheng is close to him, can he be as close as him?!
Ah, no, ptooey ptooey ptooey, Jiang Cheng and she kissed each other for no reason!
There's absolutely no comparison! Not even a little bit!
Pei Zhi looked at Pei Xi and immediately started to act shamelessly: "I didn't hit him!"
He raised his voice and said, "So you're siding with him now, not me, huh!"
Pei Xi: "".
So all her explanations were for nothing.
