As dusk settles, the street gradually awakens, and people begin to move about, making it increasingly lively.
As the street became more crowded, more and more customers stopped at the two men's stall.
The vast majority of them were young girls. Many of them were picking out dolls while secretly glancing at Jiang Cheng sitting next to them, and then whispering to their companions with blushing faces.
You can guess what they're saying without even listening.
Seeing Pei Xi's small board, many people who originally only planned to buy one changed their minds and picked out another one. Pei Xi sat next to them and drew cartoon portraits for them.
Pei Xi was holding a piece of cardboard the size of a postcard. She was skilled at drawing and could finish a small drawing in three to five minutes.
She handed the finished painting to a girl with pigtails, who looked delighted and exclaimed softly, "This is so cute!"
"If you're satisfied, you can bring your friends next time," Pei Xi smiled, not forgetting to promote the product and build up repeat customers.
"Definitely, definitely, I'll have my classmate come over tomorrow." The girl nodded hurriedly, carefully put the painting into her bag, and left satisfied.
As word spread, more and more people came to the stall to buy yarn dolls.
Pei Xi perfectly captured the essence of each person's face. Each painting was not only distinctive but also possessed an endearing charm, winning unanimous praise.
While she was busy painting, Jiang Cheng was busy dealing with customers picking out dolls.
Several young girls were browsing in front of the stall. One of them picked up a panda plush toy and asked, "How much is this?"
"Forty-five," Jiang Cheng replied.
The girl smiled and asked expectantly, "After I pay, could I add your contact information?"
Jiang Cheng shook his head immediately, "No."
The girl's expression froze for a moment, not expecting him to reject her so decisively. She looked at Pei Xi, who was drawing with his head down, and asked, "Is she your girlfriend?"
Jiang Cheng lowered his gaze and shook his head, saying, "No."
The girl's face lit up with joy upon hearing this. She leaned closer to Jiang Cheng and asked, "Wouldn't it be nice if we got to know each other?"
Jiang Cheng's brows furrowed slightly, a hint of impatience creeping into his expression. "No, if you're not looking to buy anything, you can leave now."
These words are a blatant attempt to drive people away.
The girl's smile froze on her face. She thought she was pretty, but she didn't expect Jiang Cheng to be so ruthless. Her expression turned ugly in an instant.
"Fine, don't add it then, who cares!" She frowned, pouted, and raised her voice.
After saying that, she threw the yarn panda back heavily and turned to leave.
Pei Xi had just finished handing the painting to the guest in front of him when he heard the commotion. He turned around and asked Jiang Cheng, "What's wrong?"
Jiang Cheng shook his head. "It's nothing."
Pei Xi frowned. She seemed to have heard something about "adding or not adding" just now. She glanced at the girl's angry back and asked after a moment's thought, "She wanted to add your contact information?"
Jiang Cheng nodded and hummed in agreement.
Then he bent down to tidy up the messed-up yarn doll.
He had lowered his eyelashes, his complexion wasn't good, and his brows were slightly furrowed.
He didn't want Pei Xi to hear those words.
Although he knew it was nothing, for seemingly no reason, he just didn't want her to hear it.
So he found it very annoying.
Pei Xi knew that with Jiang Cheng's cold personality, he would definitely refuse without any mercy, which could easily hurt other people's self-esteem.
So she patiently advised, "Girls are shy, you can politely refuse her, for example, by saying that you already have a girlfriend."
Jiang Cheng was suddenly taken aback.
His hand movements froze.
Pei Xi didn't notice and continued, "That's how Pei Zhi does it, and it works very well."
This is his usual tactic, and it has almost always worked.
Normal people, upon hearing that someone has a partner, will stop pressing the issue.
“...I understand,” Jiang Cheng replied in a low voice.
Pei Xi craned her neck to look at his expression, only to see him with his head down, fiddling with the dolls, his gaze averted, seemingly lost in thought.
"Hello, I heard that you can send paintings here, is that true?" Someone came over to ask, and Pei Xi's attention was drawn back. He immediately smiled and nodded, "Yes, you can sit in the chair in front."
After speaking, the person sat down. Pei Xi examined her facial features for a moment, then resumed drawing.
Jiang Cheng raised his head and looked at her quietly.
The night market is a chaotic and noisy place, with all sorts of people coming and going, and the smells of various cooking fumes mixed together, putting all the senses in an overloaded state.
But Pei Xi seemed completely unaffected.
She seemed to be in her own world, her gaze fixed intently on the drawing paper in her hands.
There was no impatience on his face.
He was just focused on drawing.
Just like he had seen in the classroom before.
A painting was quickly finished, and Pei Xi handed it to the guest with a smile. After the guest left satisfied, another person sat down in the empty chair.
Pei Xi was taken aback. She had been drawing girls all night, and this was the first boy she had seen.
The boy looked refined and had ordinary features. He was also a little shy, and his eyes were somewhat evasive, which reminded her of her deskmate, Li Yiming.
"Hello." Pei Xi smiled and pointed to the sign next to her. "Buy two items and you'll receive a free cartoon portrait drawing."
The boy nodded, his face visibly flushed. After a few seconds, he stammered, "I lost a game of Truth or Dare with my friends, and they asked me to add you as a friend. Could you... could you accept?"
