Just as Pei Zhi had predicted, it really did rain that night.
The rain continued until the next morning, and by the time Pei Xi went out, the rain had stopped.
Autumn has arrived in Yulin City. With each autumn rain comes a chill, and the air is filled with the unique scent of rain, carrying a cool and refreshing atmosphere.
Pei Xi carefully carried the lunchbox in her hand, avoiding puddles on the road.
She planned to visit Jiang Cheng at his home, bringing him some freshly made bone broth from Li Ma's cooking.
Last night, she had already informed Jiang Cheng in advance via WeChat.
Fearing the bone broth would spill, Pei Xi hailed a taxi, but the car couldn't enter the alley and had to stop on the side of the road.
After getting out of the car, Pei Xi saw a person standing by the roadside.
He was wearing a black windbreaker, his hands in his pockets, the zipper zipped up, his chin buried in the collar, revealing only his sharp eyebrows and straight nose.
With his black hair and black clothes, his face appeared even whiter.
Upon seeing Pei Xi, his normally dark and calm eyes suddenly lit up for a moment, and he strode towards her.
Pei Xi didn't expect Jiang Cheng to come out and wait for her. When Jiang Cheng got closer, she saw that the tip of his nose was already a little red from the wind.
I don't know how long I stood by the roadside.
“I know the way, you don’t need to come out to meet me,” Pei Xi said, looking at him.
Jiang Cheng paused for a moment, then said in a low voice, "It's okay, it's boring to stay indoors anyway."
Pei Xi nodded upon hearing this, "That's true, we can't always stay indoors, we should move around more."
Jiang Cheng gave a low "hmm".
The two walked side by side along the main road toward the alley entrance. A car was coming towards them, and Pei Xi felt his arm tighten.
The next second, Jiang Cheng was pulled to the inside of the road, and he switched places with her.
She went inside, and Jiang Cheng went outside.
The whole process was very quick; the force on the arm was released in an instant, and Pei Xi didn't even have time to react.
"I'm not stupid. I'll dodge if a car comes." She looked up at Jiang Cheng's profile and smiled gently.
Jiang Cheng kept his hands in his pockets, his eyes fixed on the road ahead, and hummed in agreement.
His posture suggested that although he knew Pei Xi would not be in danger, he still wanted her to walk inside.
One thing at a time.
Pei Xi looked at his "cool" appearance, tilted her head to glance at him, and said with a smile, "But thank you anyway."
She didn't tie her hair in a ponytail today; it was half down, and Jiang Cheng could see out of the corner of his eye that her hair slid smoothly down her shoulders, glistening with a sheen.
"You're welcome." He tightened his grip on his hand in his pocket.
Moving her to the inside of the road was an unconscious action; he didn't even realize it until his arm was already outstretched.
The two walked side by side into the alley. Because of the rain, the already uneven road surface was covered with water, with many puddles of different sizes.
The alley was narrow, and the two carefully avoided the puddles. Suddenly, the buzzing of a motorcycle came from behind them. Pei Xi subconsciously looked over, but the motorcycle had already sped up, splashing mud and water everywhere.
Pei Xi gasped softly, and Jiang Cheng had already put his arm around her shoulder, shielding her from view.
The motorcycle sped past Jiang Cheng, splashing water from the puddle up to a height of about half a person.
Pei Xi could even hear the sound of most of the muddy water falling onto Jiang Cheng's clothes.
She quickly went to check and found that Jiang Cheng's back was indeed covered in mud and water, speckled and filthy.
Pei Xi frowned instantly. "What kind of person is this? This is so rude!"
He turned to look again, but the motorcycle was long gone, and he couldn't find anyone to settle the score with.
Jiang Cheng shook his head nonchalantly, looked her up and down twice, and said softly, "It's okay, as long as you're not dirty."
Pei Xi was startled, looked up and met Jiang Ke's serious gaze, and his heart involuntarily trembled.
She was indeed not splashed with a single drop of mud.
He was tall with broad shoulders, and when he leaned over, he completely covered her.
Pei Xi felt a heat creep up her ears involuntarily. She tugged at Jiang Cheng's sleeve, lowered her eyes, and whispered, "...Go back and change your clothes quickly, let's go."
The two quickly arrived at Jiang Cheng's house.
This was Pei Xi's third time here, and she was surprised to find that there was a grape trellis in Jiang Cheng's yard, with some grapes growing on it.
Because of the rain, he hung the washed clothes under the eaves of the inner room to dry; they seemed to be the same few pieces as before.
Pei Xi noticed that Jiang Cheng had very few clothes, and the colors were all unoriginal black, white, and gray.
This was in stark contrast to Pei Zhi's overflowing wardrobe.
Jiang Cheng opened the door to the inner room, and Pei Xi walked in. The room was still very clean and tidy. She couldn't quite imagine how Jiang Cheng had managed to keep it clean while he was injured.
"I'm going in to change my clothes." Jiang Cheng looked at Pei Xi and pointed towards the bedroom.
"Okay, go ahead." Pei Xi nodded.
Jiang Cheng nodded and was about to walk towards the bedroom when he suddenly turned around and walked up to Pei Xi.
“Pei Xi, reach out your hand,” he said softly.
Pei Xi was startled, and subconsciously opened his eyes, but still obediently stretched out his hand.
The next second, something warm landed in my palm.
Pei Xi lowered his head, his fingers tightening slightly.
It's a can of Want Want milk, hot.
